Just got a status update stating I'm on hold. My interview was 9/11 and was reviewed by committe on 9/25.

Sorry to ask, but are you a VA resident? Do you felt you interviewed well? Also, hate to ask, but what were your states? (You can message me if its invasion of privacy or ignore the last sentence)

i got the same vague status page update yesterday, i was complete 8/22

Do you think everyone who interviewed early got the hold message, which will later change to acceptance/waitlist on Oct. 15th, or do you think that only those who are waitlisted got the hold message?

Maybe someone who was accepted/waitlisted/rejected from the last application cycle can answer that for us?

looking at the previous year's VCU thread, I saw people who got the "hold" status on 10/5, but then they got accepted on 10/16!...so I think that this is just an email that goes out to people who interviewed before the 15th saying "Yeah, we have made a decision on your file. You may be rejected/waitlisted/accepted. If you are accepted you will find out on the following dates, etc."

do you have a link?

I just got the hold message too. I interviewed on 9/19. I'm OOS and thought my interview didn't go too well. It was in a stuffy room which was only magnified by a suit and tie, and I had forgotten some of the stuff I had written in my secondaries. All in all, regardless of the interview, I wasn't too impressed with VCU.

I checked out last year's thread on VCU. Apparently on 10/15, there will be about 20 acceptances handed out, most if not all will be to in state applicants.

I think that they just want us to know a decision has been made and that they can not let us know until Oct. 15. Since they say that we could find out on Oct. 15 and that is the very earliest date that they can release acceptances, this message just means that they can't say anything yet (I think). That's what I remember hearing in my interview. At least we know we've gone to committee!!!

Is anyone else freaking out as much as I am? I interviewed on 9/14 and got the on hold status update today....I don't know if I can take it...I just want to know!!!

If you got the hold status, does that mean that you will DEFINATELY hear A DECISION (i.e. accept/hold/reject) on October 15? Or will that status not change till December 15? I looked at last years thread but could not decipher the multitude of messages.

Hold status is the best you can get at this point. It means that you weren't outright rejected (priority score of 3.5+). Some people (not many and mostly in-staters) will get accepted in October. But most people who already interviewed will not get a decision on October 15th. They will wait until the next offers date. And the next... Some people who interviewed in September last year didn't find out their final status (accepted/rejected/alternate) until March 21. Then the alternate list game begins. About half of the people come from the waitlist to make up a VCU class because of the specific admissions process.

Just to add a little to apparition's post:

Unlike some schools, MCV never has more than 184 people (the size of the class) who are holding an acceptance at a given time, ie they can't overbook the class. Some schools will toss out 300 acceptances at a time and then have lots not accept. MCV does not do this. They slowly increase the number of people who have acceptances to 184 by march 15th. So 25 by oct 15, another 50 by dec 15, 50 more by feb 15 etc.

After March 15, people who have multiple acceptances have to tell each school whether they are keeping or dropping the school. The waitlist begins to move. From March 15th the waitlists are created and the newly empty slots are filled by the waitlist. This is why much of the class comes from the waitlist (and why so many people are dragged along until the next set of offers).

Say Joe wants to go to Harvard and is waitlisted there. He got into MCV and EVMS. On march 15th joe would have to tell EVMS that he doesnt want to go there and hold the MCV slot. If Joe got into harvard in July from the waitlist he would then be able to drop MCV, if he wanted to. So the waitlist will continue to move, albeit slowly, well into the late summer. This domino effect is what takes so long and is so frustrating about the waitlist.

Hey, does MCV get pissed if you call the admissions office?

I have been actually complete since July and haven't heard anything from them. Seems like everyone before and after me has heard....😕

If thats the case, don't bother calling. I thought you had a question about Oct. 16 and how many acceptances they were going to hand out.

Damn 🙁 I am thinking more and more that I got rejected from.

DrVan- It might be worth calling them just to make sure. They are really nice and don't mind calls. Just dont call them every week.

This is only the second year MCV is doing completely computer-based applications. Last year there were a few glitches in the system. I was put in the wrong applicant pool which delayed me going to the Adcom after my interview by 2 weeks!

i agree, i don't think it could hurt to call. if anything, it shows that you're very interested in the school and you want to make sure everything is going ok with your application. unless a school has a specific policy against calling, i say go for it. i think VCU only said don't call to request specific dates, but i dont remember for sure.

I have a question. It's been bugging me.

I got an invite to VCU the second week of September. When I logged in to pick my interview date, the earliest date I could find was Jan 9th of 2007, which seemed kind of odd to me but I went with that date anyway.

Now that I think about it, it is possible that I was supposed to pick the year first before I pick the date. Maybe there were another set of interview dates for 2006 I didn't even see?!?

It is also possible that the school decides when to hold interviews based on what your priority score is. The earliest date for my "score" was Jan 9th.

Anyone have any insights?

hmm...did you check to see if other months were available? if it's the same one i am thinking of, i remember that there was a pull-down menu of months in alphabetical order or something and so there were more dates available than i originally thought. but i could be thinking of a different school.

It couldn't have been alphebetical because Jan was the first one I saw. Unless they don't interview people in Dec or Feb.

Thanks guys, I ended up calling them just a few minutes ago. Apparently I am still out for a review, I guess I got a slow reviewer.

I am sure a lot of you are waiting to hear, they issue acceptances on the 16th right? Good luck everyone, and thanks!!!

So if you got "hold for action", does that mean you will hear a decision Oct. 15?

From what I have gathered, it basically means that you have not been rejected post-interview. After interviews, the committee gives you a score (1-5) and as long as you get below a 3.5, you're still in the running. At this point, the score that the committee gave you puts you on a list and on the days that they accept (Oct. 15, Dec, 15th, etc.) they will accept from the top of that list down. So, if you have a great score then you could possibly hear from them on Oct. 15th. However, you also might end up waiting to hear from them for awhile. Hope that helped...Good luck!

man they are already schedulin interviews for february....seems like they r filling up their spots....contact me plz VCU...

Yay!! I got invited for an interview at VCU! I am so excited!

I only live 2 1/2 hours away and my interview is at 10am so I could drive down the morning of, but I'm wondering if it might be better to stay with a student. I'm torn between wanting to sleep in my own bed and getting the extra experiences of staying with at student. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

EDIT: And I wouldn't worry about not hearing from them yet. It's still early and I had my choice of scheduling in November, December, Jan, or Feb. There were plenty of dates to choose from in November so I think they are just being accomodating and not that they are totally booked. Don't lose hope yet!

I did not stay with a student, and I really didn't feel like I was missing anything. I do recommend driving the night before though, because you are not going to want to drive for that long wearing your suit, and you really are not going to have a good place to change once you get there. You could stay in a hotel and then you would be able to get ready there in the morning, or you could use their student stay-over program. Nobody I talked to had any issues with that. Good luck!

When I interviewed last year, I stayed with a student and it was a great experience. I was coming from Norfolk for a 10am interview, but didn't trust the traffic on I-64. I would recommend it since it's another chance to get some insight on studying at MCV and they can really help you to not be so nervous.

Also, out of curiosity, when were you complete and are you IS or OOS? Just trying to get a feel for how quickly the process is moving. Thanks and good luck on your interview!:luck:

Thanks for the info. I am learning towards staying with someone.

I am in-state, submitted secondary materials on 7/27 and was complete on 8/2. I don't know how helpful this is though since there are plenty of people who were complete after me who have already been interviewed.

I had a friend interview at VCU on Monday. They told him that the people who interviewed during Sept. would have their letters sent out/status updated online on Friday....yes this Friday. Anyone else heard anything like this?

And the story get more interesting.
😕

They may have just been talking about the "hold for action" status changes you already got, and the interviewer did not know that you guys already got them.

Here's what he told me:

He said that he was bummed b/c he had to wait till December 15th. The woman said that they would be sending out acceptances on Friday because the 15th was a Sunday and they could not force people to come in on a Sunday to help with the status changes. Therefore, they would be sending out letters and changing the online status on Friday rather than making us wait till Monday. I don't know how true that is, but the guy who told me is a good friend who would never make something like that up. I guess we will see how wrong (maybe right?) I am in a couple days!

Oh man I hope you're right

:luck: to us Sept/early Oct interviewees!

What time do you think you'd get a status change?

Probably 5:04 PM that's when all their other notices were emailed.

Damn you are right, all my updates were between 5:02-5:04 PM. :wow:

so your telling me that people who have "hold for action" status page updtates right now will know within 25hours if they have been accepted to VCU??!!
