i just want you all to know that i've been reading this forum (altho i just signed up) and i have also been stressing about all of this stuff (i'm an out of state waitlister for VCU) and it's been wonderful to not feel alone about stuff. i know my family/friends want to help but sometimes they just don't get it. it's nice to be able to come on here and realize that i'm not alone with my craziness!!! so thanks guys for sharing my pain and being willing to chat about it. 🙂

Hi, all,

I was so surprised that I got an e-mail from VCU today. Yes, I'm IN!!! And this is my FIRST acceptance! I'm OOS and had interview back in late Jan. I didn't think my stat or interview was not that exceptional but I got extremely lucky to get in this early. I'm sorry that many of us are still waiting but just want to tell you that the waitlist IS MOVING! As you all know (from the interview invite experience), it's matter of time. Many of us will get in eventually. Please stay hopeful. You are almost there. Good luck!

VCU Class of 2010 (OMG!)

Thats the news I want to hear. way to go!!! CONGRATS!!

Where do you suggest looking for 2 bedroom apt/condo near the school?

well.. i think i will be looking in the fan district near to the vcu campus and then take the campus shuttle to the mcv campus, unless i find something better further down. It's hard to say, bc i was looking online today and I can tell you that one end of the street I would be afraid to walk into my apt alone at night but the other end of the same street would be fine. That's how it is sometimes in richmond. If you have specific street names of places that you find, i can help tell you about the neighborhood better. Close to Main St. or Cary St. is good, the vcu campus is around Cherry and Cary. There are some nice places too further down around 18th/19th st. But if you want to message me about any specifics ill help the best I can. Im not in Richmond now, but i grew up there and visit alot, and may be able to help.

I wrote to Dr. H and she is really helpful and honest. If you form your email asking if there is anything you can do to better your chances, or just explain that there is a program you were considering but that VCU is your unequivocal first choice and ask what advice she has. She'll tell you without being super specific but give you a good idea of what to do.

hey guys,

im also a waitlisted in-stater and have been checking the thread frantically in hopes of good news for fellow applicants. I was contemplating emailing/writing a letter to Dr. H regarding my status but then I was told a couple of days back that someone had gotten rejected right after they wrote to the adcomm (at vcu pharm school?).

does anyone think its a good idea to go ahead and write the letter/or email about how I stand cos I've been thinking about applying to a post-bac program if I didnt get in.

hope everyones holdin up alright.

So if you get into UCSD, UCD, or EVMS will you withdraw your OOS acceptance?? 😀 😀
To be honest with you, if I get in UCSD or UCD, I will probably withdraw from VCU. But I'm not sure about EVMS. I like both of the schools but am leaning towards VCU. I know there are so many SDNers whose first choice is VCU. Sometimes, I feel like I should give up my spot to those who are more eager to go to VCU. However, this is my only acceptance so far and I have no choice. I like VCU and Richmond area and know that I will have great education/experience at VCU. But CA schools are more desirable for my family. (I have two little kids who LOVE spending time with their aunties and grandparents.) I'm not sure about my chance at any CA schools. But I will post if anything happens. I would love to see everyone going to his/her first choice school.
BTW, how did you know that I am waiting for UCSD, UCD, or EVMS? Did I put a little advertisement somewhere here? Or are you stalking me?

Definitely stalking you!! 😎 No I think I saw it once on a Cali thread.

Noticed the thread was on the second page. Just bringing it back to the main page.

Keep hanging in there, all.

How long is it taking for Dr. H to respond to your emails regarding your general position on the waitlist (just curious)?

She replied to my e-mail in 1 business day.

I emailed earlier this week and haven't heard back. Not sure what that means since Tangent seems to have heard back right away. Hope it's not bad news.......

The higher up on the waitlist you are the faster Dr. H responds. If you haven't heard anything in awhile I would be concerned.

You have got to be kidding. I'm pretty sure you are, but I have this nagging pre-med paranoia in my mind that refuses to be silent.

same here... i'm currently telling the voices in my head to shut up haha.

She replied to mine in about one day as well. However, last year she took a week off in April right about now, so she may just be out of the office. Be patient. She'll respond.

We need a :hugs: icon.

lilmissangel got in today from the waitlist. It's moving...

(but #$%#$ I want to get in NOW!) Breathe... breathe... Ok. Patience again. Just remember - waitlist means WAIT. 😉

Good for her. She is in-state, right?

And I agree, the waiting just seems to go on and on. Everybody is hoping that they'll be called next, and worried they won't get in. We do need a hug icon. This waiting is freakin' traumatizing is what it is.

Wait...where did you hear that from? Sorry if I confused anyone but I wasnt on the waitlist, I got in a while ago (I actually deferred so I got in over a year ago).
I've been following this thread because I found it before I found the Class of 2010 in the allopathic thread forum.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of you and am hoping you'll all become my classmates in the fall....so I'll be checking back here frequently hoping for good news!!!

Sorry.. my bad. I saw you "got email" and just ASSumed....
Aw, not the first time I look like an idiot. Certainly won't be the last!

Congrats anyway, lilmiss!!

Yes, I was kidding. But I know that is what the nagging voices in your head were saying. But then again maybe they're right?

Hey everyone,
Long time lurker but new poster on SDN. Just wanted to join this thread since I too, am waitlisted at VCU. I thought the school was great and like you all, I really hope to get in. Good luck to all of you and hopefully we'll see more waitlist movement soon.

VPDcurt, just wanted to give you an update. Dr. H took a few days to get back to me too. This is my first correspondence with her and I can say her retirement is really going to be a loss for VCU. What a personable lady. She will get back to you and don't take the delay to be a bad thing. Apparently, she had a busy week or something. Best of luck to us all.

SO, what's the latest from Dr. H??? dang, folks - don't keep us in the dark!!!
Shyrem, wish I had something big to tell you. Of course, I won't talk about my personal situation, but the general info she gave me, which we all know, it that May 15th is going to be an important date for waitlist movement. No surprise there. Earlier this week I expressed a concern on the board that there was such a delay in her responding to my email inquiry. Lots of lucky folks heard back from Dr. H within one day of emailing her (you included, I think). What I wanted to convey was if you haven't heard back from her yet don't take it negatively. Her response to me was encouraging and I thought others might want to know she WILL get back to you with a realistic assessment of your situation. That's all I've got people. Good luck all.
Dave

If you're referring to my email, she just sent an email saying the website was up (you know, the one we'd already found!)

Sorry to make you repeat yourselves, but what website?

*sigh*

At least with EVMS I can send e-mails and letters and have additional references mailed. The one thing I can't say is that EVMS is my #1 school. I could say that about VCU, but I don't think they'll look at additional information. The irony is killing me.

Anyone heard any good news recently?

😴 Nothing. Just counting the days. 😴 trying to stay awake in class, and I'm teaching 🙄

yeah..ive sent vcu updates but its completely useless since this will never change my priority score. They really need to make some major adjustments to their admissions process...this whole "non-rolling/rolling/uve been waiting since october but now wait some more" thing is getting old real quick. yes i know some may think Im impatient but my god, do applicants have any rights in this friggin process?!?! Its like we pay thousands of dollars to be punished over and over...I LOVED VCU but this waiting is gonna be the end of me

I guess it was only a matter of time. I actually had a DREAM about logging onto SDN and reading VCU central. Horrible dream, too, lots of people found out that they were way down the waitlist. Anyway, consider me . . .

Mango-Nuts.
