2006 NC Med Schools Acceptance/Rejection Thread part 01

anybody that goes to UNC undergrad and interviewed there:

Just wondering on Student Central (http://www.unc.edu/student/), if you click on about the 6th category down, "Student Personal Information".. what does it say? I switched the "undergrad/grad" to "Medical School" and it gives me a readout instead of the message "You are not active in the Type of Student indicated.Choose another." (like if you chose law/ dentist or Medical School used to give this output). I wonder if this is a result of interviewing or sign of something else. I doubt it though because it doesn't have "initial admissions date" like the undergrad section... but maybe something to play around with.

Interesting. I am not a UNC student, but it will be interesting to see what you find out.

Did anyone hear from their UNC AdCom interviewer tonight? Or did they not meet? I wonder when their next meeting is?
 
hmm... talked to some other unc undergrads applying and the student central thing is general effect. Just like Mondays, tt's going to be a long holiday :laugh:

Tomorrow is a Wake day right? I can't remember if they said that we find out on 12/14 or if the admissions committee meets on 12/14. Anyone? They send everything via email right?

Congrats to all you guys who keep getting interviews at UNC. I'm glad to see they're still moving. As I've said before, please let me know if I can be any help. I interviewed with Dr. Caplow and Dean Hoole and I'm more than willing to share my experiences.

It's Jan 11 for the later interviewers like me that the file will be reviewed.

It should be through e-mail with a snail mail letter saying the exact thing.

Btw, I had Dr. Caplow also, and he has been my favorite interviewer so far in the process. Great guy.

Tomorrow is a Wake day. The admissions committee will meet at 5 PM. The decisions will be entered into the computer and an email will go out on either Friday or Monday. Someone in the admissions office told me this, so unfortunately it is true, and we can not expect an answer before Friday! Good luck!

None for me yet, but you can believe that I keep checking my email expecting some any time now...
 
Ok, for anyone interested in wake. I just called their admissions office, and she said that the committee met last night (15th), but the decisions hadnt been entered into the system yet. She then said it usually takes about a week for the decisions to be entered into the system. So it looks like it'll be late next week till we hear anything. this suckssssssss

AHH, come on, another week will kill me. I think we will hear today, regardless of what they told you on the phone just now. That is what I am hoping for, anyway. Good luck, kapaduch.
 
I sent my apps kind of late cause funds for apps were a little low at the time and all I've heard from so far is my state school (UCONN)..Should I be worried or anyone know what the status is for applicants at UPENN, Tufts, Brown, and Drexel? This sucks

Just so you guys know, in the October batch of acceptances/waitlists only the ones who were accepted got e-mails; those of us (like me) who got waitlisted got no e-mail and had to wait for a letter. If this wasn't the case for everyone, I know it was at least the case for most people. Good luck, guys 🙂

Trinity '00, have worked and been in grad school since. I had a younger brother in your class, not a pre-med, though, an art history major

Hey guys, I got an email for the waitlist here, the friday after the wed. adcom meeting...so don't get too excited over an email!!! Anyway good luck...I work at WFU med school in a research lab and am only a short walk from the admissions office...do you guys want me to do some undercover recon work? 😉

Undercover recon work sounds like a great idea...
 
Anyone else interview with Dr. Hodson while at ECU? This guy is worse than Ben Stein. It was like pulling teeth to get him to ask a relevant question. To combat the awkward stares he gave me in between talking, I tried to keep the conversation going by asking him questions. That didnt go so well either. He started every sentence with "well, I dont know......." Man, that was by far my weirdest interview ever. I have no idea how he can distinguish a good interview from a bad one.

Haha, I had Dr. Hodson...he was like Ben Stein in Ferris Beuller, but I kind of liked him for some reason...my goal in the interview was to make him crack a smile, and I finally got it to work
 
He showed a little emotion during my interview and even laughed at times. It was just hard because I have had 5 different interviews at 3 different schools in the last 3 weeks, and he was the only one that was not conversational. It was just...........awkward.
 
So noone heard from Wake today? I guess we probably won't hear after 6PM on a Friday? Oh well, it will be a long weekend.
 
Like a few people already said:

THey met on Wed. and are supposed to let you know on Friday. Translation= You will not find out Fri. and probably not until Wed.

Medical school admissions is a weird thing and if they tell you one thing, a lot of times you can expect the opposite.

I hope we hear from them today and I'm so tempted to call and check.
It's getting pretty tough to stay relaxed but I try.
 
I banned myself from this thread but I just wanted to say what the heck is going on with UNC. Looks like they have only had one meeting (Nov 7th) and havent accepted anyone since then. Have the people who interviewed around October 4th (Registered User) heard anything, even a DND letter? Its been 3 +months for you guys, well over 6-8 weeks. Well good luck to everyone. If they only meet on Mondays then today is the last possible chance for a meeting this yr.

Is there any disadvantage to interviewing later at a non-rolling school? I think the week of Feb. 13 is the last week of interviewing at Duke and I'm going the 14th, so I was just curious.

I haven't heard, and I interviewed on Oct. 11th...not as worried now that I've gotten that first acceptance though 😀

Well, that sucks that you got waitlisted. At least they tend to take a lot of people off the waitlist, from what I hear, so its far from a rejection.

Hey guys, just got accepted to Wake after being waitlisted at last adcom...they don't accept more than 160 at any given moment so don't worry if you got waitlisted and want to go...just show some interest...anyway I'm not sending in my deposit so hopefully one of you guys will get my spot...good luck :luck:
