2006 SLU Central

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We don't use Computer's as much as other schools like University of Maryland. I remember when I interviewed there everybody had a labtop. At SLU only a few people had laptops, maybe like 5 people. Most people just take notes using the syllabus. I was thinking of buying a laptop for SLU but after the first week I realized that I didn't need it. Totally different for law students, a laptop is a must for them regardless of the school.

Just to give another POV...I just finished first year at SLU and my laptop was a must have for me. I loved having it nearby when I studied to look stuff up. In the genetics small groups it was great for getting an actual picture of a disorder (and looking smart for the moderator at the same time). In pathology I loved not having to walk from station to station, and finishing the labs in half the time as those who didn't do them online. Maybe it is just my learning style, but having all the powerpoint presentations and my notes with me 24-7 was a great advantage ESPECIALLY FOR PATHOLOGY where everything is visual. Out of my close friends in the class, about 80% had a laptop. I never took notes on it during lecture since the syllabus was provided, but everywhere else it was a lifesaver. PM me if you have questions, or want insider advice on first year classes...

anybody hear from SLU lately or call them? 😕

I am wondering if there might be some post-6/15 WL movement, or rather, hoping for some post-6/15 WL movement. :luck:

My Life is stained by sin and selfishness. I am obsessesed with myself and getting into medical school. It is all I think about. Please forgive me. Please.

Don't worry that's all I thought about before I got in. Now I just think about getting into a good residency. Everything always comes full circle 😛

My friend emailed them but they don't really tell you anything. It is the standard "You will be notified when a decision has been reached."

👎 I hate that! Throw us a frickin' bone here! A lot of schools will tell waitlisters SOMETHING about what kind of chance they have! 🙁

I just got a pad by Forest Park in the Central West End. Party's at my place! =D

Yeah I too only heard I was accepted after the decision was made. Oh well it's the SLU way.

I wish I had more hands, so I can give those titties four thumbs down!

No news is good news, right?

Hey guys I just wanted to post what I know about the wait list at slu. I'll be a first year this year and my boyfriend will be a 2nd year. He was waitlisted last year. He got accepted just a couple days before orientation week started. Like the very very end of July. So don't worry, a lot of people get accepted in July!
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info.

I hereby proclaim July to be the month to get my hopes up.

I'm a rising MS3 at SLU (just survived Step 1) and decided to give you guys some more hope....

Remember that the class size for next year is larger than normal... 175 compared to 150. So that's 25 more of you that will get in.

SLU's waitlist in general tends to be a late moving one, simply because of the trickle down effect. Lots of people are holding spots at SLU, hoping to get into another school off their waitlist, that's movement is dependent on someone at that school getting into their top choice school off it's waitlist.

I know of someone in every class that was accepted as little as 2 days before orientation. I know that seems crazy, and like it'd be hell to do - but hey, you're in medical school.

SLU is a great school, in my opinion, and I can't imagine myself having gone to any of my other acceptances... The curriculum both years was perfect for my learning style, I've had nothing (and heard nothing from others) but positive experiences with all the faculty, I'm looking forward to great clinical experiences in the upcoming two years (at a school that is highly regarded for producing great clinicians), but above all else, I would be lost without my awesome fellow students/friends. No matter where you go, I think you will all find that your friends are the most important factor in your sanity and happiness...

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Best of Luck.

Hey guys. I withdrew from SLU today. Good Luck!

How much does it snow in St. Louis during the winter, just wondering. Is it more than Indiana?

Not much. I have no idea how much it snows in relation to Indiana, I'm not from St. Louis or the midwest, but when I visited, they told me that last year it only snowed 3 or 4 days of the year!!! I talked to a lady on the plane and she told me the weather in st. louis isn't bad at all. Although it's cold during the winter, it stays sunny most of the time. So it won't be as grey as the east coast. They have four seasons as well. Again, this is all hearsay.

Well if Indiana is like Toronto or Detroit, then no it barely snows here. Like the previous post stated it only snowed for very briefly in St. Louis. Maybe 2 or 3 times and the snow usually melted within the week. But it does get cold, just bring your winter jacket from Indiana and you'll be fine.

Heh, "bring your winter jacket from Indiana," I've been in LA for like the last 8 years. I'm gonna need to get a new one!

Hey All,
I'm attending SLU this fall and just got an apartment at Park Forest yesterday. Where are the rest of you living?

Park Forest or Forest Park? I just recently got an apt just to the north of Forest Park. It's in the "Central West End" area. Who here likes Family Guy and the Chappelle Show?!

I'm living at Park Forest apartments (about 20 min from school...not in the CWE). But anyhow, Family Guy is the BEST.

What direction is the Park Forest apartment from the school? Which street?

I'm living in the Park Forest apartments too. The apartments are SW of the school off of River Des Peres.

hey guys! I got into my first choice UC Davis... so I will be withdrawing tomorrow. I really hope that one of you gets my spot, and please be the best doctor you can be. You guys have been awesome and I very informative.. Saint Louis is a great school and I would go there in a heartbeat if all of my fanily and friends weren't here in California. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Good luck!!!

It's a really nice apartment complex, but its a little far. You take I-44 West and go about 6 or 7 miles, and then exit Shrewsbury. Supposedly, theres a number of SLU med students living there.

Congrats on the Davis acceptance. Are you still waiting for LLU or are you for sure going to Davis? Good luck to you too.

Hell yeah, oh Keira!!! 😍 😍 😍 Heaven is not so fine as you! 😀 I'm going to see that movie, even though I think the films suck. I'm just there to admire Ms. Knightly.

Oh, and congrats to you, Firebirdguy! I wish I could get into my first choice too. :-(

I noticed there are a lot of people from California going to SLU no?

SLU is a very California friendly school.

I wanted to resist doing this but....Captain Obvious strikes again. :meanie:

What about AZ??? It's very close to CA??? 😀 Come on! Let me in SLU! 😳

I am a 2nd year and I live in Park Forest Apartments. If anybody is clueless about where to live in St. Louis, it is a good place to start. The management is great, the location is safe and beautiful, and it is only about 15-20 minutes away from school (the 44 is the way to go!) The downside is that is a bit pricier, but with the patchiness of St. Louis neighborhoods, it is definitely the way to go if you are unfamiliar with the area. A lot of people live there for the first year while they find a cheaper place in a safe neighborhood. I am moving out of there next week, and am glad we lived there for the first year while we got situated.

NY want attention too.

It's weird. No one is hearing anything.

communication has been lacking, but at least there's this...i don't know what i'd do without the sdn gravevine. where else would i have found out that the wayne state waitlist is just a list of people waiting for rejections.
