Can you please elaborate on the content of the message? The VCU status page still says 12/14/05, which has not been updated since then.

What's up?

This is the email I received:

I logged onto the status website and learned that I was accepted. I don't think VCU mails acceptance letters. The university instructed me to download the forms from their website.

Are you excited?

****!!! THIS IS FREAKIN BULL ****!!!! 😡 😡 😡 😡
(BTW, congrats! 👍 )
Freakin interviewed early October. Freakin lame a$$ admissions policy. 👎
I feel like my avatar. VCU is the orange cat with the spiked penis and I'm takin one for the team.

It's weird cause the online status page is supposed to notify us in the heading of any offer dates when they occur. Supposedly, that's whether an offer is made to you or not.

Last time, the VCU page was updated, yet I didn't get an offer OR a notice of a status change via email. Maybe they just forgot to update the status page with today's date...

I feel for you. I was back in October, so it's been tough on a lot of us. Oh, well. Let's keep the spirits up. There's always March.

We're not even worthy of a cursory "We are afraid we cannot make you an offer as of now, and we regret to make you wait longer... Please be patient..." email. Also, yeah, the date at the top of the status page should update with 2/2/2006, since today is apparently a batch offer date.

I don't know if they all go out at the same time or if the computer system takes a while to update. I was accepted during the December batch, and I didn't receive any email or status change until nearly 9:30p.m. Eastern Time (I am currently out west) on the FRIDAY of that week. Anyone else have a strange update/acceptance time like that?

OMG I love you. 😍

You have just given me a ray of hope. That ray should carry me a couple more days, before the realization that I have to wait until May sinks in.

It's posts like these that rock my face! I mean, my world!

(edit: but as far as hope goes, I'm east coast - VA is my home state - and maybe the delay wouldn't carry through for an east coaster? idk...)

I'm imagining a giant mainframe just churning out data, bit by bit, by bit by bit.....lol

Then, VOILA, mr. cfdavid, you've been accepted to the 2006 entering class.................lol

Actually, the VCU lady I spoke to said "before Friday or the end of Friday", so maybe there is a range of days by which they're offering acceptances???

Or is this wishful thinking?? Oh well, like crazycavalier said, it offers a glitter of hope that should be able to carry me another day or so....lol

I understand what it feels to be in your shoes, since I myself did not get in at my state school-the anxiety, the wait, the ordeal. But, from the recent posts, it
seems everyone is entitled to an acceptance. In reality, there are going to be winners and losers in this admissions game. About 50% of the in-staters get an acceptance and 50% of out-of-staters get one as well, with a lot of late-season movement. Be thankful many of you already have an acceptance in hand, and expect the worst but also hope for the best. Thankfully, VCU is semi-rolling and computerized. That means, as soon as a spot is opened, an acceptance is offered. There is still a big offer on March (1/3 of seats) to go.

Status page just updated.

02/03/2006
This is to advise you that the committee decided to send a very limited number of offers out for the February group. Those offers were posted into the system today.

Looks like I'll be waiting for March. 🙁

Thanks! I'm a CA resident. I received the email at 7:30 PM EST. My overnight host and the students I met that day were extremely friendly. I love that VCU has lectures from 8-12 PM every day for the first two years. 🙂

I interviewed the second week of December. I got waitlisted in January and accepted in Feb.

doomed to march... the realization sinks in. march, maybe april, maybe may. people, withdraw your apps. for the love of god. haha 🙂

well folks, I've adopted Stephen Colbert's "on notice" list, and by "adopted" I mean completely copied. but now, I have a new addition to add to it to make it uniquely mine. Here is the new crazy_cavalier "on notice" board:

ON NOTICE
-------------------
Grizzly Bears
Barbara Streisand
Michael Adams
The British Empire
James Brady
Black Hole at Center of Galaxy
Bob Woodruff
The Toronto Raptors
Pant Cuffs
"Business Casual"
Israeli Newspapers
Faberge Eggs
Lutherans
VCU perma-hold update status system

That's right status system. You're on notice. *points finger*

I actually am OOS, and I got accepted on Oct. 15. My interview was in late September.

What do you mean waitlisted in Jan? I thought that the decision now was just a delay of the originally scheduled Jan decision. Did you actually get a wait list notification in Jan?

This might not have been a status page update and I don't think it was. Perhaps VCU sent out so many offers in October and December because they want 100 spots filled or whatever. But if somebody who was accepted at one of these date turns down this offer several days ago, it seems to reason that VCU would go ahead and make an offer to the next person on their list instead of waiting for the next batch of offers because they want so many spots filled. Is there any chance this happened and the next round of acceptances still hasn't happened?

Their system that I keep hearing about doesn't seem to take those people into account (who withdraw post-acceptance in Jan/Feb). Is the next offer immediately made then or does it go out in the next round?

I think they wait until the offer date. They may just increase the number of people that get accepted at that time. I think after alternate list if formed in March, they accept as people withdraw

Countdown to March 20th, anyone? It sounds like that's the closest we've got to a date for the next mailing.

I'll start: 45 days.

Ugh.

Yeah, that's it for this month. I just talked to the admissions office. The lady said that she doesn't know how many offers will be made in March, and that if/when people that already hold acceptances withdraw, those will obviously open up slots. But, those won't be offered until the mid (to late)-March offering.

Oh, well. Madi, I'll second the 45 days..........

Anyone know the last day to interview at VCU?

Their last regular decision date is mid-March. According to Dr. H, on that decision date they have out 184 acceptances. After that date, waitlist movement happens. So, mid-March they should have 184 acceptances out that have not been declined, thus in theory filling the class.

Here's what I don't understand. I have been on hold since September. This leads me to think that my net score is neither outstanding, nor repulsive. Let us say it is 2.5 for the sake of simplicity.

The first round of acceptances in October probably had a cut-off of, oh, 1.5. That means anyone with 1.5 or lower got in (theoretically, of course).

In December, did the cut-off score increase? Was it, say, 1.8? This last acceptance round, did they lower the standard even more? 2.0 maybe?

If they are not lowering the acceptance cut-off standard, what the hell is the point in being on hold? Does anyone get what I mean? Do I even really stand a shot in March or should I just stop hoping for it. Im getting really annoyed by this stupid system.

yeah, i hear you.

Im also wondering if there is any reason for me to wait. I was accepted to my state school, so I will definitely not attend VCU if accepted. Should I withdraw now? Or wait until I hear something from them?

If you definitely won't attend there, then by all means withdraw.

Congrats on the acceptance, btw. 🙂

hahah...i was JUST thinking same thing. They dont necessarily have to be lowering the cut-off bc as they interview more and more people, these people could be assigned scores that are much lower than cutoffs...example: for this past round of Feb acceptances, even if they pushed cutoff to 2.0, the couldve definitely interviewed applicants between December and February who were assigned scores a lot lower than 2.0, thus never reaching applicants who were interviewed much earlier with scores near the supposed new cutoff of 2.0 ...... in trying to be fair to applicants interviewed later in the cycle, they really end up screwing us over royally. At least we can all bank on lots of out of staters coming off waitlist. I think the process rewards instaters during the actual interview season but once a waitlist is made, thats when out-of-staters get the advantage...

I'm planning on calling Dr. H at the end of March and asking if there's any chance in hell for me to get an acceptance. I mean, my husband needs to look for a job, we need to buy a house, my kids need to get into a school... VCU's my top choice, and if there's a reasonable chance for me to go there we won't make plans for Maine, but if there's no chance we need to get moving.

Sorry 'bout the rambling up there. I haven't eaten yet today... been cleaning, shopping, laundry-ing.. the normal 'Mom' stuff. 🙂

Not a bad idea. After all, it's gonna take time finding a place to live, and getting everything else in order. In your case, I think it's totally reasonable to explain to Dr. H that you're a non-trad with a family. It's just not the same as a 22 year old that can move without TOO much hassle two days before class begins after getting off the waitlist at the final hour.

Man, this process is a real "treat" isn't it?...

I agree. However, I do think it's awesome that VCU has a scholarship for the last person who gets in off of the waitlist. 🙂

If you get Dr. Brooks as your interviewer, be ready to talk about Harry Potter. 👍 Actually, he told me he's only read the first five books, so I one upped him. 🙂

But seriously though, with your numbers and VA residency, as long as you act sane, you are sure to get in!

Even if you've not read any of them he's not that tough on you 🙁 I learned that from experience!!

But it's really more of a conversation than anything. Review your application and be prepared to take a stand on an ethical issue or 2 and you'll be fine!

To OOS students hoping for an acceptance:

I may be dropping my acceptance soon. I got offered a full scholarship and I highly doubt VCU would even think to match or exceed (If that's possible), especially with me being out of state. I plan to hold off until March 1. Then I'll send my other acceptances along also. A small part of me wants to see if I can use it (award letter) for leverage, but I'm tired of this process and would like to move on.

Good luck for those of you continuing to wait. If you aren't a praying person, you may want to start. I'll post here if I w/d.

Hey, what's this all about? How much is the scholarship worth?

I think it's a full ride scholarship set up by some big name alum that was the last one off the waitlist in his application year. It's a pretty big deal, actually, but I'd prefer to be able to take the spot by getting off the list EARLY.

Same here. Haha. A full ride to my state school would be sweet, but... having an ordinary ride there would be sweet too! CMON MARCH!!

Probably when interviews have ended and everybody has been reviewed by the committee?? I don't think VCU does any waitlist interviews but I could be wrong.
