hm, i was under the impression that on march 15 you could be rejected via the status update. is this wrong?

if Im waitlisted i will probably email dr. wc to see where on it I am..

I recently completed an MD/PhD interview at MCV/VCU earlier this week, and remember the MD/PHD administrative assistant informing me that ADCOM will be meeting 3/15, and applicants will be notified of their status on the same day. In reference to MD applicants, I recall Dr. W-C saying that the last round of offers will be made 3/15 and the applicants will hear by 3/16 at the very latest (via the website) **I'm assuming this means your status including accepted, waitlist, and rejection since they anticipate taking up to a full day to enter all of this info. From that point, accepted students have 2 weeks to reply. If any spots remain open, individuals are accepted from the waitlist based on their ranking which is determined by the interview score and application score -- the latter relies mainly on GPA and MCAT. The interview score is weighted more heavily when comparing those with similar GPA and MCAT scores... wow I didnt realize I had all of that info in my head. haha. Anyways hope that helps you all! ...And correct me if you heard differently 🙂

btw: MCV/VCU is my first choice!😍

I was reading the FAQ section of VCU's website. I came across this question and thought it was hilarious. The answer they give is just so blunt and dry.

"I attended another medical school and failed my first year. Can I apply to your school?

No."

And they added a period after the No...so it's like a complete sentence.

AtreyuRocks, I interviewed on of the last days of February and *I think* I remember them saying that our files will be reviewed next week...as in this upcoming week.

just wondering, but whens the last interviews handed out? my friend's still waiting for one and i don't want to give her false hope. is there two more weeks, or is it pretty much done right now.

the status page says this...

03/01/2007
It is now the time of year when we must advise many very talented students that we will be unable to schedule further interviews for this season. Within the next few days, many of you will be notified that we are out of interview space.

oh ok, haven't checked the staus page in awhile, thanks. now i got to give some bad news

yea, you mos def could be right... The last MD/PhD candidate interviewed on the 28th, and they were going begin reviewing the applications mar 1. I would like to think that they take about a week or so to review the applicants' files before arriving on their final decisions by mar 15th. best of luck to you!

Hey but seriously, what happened to PugMD????

The interview season technically ended last week. There are a few more very high priority people they are going to interview next week but thats it.

Did they tell you when you should hear about MD/PhD? I interviewed feb. 4, and they said sometime after the med school makes a decision, but they could not tell me a date.
Thanks

Do any of you guys find yourself randomly checking the VCU site for no reason? I think I'm going crazy. Ten days left...and I can't concentrate well enough to study. I loved VCU and really want accepted there, so I'm going nuts. Good luck everyone!

yup, Sandra said that the committee will be meeting on 3/15 and she will be notifying us via the website by the end of the day. good luck!

So is regular MD going to hear on the 15th or 16th? Is it going to be around 5-6 pm?

For MD, I remember Dr. W-C saying that you should definitely hear by 3/16. For MD/PhD, I specifically remember Sandra saying she would notify me via the website on 3/15, immediately after the steering committee meets. I'm guessing this is mostly because of the vast number of MD vs MD/PhD applicants that need to be notified, thus it's going to take Admissions much longer in the case of MD applicants.

i have made a be wit my friend..if i get into MCV, i'mg oing to shave my head and put the picture up...CMON MCV!

Hi All,

I'm new to this thread.

I had basically given up on VCU, given all the posts about Mar 15th decisions, but today I got an email to check the VCU applicant site and got this:

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

Has anyone else received this email recently? Does anyone know how likely it is to get an interview off this list? I figure it can't be too great since I'm OOS and it's so close to decision time. I checked last year's VCU thread but it didn't really help. But if any of you have any info on this, it would be so greatly appreciated.

At the very least, I can contribute to the thread the fact that VCU seems to be interviewing up until the last minute.

I wish you all the best during this hella stressful process.

I received that exact same message and then received an interview invitation about two-three weeks later. However, I think they have finished interviewing (if you check out the latest posts in this thread). Hopefully you'll be granted an interview though! Let us know what happens :luck:

Yes!!! I know that it is very unlikely to find anything of interest before 3/15 but I check anyway, just in case. 😳 It makes me feel like I'm doing something....even if it is futile.

Hello Everyone,

I am also new to this thread and I also just received an email from VCU stating that my status has changed. The wording is different from the previous post but I wanted anyone's interpretation to this updated message I received today on the VCU applicant site.

"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

The strange part is that they say “We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February” but they just informed me today, March 5.

Any thoughts on this?
Is VCU still scheduling interviews or is this a prelude to the inevitable (rejection letter)?

I am certainly not getting my hopes up since I’m OOS but I would still like to receive some feedback from anyone.

Best of luck to all those awaiting decisions…😀

i recieved a call on friday to schedule an interview for this wednesday so dont give up hope yet if you are waiting for an interview.

People in these type of situations: When were you complete? I'm thinking these last spots are being given to people that had their files done a few weeks ago, as opposed to a few months ago.

and the countdown contiues.....9 days for March 15th

9 days...feels like an eternity! Da - I hope you have to shave your head!!! I'm not willing to shave my head but sure would like an acceptance on 3/15!😀

who's psyched for daylight savings?? one less hour of waiting!

I hope we don't crash the website....😳

lol. But wait...if we hear on the 16th (regular MD), that is 10 days. Do you guys know if it is the 15th for sure?

it is supposed to be the 15th or at least that is what they have been telling us since january (but i guess we also have to keep in mind that they pushed back the jan. acceptances by a couple of days at the last minute). i think someone applying for the md/phd program mentioned the 16th, hopefully it only applies to him or her and not the rest of us.

i guess one day doesn't make much of a difference, but the 16th is a friday and that would be a weekend killer right there if there was bad news.

good luck everyone!!!

it might be the 16th because of the sheer number of applicants they have to notify. this is the last date to release offers unless applicants are waitlisted, they set a goal of having everyone go through adcomm before the 15th.

Because Im now obsessed with getting into VCU...I was looking at last years thread, and offers were not made until March 21st! Has anyone talked to admissions lately? Has anyone heard an actual date? God I hope it's the 15th....Im going insane. I think my boyfriend and family are going to kill me soon. LOL

Well, Ill go back to attempting to study for finals.

wait, will they notify everyone all at once? or is it gonna be rolling like the individually notify everyone one by one updated every minute?lol

they tend to release everything at the same time

Dr. WC mentioned that the January 15th posting was moved back to January 16th because of Martin Luther King day. Since there is no holiday on March 15th, hopefully we'll get to hear then.

this is gonna drive me nuts

haha. i drive myself nuts. especially cause i keep checking this thread, and you all are helping me drive myself nuts. it's ok though, it's good to know i am not alone! 😀

Wow, last years thread is sorta depressing. From what people have said this year, however, it seems like many more acceptances will be offered. Most people on the 2006 thread got waitlisted, and a few actually got rejected. Good luck...9 days left. :luck:

do you guys think there are more instate applicants than oos waiting for news next week? i'm wondering whether theres a good chance for oos to get offered a spot

I really hope their is a significant number of oos spots left in the class, since they only take 80 out of 184. I'm from CA. What about everyone else on here? Are you guys in state or out of state applicants?

I would be interested to know the ratio also. When I interviewed at the end of January, there were 2 in state and 8 OOS applicants in my group.

I'm in state.

OOS, CA also. good thing is that after VA res, CA comes second. maybe its cause the "V" is next to the "C" on the keyboard, so we accidentally get accepted 😉. but in-staters mos def have an advantage.... im thinking there weren't so many VA res at the later interviews because they prioritize the VA res... when did you all complete your apps? (me: complete 01/23/07)

yeah ive heard there are quite a few CA residents every year... something crazy like 10% of each class.

My app was complete 12/7/06

I heard the same statistic for CA residents; about 10%

My app was actually complete back in early August, and my interview invitation came at the end of August...for an interview date of 1/4/2007! I thought this was strange, but figured they gave preference to in state people first.

goes with my theory then... thanks for supporting it with some real evidence! 🙂

I wonder if it has ever occurred where the admissions committee denies an applicant post-interview even if the interviewer says nothing but good things about him/her. I sure hope this isn't the case!

it's mos def possible. you could be great, but just not as great as the other applicants. btw: that's just mean, why would you want to make us all worry like that?
