Yeah, Tyrone Biggums.

I liked the parody of trading spouses. "GGGGGG-Get out".

One Month until the White Coat Ceremony and still no news? Even the "got off a waitlist" thread is bare of SLU ppl. I figured at least SOMEBODY would have heard something.

I know. I keep thinking SIU is SLU on the miracle waitlist thread.

I called today and mums the word. Where is this whale of a waitlist movement that SLU experiences every year?

I need closure and I need to find a place in DC, otherwise I just might live out of a car taking roadie showers at Georgetown.

For white coat I would go with slacks, a nice shirt, and a tie. It is a pretty formal event held in a cathedral. My friend wore just some pants and a shirt last year and he felt super awkward.

what do girls wear to the white coat ceremony? did they wear dresses last year or business suit type clothes?

Here is a picture of last year's white coat ceremony. I am not in this picture but in it you can see what the guys wore and in the background you can see what the girls wore.

Girls typically wear either a skirt or pants with dress type shirt (button down shirt, sweater type short sleve, blousy tank, etc). There really isn't a dress code, but my advice is to simply look "professional" (ie wear something you would wear if you were shadowing a physician). That's really all you need to do to blend right in and look nice for your parentals pictures.

As far as waitlist movement goes, remember that just because SDNers are getting moved off the waitlist doesn't mean movement isn't happening. SDN isn't representative of the entire population of applicants. Just keep hoping and praying....

SIU = Southern Illinois....and while it's possible that the ppl moving on the waitlist are all non-SDNers....I mean seriously what's the chance of that?

Thanks for posting the picture, that helps a lot!

I agree - IMO the chances are slim to none

I bid my eternal soul.

Disclaimer: Soul may not be exchanged for monetary compenation.

headed off to uchicago. wanted to stay in st. louis b/c i went to college there and i liked it. but i cant turn down chicago

I called SLU this morning and they told me the class is full. What the hell is going on over there? My desire to kick myself in the nut grows.

As I understood things, all med school classes were supposed to be filled months ago (not quite sure on the date) but spots will still open up as people get pulled off waitlists and relinquish there acceptances.

just to let you guys know, a good friend of my mine got pulled off the waitlist today so there's still hope. gl guys.

Thanks so much for validation. I was beginning to think that SLU has had no waitlist movement because no one on SDN reported it.

Congrats to your friend and tell him to join SDN.

Question: Did your friend do anything special to get off the waitlist?...and in "special" I mean things like constantly sending emails and updates or calling and basically actively pursuing the school. I'm wondering if these efforts make much of a difference or if your spot on the list is pretty much set in stone. I've heard that this sort of thing helps-wondering if anyone's experienced it or heard the same...

Too late. I think I got your spot!

That's right, the first OFFICIAL, first-hand confirmation of SLU waitlist movement on SDN.

I got the call this afternoon and will definately be attending.

I'll see all you guys August 6. Just look for the really happy guy in the white coat.

To those still on the waitlist, keep hope alive. This morning I had decided to end my quest for the golden MD. A few hours changed everything.

Congrats. See you in a couple of weeks.

hahahaahahaha WELL DONE! i can only imagine how happy you are right now, especially since the slu waitlist looked hopeless! (i mean it still kinda does, but at least SOMEONE who really wants it is getting in)

congrats!!! that's so great!!!! glad to FINALLY hear about SLU WL movement on SDN!!! I hope some more of us SDNers are next! Good luck ALL!!!!!! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Well...I now feel hopeful and hopeless at the same time (not sure about the ratio of each feeling)....before I just felt more hopeless, so this is better I guess.

Anyhow, congrats on your acceptance to SLU donair!! Here's hoping that they have more seats left before classes start.

We are stoked to have you guys coming out. I am on the orientation committee and am helping with white coat and we are excited for you guys. The first week (orientation) is sweet! If anybody is here in STL and is bored waiting for classes to start we should organize a dinner or something chat about the school. A group of us first years get together weekly to watch movies/TV shows ect so you could def. come along if you wanted. PM with any questions and good luck!

yes, he actively pursued the school with quite a few update letters - not sure about calling though.

Congrats dude. 👍

Finally, some SDN-esque validation of waitlist movement.

I know what you mean...its like a classic good news, bad news scenerio.

Good News: List has movement.
Bad News: Apparently my name has yet to come up.

bump

it's another week...which means... time for some more SLU WL movement!!! Come on WL!!!! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: guys! 😀

Do they send out acceptances once a week?

At this point, I am throwing in my towel, pants, undergarments and any other articles of clothing that will indicate defeat. There's approximately a little over 3 weeks left and a little voice inside me is saying it's not gonna happen (for me).

:luck: and much respect to anyone hanging on.

Here's hopin!!! It's only Monday guys. Let's keep the faith, like you said Rayhan...about 3 more weeks left. That 's 21 days, not counting those weekends which I'm not crazy about these days (unless adcoms decide to meet on weekends).

Hey, I have a question about this "float trip on the Meramec River" event on the Saturday of orientation week. Is this like a whitewater rafting trip where we get life jackets and go rafting down a river, or is this a boat ride where we sit on a boat from 8am to 6pm? =P

Although I did not attend this event last year (I was still moving into my new apartment). I believe that the float trip was just that, you float on the river in some dingy with your future classmates. Your not on the Titanic going "I'm King of the World" or prereading for anatomy by drawing nude photos of your classmates. 😛

It is just like my previous post.

Heh, wow, you're right! That looks lame as hell! When I think rafting I imagine whitewater rafting like in Yosemite or something. Something like this http://www.oars.com/htdocs/images/california/MFAmerican1.jpg

I think I'll be skipping the "rafting" trip then. =P

I think the point is to spend some time with your future classmates so that you can get to know them. It's not meant to be an extreme white-knuckle rafting experience. It would be hard to socialize when you are trying not to drown.

I will definitely be attending most of the other events during orientation week. I just don't want to drift down a lazy river while getting sunburnt to a crisp. =P

Just so you know, it is assumed that large amounts of alcohol are consumed during most float trips. I dont know if the SLU one restricts alcohol, but I've been on a couple of them before and everyone get pretty buzzed. Usually, each person is allowed to bring a 6 pack on the raft with them.

I would think the experience would be pretty boring though if it was with stragers and no booze.

Oh goodie, lets get drunk and fall off the dinky and drown in 3 feet of water.

Not to put a downer on things, but last week, 5 kids (teenagers included) drowned in the Meramac, in West St. Louis County. It's not a huge, crazy river but sometimes even seemingly calm waters are treacherous...

I for one will not be attending - not interested in alcohol, and would rather spend my last non-student sunny days with my hubby and son. I will be at quite a few of the other events though.

The hours of the river trip are I think from 8am to 6pm...that's way too much time to be out in the sweltering heat...air conditioning? yes please! I'll be spending most of that day indoors! New question...for those who are in St. Louis, how's everything going over there? I hear that the power's been out for quite some time all over the city--are things okay?

I, too, have read articles about the horrible storm going through there right now. The power had better be back by next week or I'm gonna go crazy! The power was already out at my home here in CA for for 36 hours this past weekend, and it was 107 outside! I swear, this is the hottest summer I've ever experienced!

The power's coming back up, it's on for the most part in the Central West End for those of you who will be living near there. There are still power lines down in some places (a friend in Maplewood isn't allowed to leave her street b/c of live wires tonight), and now it's a lot of tree damage and branches to be cleaned up. Should be looking pretty good by next week.
