Nothing from UNC, huh? What a bummer. Perhaps it is in the mail???
 
ECU interview invite today!!! finally!!! i was so frustrated. does anyone know how many spots are still open at this point? any advice on the interview?
 
and still no word from UNC- i am so many weeks out (int dec. 8) that i have stopped waiting.
 
I don't know why ECU is taking so long. I turned in my secondary application at UNC 3 weeks after ECU. I had my interview at UNC in early February and haven't even heard if I got an interview at ECU. It would seem logical that if I got one at UNC I would get one at ECU. I called and they gave me the unhelpful answer of we interview through April, no news is good news.

So I just called UNC to ask about my status (interviewed Jan 24, so it's been 6 weeks now), and Lisa told me that they are done interviewing on Friday. Then the admissions committee will be meeting for the rest of March, so the latest I'd hear (and presumably, everyone else) would be end of March, early April.

Thanks for the info. I interviewed with you that day as well and I was wondering/stressing myself a bit. It's nice to know it's almost over ... maybe ...

Very curious about something I have heard 3rd hand about someone waiting to hear back from UNC.

According to them, they got an email saying that "admissions committee is seriously considering your application". Something to that effect.

To the best of my knowledge I have NEVER heard of UNC sending out email telling someone they are under consideration atm. Its either YES, NO or WAITLIST after interview.

Has anyone else recieved a similar email? Or knows of anyone else who has? (quite frankly, its stressing me out a bit). :meanie:
 
I interviewed in mid-November, got an e-mail in late January informing me that they were still evaluating my candidacy, then an acceptance in the mail in mid-February.

Is this what has been referred to as the "do not despair" email that ppl have gotten? Or something different?
 
Anyone know what prompts the letter? If its random and sent to most/everyone or only a select few? (select few who have a higher chance of acceptance?)
 
It's supposed to be automatically generated by their system if you haven't heard anything by the 8 week mark I think.... but their system stinks.

I called to check on my status and they were like, "Didn't you get an e-mail?"... the they sent it to me.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is completely unhelpful, annoying, and means nothing. Just keep waiting!!! 🙂
 
I didn't get the do not despair email either, but I called around the end of Jan and was told a decision had not be made - no mention of an email. I think I may have posted this before, but I also never got the initial email telling me they had received my primary. I called and was told they had sent it, so they ended up sending it again. I am hoping that it's just the bad system and has nothing to do with my 'status' there.
Also, congrats to everyone whose been getting those big packets lately! I haven't been able to check the postings as often these past few weeks so I am a bit behind on my congratulatory posts!

so UNC's 6-8 weeks was just to screw with our heads? its driving me nuts!

I just got the phone call tonight from my interviewer. They did meet on Monday and I got in!!! Third time with UNC was the charm 🙂

HUGE congratulations! This process is hard enough one time, I can't imagine the perseverance for three! Way to go, Vincir and all the recent Wake acceptees too! :luck:
 
Congratulations Vincir!! Did your committe or faculy interviewer call you? What time of day?? I interviewed one week after you did. Maybe I will find out next week!!
 
Out of curiosity, did they call you on a Sunday? I'm assuming that was in regards to the Monday last week?
 
My committee interviewer called me on Sunday. She said they had made a decision earlier in the week but that it had been a busy week for her, so Sunday evening was the time she chose to call 🙂

As to letters of interest, I didn't send one this year, but the Admissions Office has a thick folder on me after this whole lengthy process and the waitlist last year with them, so I think they knew I liked them.

I just called and got the same information from another staff member. Just thought I'd pass along that that is still what they are saying...final decisions made by the end of March. UNC that is...

share you pain, buddy... i interviewed in sept... After meeting a fellow interviewee who claimed to have received her acceptance two weeks after her interview in oct., i kind gave up hoping. im still holding out for unc though, the in-state tuition is a devilish deal!
 
UNC's website says "All other final decisions including ACCEPTANCE, wait-list, and rejection are made and mailed to applicants by April."

They can't reject all of us, right? Just most of us? For the most part though, I agree that we are totally hosed.

Think positive, think positive! As long as that skinny envelope has not arrived there is still hope!
I have had the same thoughts as you a lot lately. Now I just say to myself, " No news is good news." I find that the less I think about it (and check this site!) the better I feel and the more I remember that it is what it is: a committee meeting and deciding - and when the decision is made they'll let me know.
 
I'd feel a lot better about things if they had been sending rejections out right along with the acceptances....

I was trying to 'ignore' that part! But you're right - it is much easier to think positive when you know that rejection letters are being sent regularly.
 
Hey you all, I was accepted to UNC a few weeks back (though I haven't gotten a letter yet for some reason). Congrats to the other acceptees and good luck to those still waiting to hear.
I was wondering if UNC offers any merit based scholarships, and if so: 1) what types of qualifications are needed to be competitive for them, 2) are they only for minority students, 3) when might we hear about them, 4) do we have to submit a FAFSA and apply for financial aid to get merit based awards? I realized I did not submit my FAFSA yet by the Mar. 1 deadline on the UNC website... so I hope that doesn't cause trouble.

...Lol I know those are pretty specific and most of us probably don't know yet as applicants but I just thought I'd throw the questions out there in case anyone had any idea.

Congrats on the acceptance corranh314! I think you should probably call the finaid office. And, if I remember correctly, at the interview you should have received some info on the scholarships they offer and general financial aid info. But, most definitely just give UNC a call and ask.

Thanks. I love it here, and my significant other has a large extended family in the area, so we really want to stay here. Now I need to decide between UNC and Duke, though. It's going to be a much tougher decision than I'd thought it'd be.
