Does anyone know from previous years how many people actually get accepted after the post-interview "hold for further action"?
As it was explained to us at my interview, everyone goes through that stage because while they review continuously, they only issue acceptances at certain times. So, that status could mean that you've been reviewed and have a high enough score to be a clear admit, but you're just waiting for the next batch of acceptances to come out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Almost exactly right: not everyone goes through that stage. Some are rejected immediately.

Do we need to start a new countdown? 😀

If anyone is looking to schedule their interview a little earlier, I just withdrew from a Feb. 14th interview (Valentine's day - maybe they'll show a little love?). 😳

Damn. Just called and let them know I WANT IN!! Not very patient, but that is understandable. This school has one down fall...once your on the waitlist, you can basically do NOTHING. Frustrating. How do you let them know that you really want to attend there? oh well. Keep up the fight. I'm tired...its bed time.
😴 :scared: 😡 😀

Bump this bizatch.....

ALLRIGHT. Regarding end of Jan/mid-March offers, after much searching of old threads I have come up with the following information to feed our neurosis:

Last year offers went out on 2/9 and 3/21. Waitlist movement began in early April. Offers went out 4/4, 5/2, 5/13, 5/17, 5/26... it goes on after that. Seems about once a week or so for a while starting in May.

The year before that the Jan/Feb offers didn't go out until like 2/21. They were really far behind.

So when they say "end of January " they really mean "begininning to mid-February". Thanks for searching and letting us know

Okay, let "x" = "the number of days from January 6th until the next batch of offers is mailed"

Today = x-1

Good?

😛

If "x" = "the number of days from January 6th until the next batch of offers is mailed" and Today = x-1, then Today+1 = x

So tomorrow is the day notifications go out!

I hate math. Lets just call x=year 2006
Lets hope we all get accepted in x
not x+1
:scared: 😕
"Are you high or just extremely stupid?"
"I can assure you, I am not high." 😉

anyone know how many acceptances are handed out this next time around??

No idea. Let's just hope they hit the "select all desperate, pathetic bastards" button. 😀

Hey all,
I interviewed there this past week and Dr. Heldberg said that the next set of offers would probably go out either the first or second week of February, and that she thought the number would be around 40 or so. I don't think this is set in stone at all...but I guess it gives a general idea. Good luck to everyone!

Join the club. 🙁

Goddam. I just checked my email and got the 'status change update'. I was momentarily excited that MAYBE, just MAYBE the gods were kind and VCU offered me an interview. Then reality reared it ugly head: REJECTION. I too was in the odious pre-interview 'we'll interview you if we, um, feel like it, maybe' category. gah GAH! yargggg!!!

Sorry about that. Sucks. Oh well, better to be rejected now then after your interview like the majority of us. (still waiting for mine) Keep your chin up. 👍

Sorry, but when did you get this update? Just barely?

They really mean it about reapplication - I applied late last year and got rejected pre-interview after one of those vague messages about my priority score. I applied early this year and got an interview in September. Granted, I'm still waiting for an acceptance at this point, but it's been my only allo interview (and I'm oos).

ShyRem - I'm with you. I have couple other schools I'm waiting on but VCU is the school I prefer to both of them. So cheers to hoping till the end.
Drink up!! 👍

Hey I got this update dated Jan 8 - who knew they worked Sundays?

I've been complete at VCU since October and never received any vague messages about my application except that it was complete. I feel left out.

On an aside from the admissions discussions, does anyone know how big the groups are for anatomy? (ie; how many people per cadaver?) No-one gave me that answer during my interview. Thanks.

Not many people see the anatomy lab at VCU during the interview but I do believe they have numerous cadavers and groups dissect a different section on each cadaver so everyone uses all the cadavers. It also sets things up nicely for the final exam. I'm not 100% sure about this though it's secondhand knowledge coming from me.

BluesClues32 said:
I think 8 people per group

wow. 8? are you sure? That seems like it would really work against really getting experience and being closesly involved with the cadaver. Can you even fit 8 people around a cadaver? Is this a common number at other schools?

Yes, I am pretty sure it was VCU that said they have 8 per body. I've been on several interviews though, so I could be mistaken. As I recall, I asked the tour guide about the large group size, and she said that since she didn't want to be a surgeon, the group size didn't matter. But again, the details between schools are slowly getting mixed up.

I got email about an update on Jan 6th. Interview scheduled for Feb 7th!

there are definitely 8 per cadaver, i asked too

During the tour they said you can request to be in a smaller group.

But not at one time. They alternate A and B days. 4 at a time. I've heard this from other schools so not too uncommon. 😉

Oh those lucky bastards!

Like I said on the VCU vs. EVMS thread, the vast majority of your learning in anatomy won't take place while cutting. The dissecting itself really sucks, actually. The lab is open 24/7, though, so you can spend as many hours as you like making sweet intellectual love to the bods.

😱 Oh...intellectual. :meanie:

Jbone, I keep wanting to call you boner, but that would be inappropriate. I sent a H2 friend request, my broth in law is Havoc, but mine is x don quixote x.

Sorry that was a little off topic, I'm just too freakin lazy to pm people. Anyways all of you who are contemplating going somewhere other that VCU I would suggest you do. They are all much much much much much better schools! 😉 ShyRem, Jbone, and I will take the leftovers and go to VCU. Really all you have to do is click the withdraw application button on the status page.,.come on it's really easy. 😀

Sounds good, call me boner if you like...
Been working nights all week 😴 . Lame. Finish Thursday Morning. We'll play then. And don't forget CrazyCav, vizsla and cf. We're all going to VCU together baby!!
And yes, it's that simple..."withdraw application" Just do it, do it for the boner. :meanie:

jrdn, I know they were closed from 12/20 until 1/3 or so... and last I heard they were running about 2 weeks behind on committee reviews. So if you interviewed on the 12th, you may not hear until next week. But if you have any questions on how far behind they are, you can always call... I've found their admissions office to be very helpful.

Shy-

Do you have a link to the "waitlist movement" thread from last year or the year before that? I can't seem to find it.

Also, does anyone know how many people (on average) get off the waitlist?

Yes.

This is from the year 2004 (as reported by US News).
384 total acceptances went out.

That means 384 - 184 = 200 acceptances were conferred to the "waitlist." This figure does not, however, necessarily indicate that all 200 were given after April.

Wonder if it will be that high this year? Probably higher. 🙁

FYI all.. Just called and they said they are sending out decisions mid February.... I thought they were going faster? :scared:

It was around that time last year wasn't it? And the AdCom got a little behind this year? Maybe they want to go over so many applicants before they send out the next batch of acceptances. I would bet they set those dates because their goal is to over a certain % of applicants before each round of acceptances and not necessarily to give out acceptances on those dates. I would think that they try to make their decisions out of fairness! 👍 But I have an early Feb interview so I'm happy to hear it. Just ignore this post otherwise!
