So I get home last night and run to my mailbox of course, and when I get there I open it to find a thin letter from UNC. I start freaking out, convinced that it is a rejection.

I go to open it and all of a sudden I realize that the letter isn't for me... it's just my roommates tuition bill.

ARGH!!

Does anybody know when they are going to send out the acceptances to the out of state students?

A similar thing happened to me. 2 days before I got my actual acceptance I was checking the mail and saw a big manila envelope from UNC. I got excited, then was crushed when I realized that it was my dean's list certificate from fall semester.

Good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear.

Thanks. I love it here, and my significant other has a large extended family in the area, so we really want to stay here. Now I need to decide between UNC and Duke, though. It's going to be a much tougher decision than I'd thought it'd be.

Go to Duke so there will be more room for me at UNC!! Hehe, just kidding. Wish you the best of luck wherever you go.

Sud -
I am happy for you that it wasn't a rejection letter! Hopefully we will hear good news soon.
I also had a similar thing happen. A few months ago I was on my way home from work and my boyfriend called to tell me I had a letter from UNC. I freaked out and told him to read me the return addess. Once he said "Friday Center" I called him an idiot and relaxed - it was confirmation of my online class. I told him he was no longer allowed to tell me if I have mail from UNC!!! I'll see it when I get home.

I'm sure some of you have found the applicantcentral.unc.edu webpage. I look at it from time to time curious if anything has changed. It never does. My status is always, "Applied."

Well, today I checked it out and I can longer check my status at all. I can log in, but there is no icon for application status. Has anyone else experienced this? I realize how neurotic this is, but sometimes you have to ask.

I just went to that page for the first time, and I found a "check applicant status" button. I clicked on it, but it was only in regards to my FAFSA status. Perhaps that is all it was?

Rejected pre-interview from UNC. 🙁 Goodbye 2007 NC med schools application thread...:luck: :luck: :luck: guys....

Yeah, I think they must have pulled the information from the database for some reason. There used to be a link that allowed you to check the status of an application to the law, medicine, or nursing school.

Anyone know if the ADCOMM at UNC will be meeting today?

Thanx

Let's hope that they do!

I have to admit that this news of a rejection scares me a little... when did you get it? I'm sorry to hear...

same thing here.
i'm not concluding anything, though, hard as it is. good luck! :luck:

I think that rejections have been going for out of state people, but not in-state (unless you didn't get an interview, of course).

I called on Friday, and Lisa made it sound like their going to wait on sending out any more acceptances until the end of the month when the committee makes their final decision on everyone. I guess we'll find out if that's true or not tonight or tomorrow if someone gets a call.

Whether it is today or through the month or whenever-- :luck: to all!

...and sud, your story about going to the mailbox and finding a small envelope scared the crap out of me-- yet another reason to dislike bills i guess?!

I just called. He said they are waiting until april at which point you will know if you were waitlisted or declined?!!?! He did not say accepted was an option?! Anyone want to call and confirm what I was just told?

Added about 1 min later because I was freaking out:
I just called back and spoke to Lisa. There are still many acceptances left (around half). But the part about waiting until the first week of April is true.

Half? Really? Why do I feel like that's not really the case...

Dr. Hoole just called me and left me a VOICE MAIL. I MISSED THE CALL!!! But... he gave me his HOME PHONE NUMBER!!!!!

I am so afraid to call back... wanted you all to be the first to know!!!

Let me be the first to congratulate you then! If I have the right sense about Dr. Hoole, he probably just wants to be able to congratulate you in person 🙂

(If I did just stick my foot in my mouth, I sincerely apologize)

Congrats, sud! I guess Lisa was lying when she said nobody else would hear until the end of the month.

Honestly, this isn't surprising at all. I know a few people who applied in earlier years, and this is how UNC does it every year. MOST people don't hear until April. It's technically rolling admissions, but they wait to make most of the decisions until the end - this is at least how I have heard it.

That's what I've heard too.

Did I forget to post that it is indeed official? It is!!!!!!!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooo happy. Good luck to everyone waiting. I had completely given up hope. Hang in there!!

I know you've been waiting a long time, CONGRATULATIONS! 😀

Congrats sud! It seems like your luck has turned around!

On a different note, does anyone know if UNC gives acceptance calls on Tuesday? :|

I think they give the acceptance calls when they have time. If you look at the previous page, one poster got his call on the Sunday after the meeting.
Also, congratulations to sud!

I just talked to Lisa and she told me that the committee will be meeting several times between now and the end of March/beginning of April to make decisions. There are going to be some acceptances, some rejections, and the waitlist will also be established then. Just wanted to give some more information. I have been wating since Nov. 6 (interview day) and nothing yet.

Thanks for the info, but I was wondering what "meeting several times" mean? Does that mean the ADCOMM will be meeting more than once a week until April? I know they met yesterday, but I am wondering if they will meet again before the end of the week.

I tried to ask Lisa what "meeting several times" meant but all she kept telling me is that we will all hear something by end of march/beginning of April. I honestly think they are not telling us everything for a reason. I just don't understand why they just don't tell us the truth.

I think they are afraid one of us neurotic applicants would sue if they told us when the committee was going to meet and the committee happened to not be able to meet on one of those days...

Seriously.

Hey Congratulations on the acceptance, I'm really happy for you. I was wondering if you submitted a "letter of intent"?

I submitted a letter of intent in February, as well as updated transcripts, etc. I think they really do help. Dr. Hoole specifically referenced things I had mentioned in my letter when he called to accept me, so I know he definitely read it.

Did Dr. Hoole interview you?

Ok, so I've never posted before, but I'm an active reader. Anyway, I work with someone, who has a friend that works in the med school admissions office. The woman I work with asked the friend what the deal was and why I haven't heard anything. I interviewed in Feb. btw. The friend said that if I was rejected, I would have probably received the rejection already because as far as she knew rejections had been sent out. The last time the admissions committee met was this past Monday (19th), and again, as far as she knew, this is the last time they meet for acceptances and if I didn't get a call Monday or Tues about being accepted, then I am most likely on the waitlist. But, then I called the admissions office, and Lisa said that final admissions decisions will not be made until late march, early april. I didn't tell her that I had an inside source that said otherwise. I'm not sure who's right. Also, people have been getting random snail mail and calls lately. So, I think there is still hope.

I swung by the admission's office today and Ms. Lisa Long said the same exact thing to me, that the final decisions are going to be made by the end of this month, and according to a previous post she also mentioned "I just called back and spoke to Lisa. There are still many acceptances left (around half). But the part about waiting until the first week of April is true." So, I'm hoping there's definitely hope left for the people who're waiting.

I'm not positive, but I believe UNC did accept several people in late April. As we got into May, though, people were either waitlisted or rejected. For what it's worth, there's still hope for those of us waiting. As for knowing who to believe, I'm not sure what to think. I think the admissions committee has a protocol that they TRY to follow, but they are obviously don't follow it to the t. This likely goes for almost all schools.

Waiting's very stressful...end of story....Quick question: Most of the people waiting, have you guys garnered admission to any other medical schools?

I do have 1 acceptance and thus cannot completely relate. However, I do empathize with everyone waiting on that 1st acceptance, as I got denied everywhere last year.

Well I don't really have much input as to the timing of remaining decisions since I'm as in the dark as everybody else but I do have this anecdote I thought I'd share:

yesterday I got a call from an unknown Chapel Hill-area phone number. I looked at the number and thought 'Wait, really-- could this be it?!?' I answered, the woman started talking.... and she proceeded to let me know that the running shoes that I recently ordered in my size are now available at the store.

Sigh. What a buzzkill.

Here's to keeping the faith still-- :luck: everybody

yeah, a couple.
but i love UNC like a crazy woman with a deep and abiding love for UNC.
it's an asymmetrical relationship.

1 other. But last year I didn't get into any, so I know that feeling well also. But UNC is still far and away my first choice.

Did anyone else pass some invisible patience threshhold? I was patiently waiting until like 8 days ago where I all of a sudden became obsessive over this...I would enjoy like 30 minutes without it popping into my head.
