2007 AACOMAS Questions/Concerns

I submitted my AACOMAS application without filling in an MCAT score and I wanted to update it now that I have my score, but it doesn't allow me to do that. Does this matter since they will receive my score from AAMC anyway?

You'll need to go to https://services.aamc.org/mcatthx/ and log in.

Under "What would you like to do?", Click on "Send all my scores". Click on "American Assn. of College of Osteopathic Med. App. Serv." Then, Click "Add."

AAMC will send your MCAT score to AACOMAS and will be updated automatically when it arrives.

At my undergrad our intensive writing course is acutally broken into two courses 1) the actual course, and 2) a blanket 0.0 credit course for all intensive writing courses that is not graded but is associated with the actual writing course, identifying that it is an intensive writing course. The grade that appears on my transcript for this class is S. There is nothing like that in the AACOMAS grade pulldown tab - the closest thing is Pass, but that dosen't really fit the bill here. What should I choose? Should I just enter that course as a 0.0 credit course, S as my grade, and then for the AACOMAS grade enter the grade that I was given for the actual writing course (in this case A) or choose something else instead, like Pass or Exempt?

I also had a question on the application: when writing the descriptions for work/volunteer/etc., is it recommended to write in full sentences, or bullet-form, like in a resume? thanks!

anybody have an idea when the DO schools will be ready to accept applications and when AACOMAS will send apps out? 😕

I'm the president for the pre-med club for the 2006-2007 school year so I have that listed and the beginning date is May 2006. I've been a member of pre-med club since August of 2003, so should I list this seperately with an ending date of May 2006 or should I just combine the two?

AACOMAS submitted and paid 05-24-06

AACOMAS completed (re-sent transcripts the transcripts got lost and had to resend, hence the delay) 06-19-06

AACOMAS verified and GPA calculated 06-22-06

According to them, they will be sending out first batch applications hopefully the earlier part of the next week.

  • I think
  • that it is better
  • to write
  • in complete
  • sentences.
  • That is what
  • professional
  • students do.

I don't mean to make fun. Did you know that there was this cool bullet-point option? 👍

sent my app in.... lets get that gpa calculated baby!! 🙂

I have just made the decision to apply to DO programs- I know it's late but...is it too late to submit my app in AACOMAS? I've taken the MCAT, so I should have everything ready...thoughts??

why in the world would you think it is late? it's not even july and AACOMAS opened in June. It is not late at all by any means, even if you submitted in september, i wouldn't consider it late, go ahead, submit it. good luck. :luck:

Alright guys, I have a quick question and I'm not sure if it has been asked and if it has, I apologize for the re-post. My question is on the course work for the application. So for the grade portion you put what your transcript says. As for the AACOMAS grade, there are two options to use, you can put down a letter grade or a numerical value. Which one do I use? For now I have just put the same letter grade for AACOMAS as my transcript grade. Any suggestions? Another Q is for classification section in course work, if it is a regular course that you did not repeat or anything like that, do you put none under that section? Thanks for the help guys

hello,

Quick question: When can we start on secondaries or supplementary applications? Do we find them on the schools websites or do we have to wait for them to be sent to us by mail/email, etc?

Thanks,
Tiff

Also, When should we send in the LORs from a DO? Should we have already sent them or asap??

Letters from DOs ie shadowing go in with ur SECONDARY APPS! Hope that helps. U have time dont worry

When would we get secondaries? I heard some schools, you can find it on their website. So far I only found one school's secondary. Still looking them all up tho

Curiously, How many schools are people applying to?

I'll probably end up applying to 12: NSU, CCOM, MSU, KCUMB, KCOM, UNJMDSOM, OU, OSU, PCOM-PA, PCOM-GA, VCOM, and WVSOM.

I am applying to four-PCOM-GA(1st), AZCOM, LECOM-Bradenton, and NSU.

By the way, I completed my application of May 16th- first day available, and it is June 25th and still has not been outsourced to secondaries. Anyone know how long it usually takes- this tuesday it will be six weeks. thank, guys and good luck to all

No idea- was wondering that myself

They will send them to you. Basically, they screen your application to make sure you meet the minimum requirements and then you get to pay them to do more essays, and fill out more information! Fun!

Okay, I am a little confuse with the coursework part of the application. I changed the year I took my classes and everything is chronologically in order. That means it is done correctly right? I can't remember if it was out of order before.

the order is not a big deal... just match your transcript with the aacomas app.

for me... it kept showing spring sem before fall sem for some reason... but whatever... i did it the way my transcript shows it, and i think thats what counts.

Alright - I'm still reading this thread and I apologize if there is a similar situation, but I have to ask so I can feel like I'm getting something done today.

I used the shotgun approach thoughout my schooling. As a result, I had 2-3 jobs at a time and a full course load. Yeah me. The debacle is:

Employment:
I had some jobs that were only winter term, such as T.A.ing so if I list them separately, I'll have to cut and paste the description for each year, thus cluttering my application. This wouldn't be a big deal, except my application has ALL sorts of things like that.
Why list bank teller, theater set designer, notetaker, TA etc, when I can focus on the research and vet experience? Because they added up. My grades aren't stellar because I was working all those jobs, but I'm going to clutter up my app real fast with duplicates and non-relavent jobs.

School:
I switched schools back and forth, sometimes going to two places as one time. Do I create a different profile for each time I went to a school? I can't claim I attended the school from 2000-2004 if in 2003 I didn't go there at all, you know?

Jeez, anyone else finding things about their track record that makes you go "mmm..."? I was all over the place!

Confusing. Can anyone help me out on this one?

Thanks - this thread is answering questions I didn't know I had.

Caboose.

OK so I'm completely confused.

Do I submit my app before they get my transcripts or do I wait until they get them?

Hi All!
Hopefully I'llbe able to get some pointers here. Sorry if this' been asked before. On AACOMS app we must answer "medical school accepted/attended" Q. For me it's yes,b/c I studied in East Europe (domicile) MD program in late 1980s, and some credits were given to me for my U.S undergrad. I'll enter that. But...that's not all. Back in May 2004 I was accepted to ROSS, SABA, SMU. Went to ROSS (Dominica) financed through SallieMae (Stafford). I'd rather not mention it b/c I withdrew after a 1 semester, mostly for health reasons, and have not taken any finals there, and therefore no grades to show. But I don't want it to look like I'm hiding something. Since if accepted, I'll have to apply for feds loans again, I don't want it to come back and bite me in my @$$ :scared: Any thoughts?
TIA

My extracurriculars are not in chronological order automatically. They are basically listed as I entered them.

Is this right?

I don't know really, but you probably have to talk about that, since you were matriculated in a medical school.

Does anyone know if AP classes can ever get figured into your GPA? My schools only gives you units (not grades) for AP classes...THANK YOU

Mine did not get counted towards GPA- it shows up separately under GPA Calcs.

Hey Cowboy - I read this:

""Q: When can transcripts be sent to AACOMAS and where should they be sent?
A: Transcripts can be sent prior to completing and submitting your application to AACOMAS. They will be kept on file until your application is submitted. Once you have submitted your application, you will be able to check on the status of transcripts online. Transcripts MUST be sent directly from the registrar's office of each institution that you have attended and sent to the following address:
AACOMAS
5550 Friendship Blvd., Ste. 310
Chevy Chase, MD 20815-7231""

And took it to mean that you gotta put your jeans on before your spurs - I'm not submitting until I get the transcripts in. If anyone has anything different, do tell. I don't think it will matter for me as I'm taking my sweet time, it seems.

I don't think it would have mattered a few weeks ago, but the first batch of applications are being sent out tomorrow. So, getting things in as soon as possible no matter the order will ensure that you have a chance to correct problems. I had a problem with my AACOMAS verification. The undercredited me by 30 semester hours. Submitting it early allowed this to be corrected and ready to be sent out tomorrow.

No. I've gotten a woman before. I just usually ask to speak to a specific person.

Hey guys, what's happening?
What do you think archeology is? Is it just a non-science? Just checkin'.

Non-science unless its a cross listed course under a bio heading.

so i talked to AACOMAS last week to confirm that my new April '06 scores were loaded in their computers..they confirmed.

Then today I called to ask them if my old AND NEW score were sent out with my app. She told me that the new april score was not sent out, but would be updated to the schools in about a week.

So i pressed her on this, she talked to her manager and he says that indeed, the new april 06 score WAS INCLUDED in the apps that were sent today.

what is going on over there? Are these people just making up answers to our questions or are they answering based on facts????

Im worried now, because I got in the early batch of applicants, and I wanted my new score to be included with it.

Damn the Man! Thanks for lettin' me know - I haven't been chatting and not really paying attention to dates. That's inspiring.

Back the truck up - where's the shadowing going now?

If it goes under EC's where I'm putting it right now, did you say, "I was a doctor stalker. Watched him all day, found out about his family life. I didn't do it for very long, but it's one of the few things I got goin' for me. Whoohoo!

Not a problem. As long as you get it done by a reasonable date, there should be no problem. I'm figuring that my problem was extremely rare. It was just unfortunate that it happened to me.

Being a doctor stalker will definitely get you into med school 👍 If you're going to write about shadowing, I would explain generally what you saw and heard. It may be nice to talk about other issues you talked about with the doc...such as healthcare and what not. This is providing that you don't already have an LOR from him, which will just reiterate what you write. Go for it Master Chief!

Since I had a problem with my semester hours, their fault, not mine, I was directed to specific person and have used that person as a contact. Apparently, he's on vacation this week. I think all my inquiries gave him a breakdown. lol

hehe yea that's what i think i'm doing to this guy   ...out of the 20 or so times i've called i've only spoken to someone else once...I find that the weirdest thing. 😱 and I'm not even halfway done so i'm sure i'll drive him a bit bonkers.

You should just introduce yourself...so he knows you by name. It might alleviate the awkwardness. On the other hand, that may not be a good thing...

He must know your voice by now. Next time change your voice. Get some helium...

No I think I'll keep the mystery alive by remaining anonymous 😎 🙂 but still i find it very very strange.

Little late in the game..

but why does ACCOMAS only give us 750 characters for work experience 😡

Not sure what to cut out of my essays now..they are all too long.. 😡

Any advice.

pretty sure this is a pretty late reply - mine weren't either and my friends made me retype them to come up in chronological order so if you want them to just go as is, go for it (or did you already? 🙂 if not, change'em

all three of mine are in and next to TRANSCRIPTS they ahve the date the last one was received. So, i think that means complete.

BUT, randomly, they have my CC listed as both main campus and western campus when I only went to one and only have the transcript in from one. So, does the date next to it mean it is complete?
