anyone accepted to SLU receive a financial aid package yet? I was told they are "trying" to get them out by May 15. Is this prolonging anyone else's decisions, cuz its def making mine more difficult

This is *definitely* prolonging my decision... I just called and was told like you that they are "trying" to get them out, but the person did mention that the award letters would be send by email... which is a little better than snail mail, I guess. Wish SLU wasn't so expensive!!!

I'm pretty sure we're just out of luck. I just find it frustrating because SLU starts so much earlier than other schools (white coat ceremony last year was on July 31st)... and I have a husband and two cats to move halfway across the country. I'd really like to know what's going on financially so that I can start planning for everything else that goes along with med school matriculation. [Rant over]

$40k in tuition? geez....its a huge concern for me right now as i don't know if its worth the extra $26k a year in tuition to go to SLU or my state school so i may withdraw as well

did anyone else receive the "Alternate List Update" email today? in case youre wondering, it doesnt tell u anything new. it just reiterates that: 1) you are indeed are on the WL but they are not going to disclose your 'rank', 2) it is rolling admissions based on availability up until early August, and 3) reminder to update your grades, activities, contact info, etc...

like i said, same ol shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii......

yup, i got that - i almost had a heart attack, thought i was accepted or something, but then realized that the subject of the email probably would have been congratulations or something. oh well, maybe they're just warming up for the coming weeks!

I just got it. Why was that even necessary? It doesn't even tell you your position of the alternate list.

I'm going (unless by some miracle I happen to get into the other school that I'm waitlisted at, and I may still go to SLU at that).

But what's up with the financial aid packages?!!!!! 😕 😕 I got my materials in before they even sent out the email requesting tax forms and such. I'm leaving the country in two weeks and I won't be back for a month! I don't want to leave my poor hubby to worry about all the financial stuff while I'm gone. I need to get it figured out before I leave.

I spoke with the financial aid office last week, just before they sent out the email saying that the packages would be arriving soon. She implied that everything's pretty much ready, they were just hesitant to send out the packages on Firday because they didn't want us to have to wait the whole weekend to have our questions answered. Well, Monday's here and....NADA! While I do believe that SLU is a quality school I have been frustrated to pieces by the entire application process. Their communications have been frustartingly sparse.Can you tell I'm frustrated?

seriously....i hate these useless correspondences from the adcoms. they dont do anything except make you pop a sweat. if theyre gonna go through all that trouble and send me an email and potentially induce a heart attack, at least tell me something interesting.....

on the flipside, however, at least SLU central is livening up a little bit. are ppl in STL really this boring??? lol

FYI, I called the financial aid office today and they said the packages would be sent out either today or by the end of the week. So after I proceeded to inform her that I needed to make a decision between two schools by TODAY, she gave me the information over the phone. I don't know if they normally do this, but it might be worth a shot.

That's a good point actually. How do they rank the waitlist...by the date of the interview or by credentials?

I thought that but then they say that they can't reveal your position on the waitlist. Ugh....this entire thing is so vague. I am just gonna sit back and wait. I mean, they have to give us an answer sometime.

To all those on the WL at SLU I was in the same position last year. I ended up getting an acceptance in early June. Here's the lowdown: SLU has a ranked list but they won't tell you what your rank is. One of my classmates got accepted a couple days before the white coat ceremony. So basically the only way you can be sure you didn't get in is if classes start and they haven't contacted you.

HA HA HA, oh, brother. It's usually from Nigeria though. My father actually once fell for one of those Nigerian scams, but that was way back in the day, before internet. They used to do it with faxes.
