The East Side (which is where the airport is located) really doesn't have anything going on except for the airport itself. I haven't spent much time over there, but it doesn't seem like a really happening place.

What areas/cities on the west side would be good to look at?

The Fan if you want to live around bars and other VCU students (mainly undergrad) - the VCU shuttles go there. Or you can also live in Church Hill which is on the other side of the med school. Live in Shockoe Bottom or Shockoe Slip if you want to live within walking distance to the med school. If I go to VCU, I'll probably live in the Fan - it would be my top choice.
What is your opinion of Trolley Square Apts on Franklin Street across the street from the Jefferson Hotel. I was told that a lot of Medical Students live there. What is your impression?

Im living in trolley square right now, and Im less than thrilled. I feel as though they have alot of problems with maintanance. Ive have plumbing problems (had a toilet back up right before an exam) and my AC hasnt worked in a couple of days. The proximity to MCV is great, and I feel relativley safe.

Oh my God, inverted, your little girl is so adorable! 😍

How are all my fellow VCU hopefuls doing? Just thought I'd drop by and say hi. May 15th will come by soon and hopefully you'll all hear some good news. 🙂

Any idea if there will be less/more waitlist movement than last year?

If you don't mind me asking, with utilities and a parking space how much do you pay per month? Do you live in a 1 or 2 bedroom unit? Are they generally in good condition, or a bit on the runned down side. Thanks for your help!

i dunno...but im sure their waitlist is much longer than previous yrs since they decided to interview a few hundred extra applicants. I wonder why exactly VCU doesnt let applicants know their spot on the waitlist?? ...they dont have to tell us our scores but just our relative position on the list...that would be nice anyways

I know they accidently decided to interview about 200 more people than last year. However, I thought they tried to correct this by rejecting more people at the March 15/21st? deadline. I figured they tried to keep the waitlist to the size it was last year by some 'extra' rejections.

"accidentally decided"? 😕

As for the 200 additional interviewees, it doesn't seem like they actually rejected all that many people after March 21st, but I guess only the school actually knows.

I did hear they rejected quite a few people in March to keep their waitlist about the same size as in years past. Dr. H seems to have a pretty good idea of how many to put on the waitlist (last year she waited 2 weeks to tell folks whether they would remain on the waitlist or not but enough people withdrew to allow all the 'on hold' people to remain on the waitlist).

😳 Apparently ShyRem knows as well.

So do you think that she tries to limit the list so theoretically if the same amount withdrew this year as did last year then everyone would get in? Wow, long run-on sentence. I beginning to wonder if I even make sense to myself there.

😀 this last post basically reads: May 15th cannot come soon enough...almost there....3 weeks!!

hmm...so is the plan to reach page 100 by May 15th?

Yep. We need to pick up the pace though. 🙂

When I went in for my interview, they said due to the new computerized system, they ended up offering more interviews than they traditionally do.

I don't think that they do this- obviously the last person on the waitlist has very little chance of getting in because the wait list needs to have more people than they anticipate accepting. Otherwise if they got all the way through the wait list and still had spots- they would need to call up some of the people that had been rejected. But this is all just speculation.

I think someone posted that Dr. H. is currently out of town- but when I e-mailed her she gave me more than sufficent information regarding where I was on the list. I think she will give you as much information as she can.

Just what I heard on the grapevine about the waitlist. I also recall hearing at my interview day that they try to keep a certain number on the waitlist but not so many that it gives false hope. She did say that they anticipate rejecting a larger number than usual due to the larger number of interviews. I also recall her saying they anticipated interviewing a larger number than usual due to the new system for scheduling.

As for how many are on the waitlist, I haven't heard squat. Apparently that's just as much a closely guarded secret as our position on the list and the Bush's Baked Beans recipe. (where's that dog to sell us information when we need him?)

ShyRem, do you think she meant rejecting post-interview before forming the alternate list or rejecting more waitlisters than usual in August?

Apparition, I think she meant rejecting more people before the final draft of the waitlist that was released on March 21st (whatever day people received status changes).

I thought they weren't supposed to tell us where we are on the list. Are you putting 2 and 2 together trying to figure out where you are or did she infact tell you your actual position? - Just curious

This troubles me bc I didnt get any information at all about where I stand....hahaha this can only mean one thing 😳

Visla, did you write Dr. H? When did you hear back?

She didn't tell me- "you are number X" but she did give me enough info to know what to expect.

just because she couldn't say definitly doesn't mean that it is bad- i wouldn't worry

Yeah, she's probably really careful at this point. You should e-mail her again after May 15th.

Anyone else currently in cardiac arrest after receiving an e-mail from Dr. H reminding people no longer interested in VCU to withdraw? I thought that the next status change e-mail would be acceptance!

Yup, my heart is STILL pounding. What a mean trick!

umm, yeah, that wasn't very nice, was it!! 🙁 the wait continues...

I almost spilled my drink all over my keyboard at work

Thanks for the warning! 😱

😀 sadly, I knew it couldnt be an acceptance...bc that would just be too easy

It's a standard email probably sent to all OOS applicants. I like it b/c people will be reminded to make a decision soon.

Yeah I agree...I think it was a great move.

I was wondering how she knows that many OOS people have been accepted to their state schools if they have not even withdrawn their VCU apps yet!?

Hopefully because a significant number of out-of-state alternates they just accepted didn't accept the offers, which is good 🙂

Oh okay. I just didn't know what you meant before. Sorry.

And I got that e-mail too. It didn't really affect me (no heart attack, no "skid marks"), because I was pretty sure it wasn't an acceptance or rejection. I think maybe they have a lot of OOS people still on the list; more than they expected. And, I don't think all that many will be withdrawing. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

If they didn't accept the offers and she knows that, why would they need to log into the web site? Doesn't the school already know if they didn't accept?

So that others still sitting on the waitlist who wouldn't attend would withdraw. So that they could fill the class faster with people who will attend.

I hope you are wrong, but I just gotta think it is a standard email that Dr. H sends each year. It's a reminder prolly that May 15th is coming up, and people should make a decision soon.

I think they tried to make the waitlist approximately the same size as it has been in years past.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed.

I don't think having too many people on the alternate list would be too much of a concern. If uninterested people kept refusing offers, though, without withdrawing prior to the acceptance, it would be annoying and would likely cause this mass e-mail.
