So have you contacted the admissions office or are you just going by those ambiguous messages they send everyone. I think I have yet to meet anyone who was unhappy with the way the admissions office treated them after direct contact. Really everyone in that office is really nice. Also learn to use the word rapport correctly. Even after you were corrected you still used it incorrectly.

The messages are the same year to year, sometime with a little tweaking but always as ambiguous. Last year from what I remember they kept us waiting an extra day or two for acceptances/rejections to come out not just the waitlist. Last cycle was no different from this one or the one 2 years ago. Your 1 year of experience with this process does not give you the right to judge a school, especially since you have seen it from only 1 side.

When you are a student at MCV the administration is great, giving everything you need. They apparently dont feel the need to coddle you as you apply and never have. God forbid a school is curt with you. Stop whining.

LOL

You know what though, MCV seriously is NOT bad at communicating with applicants. I especially remember Mr. Melvin, who was REALLY REALLY nice to me every time I bothered him with something. He even reminded the Dean that my application had been complete for a while (since I had received no response for months). Other schools are far worse than MCV. I interviewed at LLU 3 and a half months ago and STILL no word. I have called them numerous times, but they haven't even given me an anticipated date.

Instigata, I honestly have to agree with you that they are not that bad when I compare them to other schools I have dealt with. I think the problem stemed from the expectation to hear something (as was indicated in their vague message). I know I was anxious and sincerely wanted an acceptance from VCU because I loved the way the students and faculty interacted with one another. It was easier to blame VCU for not giving me some type of answer on March 15 rather than to look forward to a message telling me that I will be on another waitlist or even worse – I'll have to take the MCAT again and reapply.

I completely agree with the last few posts. I applied to 18 schools this cycle and VCU was by far the most polite and supportive of those. Last fall I called the admissions office to check and see if a letter I had sent had made it into my file. It wasn't there, so the guy on the phone went and sorted through their box of mail until he found my letter. He opened it and confirmed with me that it was what I had sent and then put it in my file with me still on the phone. He definitely did not have to do that. Plus, the updates they send us may be vague sometimes, but at least they're sending something. So many of the schools I've applied to have yet to send me any kind of update or notification. So, it's unfortunate if some people are having a negative experience with VCU, but just know that they really are not that bad.

everyone that I have talked to in the admissions office has been very friendly and pleasant. i think ppl are just tired of waiting, that's all. it's frustrating but if someone really hates vcu--go ahead and withdraw your application. you shouldn't compromise your morals. only withdraw if you are instate though...haha.

Thanks for rushing to judgement and making your friendly reply.

I personally apologize for my earlier typo (leaving out a "p" in rapport). I didn't know anyone cared as much on an Internet forum. No, I used rapport correctly in each post.

My posts were not directed at the "ambiguous" status messages. Yes, I have contacted the office (and my interviewer) several times. If you were to ask a member of your class (and a member of the class before you) about my particular situation, I believe they would agree with me: the school has lacked some professionalism in the process. As an applicant, I reserve the right to judge the application process (as does every other applicant on this forum). As a student, you reserve the right to judge the school as a whole. I never said VCU was a bad school. I said I enjoyed a better application experience with other schools. Additionally, I said good rapport was not a priority in the application process. This is my opinion based on my experiences. If you had different experiences, I would expect you to form different opinions. Where is the harm?

I was not "whining" in my earlier posts, nor do I expect to be "coddled" by a school. I do expect them, however, to keep their word (which is not conditional on receiving acceptance). VCU would expect the same of me. If you scroll back in this thread, you'll also see my posts were not specifically-related to the March 15 acceptance release date.

I understand your willingness to defend your school's application process against the "whines" of an outsider. Next time I ask you take time to talk to me, educate yourself about my experience, and then cast judgement. It's not too much to ask, especially of a future doctor.

P.S. Don't expect anyone to agree with me. Most people on this thread are on the VCU bandwagon for fear that the school will discover their online alias.

Instigata, I am sincerely glad you had someone who was interested in keeping open communication lines. Oh, and I love the Shakur avatar.

Wow, I can hear the crickets chirping on this page. Nobody is excited about the waitlists/rejections that will probably go out this afternoon...Not that I blame you guys, especially since May 15th seems like it's a year away.

hahah i agree...i hope I JUST GET waitlisted...i guess after the whole march15th debacle (for most of us on SDN), everyone has just been not putting much hope..BUT I HOPE we get waitlisted..if they are trimming it.i think that could mean we could have a better chance getting off

good luck to everyone! im pulling for all of us!

Rapport, yes. What isn't fair is those who haven't applied this cycle judging my comments about the rapport of this cycle.

Sorry to be a stickler here but this is not used correctly. Rapport, since it signifies a close relationship, must be between one group and another. You can have a good rapport with someone. But you can't say, "Overall, Bob's rapport this year was great." It just cannot be used to modify a noun in this way. Furthermore, since a cycle is inanimate it cannot have a personal relationship with something else. You used it wrong smartypants.

Thanks for rushing to judgement and making your friendly reply.

You're welcome. Here to help.

I was not "whining" in my earlier posts,

Yes you were

I do expect them, however, to keep their word (which is not conditional on receiving acceptance).

Umm... so what promise have they broken?

I understand your willingness to defend your school's application process against the "whines" of an outsider.

Dude, I couldn't care less if you slander the crap out of VCU. I just get annoyed by whining.

Oh, I took my time but after 3 whiny posts I thought it was about time to comment.

Also, Doctors are really judgmental, just like everybody else. Med school teaches you how to become a doctor; it doesn't change who you are.

Sorry for hijacking the thread

anyone hear anything? i guess we will have to wait until later today or friday.
maybe it would be a little better if they just did not mention any kind of time period that way we wouldn't keep anticipating a status change.

Wow. Some interesting posts up there. I'm tempted to make some obvious grammatical errors in hopes someone will sprout out of the bushes to make a quick correction. This isn't a journal, hell it isn't a blog - who the **** cares how intimate you are with your dictionary those long dark nights. If you know what someone is trying to say, why not just leave them alone.

Second, for all you guys out there that have applied to multiple schools and VCU still takes the cake for being the most applicant friendly, I sincerely feel bad for you. I applied last cycle and VCU was MUCH better with maintaining their schedule and fulfilling the obligations they set for themselves. Last year I was notified on March 15 that I was waitlisted, and I was told the same would happen this year as well.

For the last 3 months VCU has failed to meet the expectations of its applicants by failing to meet their deadlines. January 15 rolls around and hundreds of post interview applicants have been waiting anxiously for months to learn of their fate. VCU falls behind and can't update the system with current offers - but they wait until later that evening to finally update its applicants, claiming it's going to be another couple of days.

So, we all wait for another 2 months, and when March 15 finally rolls around we find out that only acceptances are released, and the wait list will not yet be finalized regardless of the fact that I was specifically told differently via phone weeks prior to the 15th. So then we hear "its going to come out mid next week." I guess maybe they meant LATE next week, that is if it even comes out tomorrow?

Who cares if the admissions office is full of smiling happy people when you call or stop by for a quick update if they keep you hanging on the evenings you wait months for? Last year they interviewed almost 300 more applicants than this year yet they were on point with the notification dates. The new admin must truly blow in comparison.

Im sorry, but this is pathetic. They've given out all there offers, and now it takes more than 7 days to determine what priority scores will be added to the waitlist? Please - they arent even interviewing or going to committee meetings anymore! Yet we are still waiting...

Thank god I've been accepted elsewhere. And to think that my interviewer said they thought I'd get an acceptance at VCU back in December..

Well, it looks like it will be another day or days for the waitlist to be notified. I don't know, somehow I'm not surprised, but I don't hate the school because of it. I want to go to VCU because I liked the school and I feel like it will provide me with a good education to follow my dream to become a doctor. Sure, getting told to wait, wait, wait, is no fun, and I have some less than kinda thoughts about the admissions office occasionally, but I think we'll all get over it if we get that acceptance email one day.

Totally agree McSnubbs. VCU has been completely unbelievable this cycle...the disorganization and the lies have only resulted in agonizing waits for many applicants, and it's disappointing given how my first impressions of the administration were so much better.

Very true.

I promise to quit whining if they give me an acceptance.

If you take a week as Sunday through Saturday, then Monday through Friday are right in the middle. That means tomorrow is the last day of the middle of the week.
😛
