2006 Yale Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes I got in. I don't know what position I was on the wait list, I never called. I did NOT receive a "high waitlist" letter. So, I'm guessing that I was either bottom 1st tier or top of 2nd. Things are moving, so I hope that you guys get in.

I just got off the phone with RS and have some updates that will no doubt interest you, as this thread has been dead for some time:

1. They have gotten through group 1 on the waitlist

2. They are "within shouting distance" of me, and I am somewhere in the middle of group 2.

3. This is, so far, a "statistically normal" year, and therefore I still have a "realistic" chance (that was the word he used several times.)

4. There's a number of students holding acceptances who are likely to be doing other things in 2006 (study abroad, family issues, fellowships etc.) and those spots may open up soon.

5. Things are likely to be "pretty well locked down by the end of June, and hopefully a week or so before that."

6. They should have a very good idea of whether they'll get to me, (again, mid-group 2) in 10 days to two weeks (I believe the implication there may have been that I needn't call again until then 😳 ).

That's the news, hope it helps. Best of luck to everyone!! :luck:

PS Where are posts from all those Group 1ers that voted in the poll? 😕

Thanks- That's a great post. I'll put off my own call to RS for another 10 days, save us a both a conversation.

FYI I got the same "10 days to two weeks" line... two weeks ago. So that's what he says to everyone, and they'll call when they call. I spoke with Barbara Watts yesterday and she said they might know more by the end of the week, but I think I'm done calling to get their standard speech. Now back to the waiting game of the previous 11 months

Hey Ruglazier:

Congrats on getting in!

Out of curiosity - do you know if you were in the upper/middle/lower group of tier 2?
I Never was given that information, I fished for it from Mrs Watts but she want as forthcoming as Dean Silverman from what I glean.
Again, good luck guys

Curious if anyone's talked to RS recently. Also, did we ever find anyone who was told they're third tier, but not at the very top?

I was told a few weeks ago that I was in the "upper half" of the third tier but I didn't get the "cusp" spiel. I spoke with RS today and was told that within the next 2-3 weeks he expects the third tier to be moving. He also said that it's a pretty good year for waitlisters because they expect to go into the third tier although he wasn't specific about how much and told me to call back in another two weeks.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far!

That seems like good news. 'cept they apparently stated the same thing a couple of years ago and never reached group 3.

I heard that the dean will be away on vacation for awhile. Has anyone from mid or low group 2 gotten a lucky call yet?

so we can't call them for a week and a half. any movements lately?

Very lucky to hear good news this week from Yale. Just so you know I was in Group 2, although I do not know where in group 2 I was located. (I'm assuming it wasn't top of group 2 though) ...also, yes, I sent a loi a couple of months ago.

I heard that the Dean won't be taking calls until June 28th, although that doesn't mean that you won't hear anything next week. If you have questions I'm sure the secretary would be more than happy to give you a hand, she is wonderful.

I'm rooting for all of you!! :luck:

I don't know why I'm this masochistic. I'm currently convincing myself I don't even want the east coast. But can we try to guage where we are in tier two? I saw some "upper tier 2"s got in (duh.) Was anyone told they were "lower tier 2" or does Yale refrain from EVER using pessimistic language?

i had basically forgotten about my hopkins app in my quest to get into yale and totally didn't expect this, but today i got in off the waitlist at johns hopkins. very exciting, very emotionally validating, but it's not my top choice.... does anyone know how this sort of thing affects my status at yale? or if i should call silverman? advice??
yale let me in!!

Can't see why it would affect your Yale status, but congrats!

First off, congratulations on getting in! You must be on cloud 9 from the great news.

Secondly, I doubt it. When I got off the WL at Yale, RS asked me where I was holding a current acceptance. Of course, this is purely anecdotal, but I doubt they have time to keep track of your acceptances and such.

Also, some more good news because I'm really rooting for all of you. :luck: If this is in fact a "statistically normal year" (as stated by the dean himself). Then it seems hopeful for those in the upper part of tier 3. I know for a fact an individual who was top tier 3 who is a 2009 student. Unfortunately, he had to wait as late as early August before he received the acceptance. But nevertheless, they got to him...

Crap, I seriously need to defer if i'm admitted off the waitlist (lots of stuff lined up for next academic year already). But if they get to tier 3 cusp after June 30th, then i'm screwed.

(sigh) 'Oh me miserum'.

ohh, "the cusp"... It certainly is crowded in here. Thanks for the MDapp comment - I am considering it. What do you have planned for next year?

I'm just about to withdraw... hope my spot goes to one of you folks! :luck: :luck: :luck: 🙂

i called in and they were very receptive to my update... talked with barbara watts who seems to think that they will get me an answer by monday... evidently silverman is out of town and can't be reached by cell or email, my guess is either central africa or southern indiana 🙂
i can't sit still!!

WOW!

got a call back from barbara watts saying she managed to track down silverman and lentz and offered me a spot! unbelievable! soooooo excited

for everyone still waiting... with any luck they will let me defer and you can have my spot 🙂

can't keep this smile off my face

Hi,

If any of you have any questions about New Haven...feel free to message me. I loved being an undergrad there and the med school is like they say "the disneyland of med schools!"

...
Sooo... You have multiple acceptances, yet you campaigned to get off the waitlist, and now you want to defer? I suppose it's my unique position of getting off waitlist or reapplying, but damn, that's irritating.

i've wanted to defer since sophomore year so if you want to complain about your life kindly do it elsewhere. i had one acceptance unti monday, and i think i'm allowed a week of holding multiple acceptances... as you should know, everyone else held multiple acceptances for months, thus delaying my desired acceptance until this week. F off

Dopamine, when you get in we will be just as excited for you as we were for Jack. Jack, congratulations again.

Well put Centinel. You're such a stand-up guy or girl. I wish we were friends.
Congratulations Jack! I bet you will get the deferral since the deadline isn't until June 30th and Yale gives out deferrals like hall monitors give out pink slips.
Dopamine, remember, the more people who defer, the more likely it is that you well get off the waitlist! So, whether or not you are envious of Jack, Yale is his first choice and he is doing you a favor by opening up a spot. Anyone who is considering deferring, defer!!!

🙄 That's cute (unsarcastically).

does anyone who got into yale from the waiting list mind sharing their stats? I am thinking about applying to some ivies but i dont want to waste my time if they will just look write over my app if i dont have the stats

Fastest way to do that is to just go to mdapplicants.com. They have a search function where you can narrow it down based on MCAT, GPA, school, and whether the applicant was waitlisted or accepted.

I just withdrew from the Class of 2010 today. Good luck to you all, especially ER and JP.

spoke with the dean today... officially accepted and deferred! as it turns out, yale (much like usc) likes well-rounded doctors and is happy to allow people to defer if it will aid their life goals. so as long as it's before the deadline, they defer for any reason whatsoever. israel, spain and europe, here i come!!!

good luck to everyone still on the waitlist. my spot is yours, and i will see you in august 07

Who are ER and JP? Just curious.

Also, I talked to RS last night, and he finally started toning down the excessive optimism, so that's something. Last time I talked to him, he told me "if and when you get in" and I realized I wasn't going to get a realistic picture any time soon. Guess the realistic picture's starting to form.

i like the tiff between dopaminesurge and jackbauer. smells like unresolved sexual tension. $10 says they bump like rabbits in anatomy lab by the first month of school in 07.

just my prediction is all. 😉 😀 👍

What did RS say about the waitlist? Does he think they'll get to group 3?

How did you get in touch with him? I thought he was unavailable until Wednesday?

Heh. So I guess he's not taking calls till Weds. but he got back yesterday. Since I call internationally they make exceptions, they told me. And Kir - I'm either in the Yale 2006 anatomy class or in a 2007 anatomy class that won't be in New Haven, so I guess Jack and I will have to let it all out some other time.

RE: tier 3, I don't know - he was pretty much noncommital and said something like "if these 5 people decide to stay it goes one way, and if they don't, it goes another. Call Friday." I don't know what that means.

That's cryptic. Do you think he meant that there are fewer than 5 people left in group 2?

If that's true, then I know two of them - which would be statistically absurd.

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty set on attending another school now, which I decided I prefer over Yale, so I haven't been checking this thread lately. However, after reading what I believed to be some factually incorrect posts, I decided to call Yale (mostly out of curiosity) this week and got a similar story to Dopamine. I was told that they are not finished with Group 2. RS still thinks they may break into Group 3 before the end, but he said he's no longer as confident as he was a few weeks ago. He also says that if they do get into Group 3, it won't be for at least a couple of weeks.

Good luck to all of you still waiting. Stick it out to the end if you really want to go to Yale. Who knows what random movement could occur at the very end of the season, and if you're willing to change your plans at the last minute, maybe you can snag a spot.

Anyone know if yale looks at high school grades or SAT scores because i did not fair too well in high school and got into a decent school(UCLA) because of athletics and did great. By the way i'll most likely be applying soon for next year, once i complete my app. Id rather not waste my time, if i have no chance because they have certain sat cutoffs or other similar reqs.

cbennet-- Yale, nor any other medical school (that I know of, except for Wash U, maybe), looks at high school grades or SAT scores. Unless the grades have transferred over to college if you took AP classes or other college courses in high school, it should not be a problem. Don't worry about stuff like that-- they look at academic performance in college.
