2006 SLU Central

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I imagine the only "dress code" may be for when you're in the clinic or possibly when you're in the anatomy lab. I can't imagine them having a dress code for the classroom. I fully intend to wear my Homer Simpson shirts to class. =P

do they dress up at LLU?

No, when I was at LLU people were wearing whatever.

Is anyone who is going to SLU looking for a roommate? I know they have an online database, but I don't know how to get into it...or if anyone even uses it.

I'm looking to live in the Central West End probably in the Del Coronado if anyone is interested.

I'm probably gona look to live by myself initially at least. Housing ought to be much cheaper in St. Louis than here in West LA. =P

any waitlist movement here yet? :luck:

The only movement that I experienced today was bowel movement. (Rimshot)

I'll be here all night.

Did you guys on the waitlist receive an Alternate List Update e-mail today?
Bascally it had no new information just a reminder to keep your conact info updated and to send in any updates to your app.

no, but I got what sounds like the same email on 5/15

Rayhan, you are hysterical... If we end up in the same class, how the heck am I going to keep from laughing and pissing in my pants during lecture?

Heh, I hope to have you guys as classmates. You guys seem quite easy going and would enjoy a bizarre/obscene/politically incorrect sense of humor. =P

I hope SLU doesn't care that I'm an alcoholic, fun-loving social guy. =)

Do you think they're too conservative in that sense? =) I'll still get all my work done.

Alcohol and I don't really get along (allergy) but I still drink it anyway, heh. I hope we can find people at SLU who have a great appreciation for the finer things in life... like Dave Chappelle, Family Guy, The Big Lebowski, the movie "Waiting," Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle... etc.

BTW, did you know that there is both a Jack in the Box AND White Castle within a mile of the school?? I haven't had White Castle regularly since I lived in Indiana!!

Are you kidding me? "Too potty mouth?!" There's no such thing! Southpark has some great lines! One of my favorite was "What's the matter baby, got a little sand in your vagina?" I also love the episode where Cartman becomes a christian band member and he starts singing "Jesus, I wanna get on my knees are start pleasing you! I wanna feel your salvation all over my face!"

I just haven't seen nearly as much southpark as I have simpsons and family guy. (Even though I have every season of south park on dvd.)

lol all three cartoons are pretty funny and i especially love family guy (used to be my favorite). but i gotta say southpark really takes the cake these days. it used to be a lot of plain toilet humor like family guy and simpsons (i still enjoy toilet humor of course). but stone and parker have gotten so damn creative since their earlier years. theyve really mastered their unique style of integrating current political topics into the unbelievable escapades of those naive little kids. like that terri schiavo episode where kenny is kept alive on a feeding tube. or the episode where they parody family guy and the protests against cartoon drawings of the "prophet" mohammad. the ending punchline for those episodes are absolutely brilliant. i guess you jus have to watch them to appreciate what im talkin about.....

ohyah and the animation in southpark got better too. little subtle things, like a greater variety of facial expressions and static postures. makes that fatboy cartman seem all that much funnier lol

Heh, I've seen all of those episodes. I love the Muhammed one too!

Hey I dont mean to ruin the cartoon fun... bump

Also I heard from my premed advisor that the majority of waitlist movement at SLU is in July. Can anyone verfiy? Has anyone heard of actual waitlist movement yet?

Being in St. Louis again reminds me of the midwest I grew up in. The feel of the roads and the freeways and stuff is like Indiana, so midwest. =P

I haven't heard that but that doesn't mean it isn't the case. I don't know of anyone being pulled off the waitlist.

Sadly, that's probably the case. I don't know what leads people to think that SLU waitlists have alot of movement. does it? I hope so. Because this is me right now.... 🙁 🙁 🙁

yeah, it figures the waitlists I'm on wouldn't have any movement while it seems every other school does! 😡 🙁 🙁 🙁

hey guys, i've been lurking around this thread for a while and decided to finally register for the forums so I could tell you guys I just withdrew my acceptance from SLU, best of luck and hope you guys still on the waitlist hear something soon!!

i'm surprised there isn't much waitlist movement. they accept more than twice the number of available spots.

I wonder if everyone who interviewed at SLU received a post-interview decision as of now. If there are no more post-interview decisions to be sent out, the waitlist should move soon, correct?

I called SLU yesterday. Is it just me or they got the same two people answering phones? I feel bad calling them on a bi-weekly basis, but dang if I ain't interested. Anyways, they have had accepted people from the list. They call you first and then if they can't reach you, then they send an e-mail. There have been people rejected outright with no alternate list lingering. They also won't confirm which month usually get most waitlist movement because it varies. And no, they won't tell you your position on the waitlist and will not play "marco polo" to let you guess your position which was crippilingly disappointing.

I think SLU admissions staff should work for CIA or something since their motto seems to be "Deny, deny....blah blah blah classified information....blah...e-mail....blah blah get bent loser...blah".

Will they at least tell you how favorable it looks that you might get pulled off the waitlist?

jeeze... I didn't know our status was classified! ack! Just put us out of our misery! 🙁

I tried that. They said no. Hence, I suggested a "guessing my position" vis a vis Marco Polo game. And they refused this extremely entertaining offer. The called ended with me crying, screaming and soiling myself.

There hasn't been much waitlist movement from ANY school, from what I've been seeing. Maybe it's a huge CONSPIRACY, and a buttload of movement will suddenly occur in the last week of July or something. 😛

Just curious...............what are your plans for next year barring an acceptance?

i need to get off this waitlist bad...what do they want, blood? i'll give it to them.

I'll give them an arm (granted I dont need it to do medicine).
Is it possible to get a role call of everyone on the waitlist?

I'll start. 32, 3.2, 3.4.

Good luck to everyone. I hope we all get some serious movement soon.

Interviewed 03/20, waitlisted 04/19

Declining my acceptance to SLU on Monday as I just got off the deferred list at Ohio State this past week. Im sure one of you waitlisters will be getting some good news sometime next week.

Hi guys
Don't worry about the waitlist as of yet. I too was waitlisted but I got accepted last year on July 1. I had my interview on the 3rd week of Jan. and the waitlist letter came around Feb. I remember that even during orientation week people were leaving for other schools and they were still taking people off the waitlist. Last year I think they stop interviews around early april. This year they had interviews during our last week of class in May! Also remember that our class size has jumped from 156 to about 175 this year, bigger the class the bigger the waitlist.

If anyone wants to contact me more about SLU, you are welcomed to. You should see me during your first week of Orientation on Friday, when the various clubs introduce themselves to you. I am President or Co-president of the Surgery club, the AIMS club, and PNHP.
Hope to see you there. 🙂

Thank you very much for your insight!! I kept hearing that SLU's waitlist indeed moves quite a bit, but its good to know that though it's not moving, it probably will (fingers crossed) in the near future.

Its funny that both my student host (awesome guy) and his girlfriend had gotten off the waitlist...but now that I'm on it, I keep having a bad feeling that its not going to move. Thanks again for keeping our spirits up (and I'm sure others on the waitlist would agree)!!

Thanks Hawdock for declining your acceptance...it'll be a great help to one of us!! 🙂

yeah, i know what you guys mean - as if, even when the waitlist moves a lot, it still feels like i'll be the only one without an acceptance. hopefully i'll get in, and i can join that surgery club 🙂

We'll be glad to have you. During one our suture workshops you'll meet Dr. Smith, he is the Phase I director and an incredible nice guy. He will be the actually teacher of the suture workshop and you get to practice on fake skin. Year one was tough but it was also a blast. 🙂

Is there a rad onc club? =D

There's no "dress code," right? I don't think I could stand going to class in a nice shirt and pants.

There is a radiology club, and there is no dress code for class. Except maybe during the end of the year when you do electives for one day of the week, where you shadow Doctors. I did the Laproscopic elective where my dress code was wearing scrubs every wednesday morning. Oh and during the anatomy you can wear scrubs or a really dirty t-shirt for Cadaver lab.

I 😍 suturing! We practiced on pig's feet with some interesting lacerations at one of our pre-med AMSA meetings. It was awesome! 👍

How much are computers utilized at SLU? Do I need a lap top? How fancy does it need to be? I have a 5 year old Gateway that will cost $100 to get fixed. I'm trying to figure out whether I should fix it or buy a new computer.
