No word yet in Tennessee, but I think the mail should take at least 3 days to get here. man, not getting that e-mail Tuesday has really ruined my week. 🙁
 
aww i'm sorry to hear that, kid capri! i was pretty bummed out yesterday too...it was my best interview, and i felt super comfortable there and really loved the school! *sigh* i really hope i'm on the waitlist and not totally rejected 😳

good luck to us all! i'll post whenever i hear something...i'm in DC, so i'll prolly get a sad little letter tomorrow!
 
Somewhere2010, I feel your pain. I also thought this was my best inteview, but we'll see. There might be hope for us all yet 🙂

Any news yet? If the letters went out 2 days ago, they should have arrived yesterday and today...
 
For what it's worth... rejected today in Upstate NY!

Good luck you guys... I hope you're all on the waitlist and that it moves like... a moving van? :luck:
 
There was no indication of a waitlist rank, but the letter said that 25% of matriculants typically come off of the waitlist and that they expect most movement to occur before the end of June. I talked to someone in the admissions office over the phone on Tuesday and was told that the waitlist would be ranked after people decided whether or not to remain on the waitlist, she said she wasn't sure whether or not they were going to do the dial-a-thon this year.

Does anyone know how many people are typically waitlisted?
 
this is more of a general question, but how does financial aid packaging work if you are waitlisted? do you typically find out very soon after being pulled from the waitlist? part of me wants to write yale a letter of intent (i know, i know, i said that about wash u like a week ago...so i'm flaky!), but i couldn't 100% commit to a school without knowing what the $$ is like.

any input?

p.s. i love moving vans, risa! i hope your prediction is correct! 😉 ahaha

Just out of curiosity (I haven't gotten my letter yet), what is the dial-a-thon?

You're supposed to submit your Financial Aid forms, but they won't process them until you're offered an acceptance. At that point, they will quickly calculate your package so that you can make your decision.

She wasn't very specific but said that waitlistees could call in to talk to the dean about their rank on the waitlist- this was the first I had heard of it too until ChocolateKiss's post yesterday, so I'm sorry I don't know much more than that yet. ChocolateKiss, do you know any more about what this dial-a-thon thing is about?
 
okay i got wait listed, and i called the office of admissions. they told me that the waiting list will not be ranked until after all the wait list responses have been recieved, so that information will not be available until much later, probably 3-4 weeks.

You were accepted into Harvard, but not even waitlisted at Yale? Yale has a large waitlist, you didn't even get put on the bottom of that? 😕

You got accepted into Penn, but didn't even get an interview at Columbia??? Columbia interviews about 1/2 the people that apply.

It's crazy 😱 . The way schools decide seems so random sometimes. Not just you, but other posters. I've seen people rejected from their state schools but get into Harvard, Yale, or Penn. It's crazy.
 
just got home...rejection in DC. i'm really bummed about it! at the risk of sounding cocky, i'll say that i thought i'd at least get on the waitlist. but it sounds like we all thought we had amazing interviews...

i keep telling myself, "hey, somewhere, at least this makes your decision a little easier, right?" hmmm...not working just yet! 🙁

Hi somewhere 2010-- i was convinced that you would get in, too. i'm really sorry to hear that and pretty shocked, too.
maybe in a week, this will make it easier: you have some of the top schools in the country to choose from, and you are amazingly lucky to have a choice to attend these schools. in the end, it won't really matter where you go, as long as you try your best and make the most of where you are.

also, i think they may have said no to you since you were already holding on to some awesome acceptances? i'm sure that cornell, michigan, and chicago are schools that are their competitors, and they figured you wouldn't really go their if you had those schools as back up? just speculation. (that's why i think risa got rejected too, which makes noooo sense to me either).

Awwww sorry somewhere 🙁. I don't think you sound cocky... you're not rejection material in my eyes!

Like others have said, you just never know in this crazy process. I certainly never expected to get in everywhere (that would be caraazy) but it's still kind of funny to find out where I did and didn't since it doesn't particularly correlate with any of my impressions of how things went (I had great Yale interviews too!)

After getting into my first choice, the results of the rest of my schools have been mainly an idle interest to me since I'm in where I most want to be, but it's disappointing to see someone like you who was really considering Yale get the boot!

Hope you feel unbummed soon...

schools can't see what other places someone's been accepted to, and I think it would be crazy to think they're looking at MDapplicants.com :laugh:

Anyway, I don't think Yale would be worried about someone picking another school over them. I would bet all my acceptances that even in state schools those type of discussions never occur.

As for Risa, I think it just shows how random a lot of this stuff is (who interviews you, who reviews your application, etc.) I mean, she didn't even get an interview at Columbia. I doubt Columbia was thinking "oh she'll probably get into Harvard and pick them over us, so lets not interview her".

You should still hope to get into Hopkins. I've heard that Harvard sometimes adjusts aid to bring in students who are deciding between the two. (unless you're rich and not expecting financial aid, if you get into Hopkins you should at least pretend to be interested).

Last year they picked 1 hr on a specific date when you could call the admissions office to find out your status. They grouped people into three tiers (1,2,3), tier 1 being the highest. Unfortunately, it was virtually impossible to get through to the admissions office during the dial-a-tier, so most people ended up frustrated on hold for an hour. I hope they think of a more civilized way to do it this year.

Oh yeah, definitely... any angle on aid is good with me (definitely not rich!). Plus it would be super flattering to get in... but if not, well, I'm not exactly jumping off any bridges!
 
aww thanks for your sympathy guys! ehehe i know i'm really fortunate with this whole process, and i really love the other schools where i'm accepted. the sting from yale is already subsiding, so i know it'll all work out just fine!

yes, it's definitely true that this process is soooo random! i may be speaking through lemon drop- and hefeweisen-colored glasses at the moment, but i never thought i'd be in the position to choose from the places i have now - so i'm absolutely not disappointed overall! 😛
 
received my rejection letter today in California. Yale, how could you do this to me? I thought we had something special!! 😀
 
Waitlist letter received 3/30/2006 in So Cal. "Canned" letter for sure. But they do "regret having to prolong this period of uncertainty" because they "know that you are a strong applicant" 😛
 
Waitlist today in GA, guess it's better than the alternative. And hey, they even include postage for your preaddressed return envelope!!! I don't know if someone already posted this, but they say about 25% of the class comes off waitlist, so what's that, 25 people? Mine doesn't say anything about size of waitlist or tiers...
 
Got the rejection letter yesterday, in CA. I had my best interview and worst interview there, so I guess that averages out to a rejection.
 
Anyone still not gotten their letter? I'm waiting for mine and wondering when it is time to call. Also, is their a time limit to respond to the waitlist offer before they bump you off?

To clarify, this is an email that was sent to waitlisted applicants in the past:

To: Waiting List Applicants

I am writing to applicants on the waiting list to add a few words of
clarification to yesterday's e-mail. Several applicants have asked
whether we rank the waiting list and, if so, whether we tell applicants
where they stand as the process moves along.

The answer to the first question is "yes, but not exactly." We don't
rank the waiting list in rigid numerical order, but we do divide it into
three ranked tiers, which we call simply Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3.
As for telling applicants where they stand in this scheme, this is what
we are going to do: Beginning on Monday, April 5, we will be taking
telephone calls from applicants on the waiting list to answer questions
about their relative position and probability of being accepted.
Designated calling times are Mondays from 2:00 to 3:00 and Fridays from
2:00 to 3:00 from April 5 until the incoming class is set. If you wish
to discuss your position on the waiting list during these hours, please
call (203) 785-2696.

Thanks ChocolateKiss. My premed advisor said she was going to call them today or Monday to see if she could find out more about how the ranking is going to work this year. I'm curious to find out approximately how many people are on the waitlist. I'll post if/when I find out any new info.

rejected in CA, wow, my second-best interviews were there. My other best interviews were a rejection too, lol.
 
Waitlisted in Texas. Any ideas as to when we'd first expect movement off of the waitlist?
 
Waitlisted in California. I love Yale...I wish wish wish I knew if I had any chance at getting in. Please post any info that you guys get about the Waitlist. Let's go through this stressful process together.

Anyone gotten the "High Waitlist" yet? Do we know if such a waitlist exists this year (as has been the case in previous years)?
 
Waitlisted in Cali. I mailed the withdrawal today though, so I hope that spot eventually makes it to one of you deserving folks. 👍
 
i saw some posts in the past about people finding out in the very first wait list letter that they were in the high group - did anyone get that? my letter just said on the wait list, and no info about group 1/2/3

I haven't heard anyone mention a high waitlist yet this year. Maybe that's good news for all us regular waitlistees...Maybe there is no high waitlist yet...
 
So I called the admissions office today, and they're still saying it'll be a couple weeks before they know our rankings. Yale....you said a couple of weeks a couple of weeks ago! Anyone else had any luck getting more specific info out of Yale? Any of you high waitlisters heard anything?
 
FYI i called the admissions office today. the dial-a-thon is indeed happening again this year, and they said that an email will go out to waitlisted applicants in the next two-ish weeks announcing when we should call in

this is soooo aggravating

if you are reading this and still debating between yale and xxxx SOM, just go there so that us waitlisted folks who really want to go to yale can get in already. pretty please with a cherry on top?
 
I'm not sure how helpful this is, but I got waitlisted at Yale. I also got an email from Dr. Silverman addressed to "Dear Applicants on the High Waiting List." It basically says that since almost all the people on the high waiting list get in "over the coming weeks", I'm invited to the second look. This is very weird -- if they think so highly of me, just let me the eff in! It was sent 4/11 at 9:53 PM and had four attachments. Anyone else get this?
 
If there are people on the high waitlist who don't get in, how could anyone get in from the regular waitlist? It seems like there's a waitlist of hundreds and Yale's only going to take a handful at best.

I got this email too...are you going to the 2nd Look? I'm conflicted...I don't want to spend the money (to come up from VA) if I might not even be accepted in the end, but, by the same token, if I do get in, I'll regret not going to the 2nd Look when I'm trying to make my final decision. So, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go.

Still, I totally agree with you--Hey, Yale, LET US IN NOW!!! (or reject us, just no more of this limbo, please!)

I'm feeling the same ambivalence...except I'm a little more optimistic about it (top stands for "the optimistic pessimist" :laugh: ). I feel that if they thought enough of us to send us to the second look, we're almost locks to eventually get in. That said, there is another second look that weekend for a school I like just as much, and I actually got in instead of this weird stuff. Also, i'm from NC (even farther away than you!), and this other school is within driving distance. That pretty much seals it for me.

The Yale second look looks pretty sweet though, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Total, it shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred bucks, which will be worth the peace of mind. I have my reservations about the Yale System, but the kids there when I interviewed seemed very nice, well-rounded, and friendly. I hope you like it!
