Do you guys think it helps at all to show your face around the admissions office? Do you think anything would help at this point?

Also, I talked to Eric earlier today to ask about the whole phone call thing. He basically said that if you were interviewed by an attending then they probably won't be calling you. I think he was giving me a line. . .

Does anyone else feel like last years thread looks like ppl were just getting WL/reject at this point in time???? I'm getting worried!!!!😱

... I am sort of tempted to camp out by the doorway and then introduce myself to Dean Hoole whenever he chooses to appear--and then, you know, go through my whole spiel about why I would be such a great addition to bla bla bla bla. Is that crazy talk? I feel like I literally am going crazy....

Um, you might shoot yourself in the foot, I'd be a little annoyed by someone like that. Maybe emails with a purpose, so that they are familiar with your name and situation or whatever. Not like Hey what up, but more like a well-thought out question that you haven't had a chance to ask, then a Thank you email, and whatever else it takes... much less likely to get you a restraining order than camping outside the office and pouncing on the guy !
Good luck! :luck:

This is not looking good!!! I looked at the application thread from last year, and everyone from April onward until mid-May got waitlisted or rejected. And the letters didn't even go out until late April. Moreover, folks on the waitlist weren't offered an acceptance until around 5/18.

Not good at yall!

This freakin' sucks! 🙁

I am also surprised at the number of people that I on last year's thread that are also posting on this year's thread. D*mn! you all are die hard about UNC! I applied last year, but I wasn't nearly as neurotic last year as I am now.

I hope we all get in this time!

Ah yes, UNC and the town of Chapel Hill. You don't have to be crazy to live here, but it sure helps in trying to fit in with the locals 😀

This thread is officially not making me feel better any more.

So no in-state applicants have found out if they were rejected or not right? Only acceptances? I wish I kept my rejection letter from last year to see when they sent it!

I purposely kept mine from last year, but I will have to wait until I get off of work to go find it. I thought about framing it and putting it next to the acceptance letter I AM GOING TO GET this year.

Anyhow, I will post it later today.

Did anyone hear from UNC yesterday?

Oh, by the way, next Monday is the last committee meeting.

How do you know this? Seems like there is SO much conflicting info these past few days, I am getting confused....

Yeah, I spent some time reading last year's thread this morning. They went through the same thing we did. Conflicting information, delays, more adcomm meetings, then it was only for WL and rejections, then after that it was for all three statuses. It was exhausting to read because it is the same thing we've all been going through and I felt like I was right there with them.

I don't think that the messages are too conflicting. It seems like the last decisions will be made this week and next week. Letters (WL, R, last acceptances) will be sent out the 1st and 2nd week of April after the last committee meeting. However, after reading last year's thread, letters may not come until late April (DELAYS! DELAYS! DELAYS!).

For anyone interested, here's a link to last year's thread (thanks to takeachanceonme):

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=204125

Since I haven't heard of anyone recieving a phone call yesterday (committee did meet yesterday), then it seems accurate to say that the ADCOMM is not making anymore phone calls to applicants.

I think the ADCOMM is scrambling to make decisions, and they have a whole batch of applicants they have not decided upon yet.

If you look at other threads, you will see that they have already rejected several people. However, I don't know if these rejections are post-interview. So, no new is still good news. Well, this is true at least until mid-April. After that, WLs and Rs galore! At some point in April, applicants will be able to call into the Admissions Office to find out their status. Those that are WL'd are going to have to wait until after the May 15 AMCAS deadline for students to withdrawal from UNC. Only then, will people start coming off the WL.

 So, to answer your original question: "How do I know that next week is the last ADCOMM meeting?" Well, it is because I heard it from someone outside the Admissions Office. 😕 Confused? I know! I don't want to give too much info and accidently reveal my source, but I believe my source has more credibility than any of the people in the AO who have been sending us mixed messages.

I guess that's it for now... let's just hope I am wrong about this...🙁

Yeah Yeah Yeah... i waste my life sitting here looking at this thread. Even when I am the only one posting.

However, I do have a question. How many of you are applying to UNC for the second time? third time?

This is my second time. But last year I pretty much knew I was a long shot so I wasn't too stressed about it.

Second time. The last time (2 years ago) I was waitlisted, told I was in 1st tier, and then never heard from them again. Never even got a rejection letter. I figure, they can't demote me, right? I have to be at least WLed, right? Right? Please?

Bobodr, I think you are right about the class being filled. I interviewed in mid-February and am holding a shred of hope that I still might hear something from UNC. But after going through the posts in last years thread, March 20th or 21st was about the end of the acceptances. Everyone kept waiting for a big batch of acceptances to come out in early April, but the last of the decisions were for waitlists and rejections. I don't want to be pessimistic and am really hoping I am wrong. Of course, everything is not necessarily the same from one year to the next, but does anyone a part of this process last year want to weigh in? Sally, bust, seethrew???

+pissed+ ah...this just captures everything that i am feeling right now

In response to my question to how many seats are left, Lisa explicitly told me yesterday that they will continue to give out some acceptances. She didn't know how many.

I think we all need to take a deep breath. It's going to be ok (I hope). 🙂

YES! Glad to see there are more second-timers like me.

So this thread became the unofficial "UNC only" thread essentially for the past couple weeks. As far as I can tell Wake and Duke are done (I didn't apply to either). So who else is waiting on (or heard from) ECU? I am.

I know Duke is finished... I am waiting for ECU and UNC.

I interviewed for ECU on 10/11 and still haven't heard one way or the other. How about you? I am also still waiting on UNC.

I actually interview there April 10. There was a "snag" with the 3rd academic recommendation that ECU requires which put me behind in getting my completed app to them. By "snag" I mean that a professor took forever to send it. I'm post bac so the whole committee thing really didn't work for my situation. So anyway, we'll see how that goes in couple weeks.

I interviewed at ECU beginning of February. I called but they're still deciding stuff. Since they're interviewing until the end of April, I guess it's going to be a while before we hear from them.
Oh, and to add to the UNC fire, I just stopped by the office and spoke with Lisa Long. She said that the week of April 9th would be when they're trying to send out letters, but it could be the week after. She said the committee was still meeting through next week.
I think I trust Lisa on this. She sounded like she had more information. I'll still be calling on Friday though.

Yeah that does sound pretty concrete. On the one hand this is killing me...however, on the other, I have to think that continued deliberation is a good thing...at least not a bad thing.

I interviewed at ECU in Feb...still havent heard. I am still waiting for ECU, UNC, and couple out-of-state schools. Just waiting and posting on various threads. Hmmm, at work and waiting!!!

Good luck to everyone-- i hope we all get in somewhere!! UNC!!! ECU!!! anywhere!:luck:

I'm with you guys on the waiting at ECU. I interviewed on Feb 20th. Good luck,

G

This is a bit premature, but when the waitlists at UNC and ECU are formed, have they been known to give a ranking if one calls and inquires?

I don't know about UNC, but ECU won't tell you anything. When they pull off the waitlist it seems to be based on who gave up their acceptance. If a white male drops, it's replaced with a white male. If a black female drops, it's replaced with a black female. I know people are ranked, but you're pulled off the waitlist based on the persons spot to be filled.

Looking at previous year's threads it appears that UNC will not tell you your actual position. You are grouped into 3 tiers of 15 people and you are told which tier you are in. I'm not sure how they pull from each tier. If they went in order of tier 1, 2, then 3 then they wouldn't need them, they could just rank 1-45. So there must be something different about how you are pulled from them.

Hi you all, I just joined SDN, and was accepted to UNC back around early March. I'm leaning heavily towards going there versus out-of-state, so I've got my fingers crossed for the rest of you guys who haven't heard yet. I'm sure that there are acceptances left... it's not even April!

:luck: Best of luck.

PS - Not that we should put any stock in rankings, but judging from the 2008 USNEWS thread, UNC is holding down its position at #20. 🙂

When I was waitlisted two years ago, they told me only that I was in the top tier. From an old thread I saw regarding the same year I was waitlisted, they have three tiers of 15 people each. I've also heard (but I can't back it up with anything so take it with a huge grain of salt) that Dr. Hoole makes the decision of who gets in off the waitlist, so I'm thinking that he probably just goes through the tiers in order until they're filled up.
What sucks is that from that same thread, it looks like they took 6 out of the 15 people in that first tier. I was so close!

I wonder how successful reapplicants are at UNC. Does anyone have any idea?

Judging by the other reapps here, I'd say we're all going for "very."

The waiting is killing me too. I am waiting on both UNC and ECU. I talked to Sheila Lee( ECU Admissions Office) and she told me that ECU might not finishing making decisions until the end of April and early May. I am about to go crazy over this.

Who's calling tomorrow to check up on their application status??!?!?!?! I think I'm just going to wait for the SNAIL MAIL.

I'll be the sacrificial lamb. Anyone want to bet that they'll tell us all nothing new? Come on, any takers. Oh well. I guess we all will just have to hang tight. Good luck to everyone!

Don't bother calling today. I called UNC to see if decisions are out today, and Eric apologized for the mistake of telling people the decisions would be ready today. He said they'll be ready in approximately two weeks.

OHHH GOD! It's 9:06 a.m..........Admissions Office phone lines are about to go heywire

OH! Isn't that lovely??!?!?! So much for that... Here's to another two... I mean... three... or four weeks!!! 🙄

Thanks for calling in.

Thanks for calling in. Not too surprised that this is the case, however I was still hoping!

I called in too, and was told the same thing. I asked if there were still spots open and he said, "Yes, you will hear about acceptance and waitlist." (and presumbaly rejection, although part of me likes to hope and dream that he saw something in my application file about not being reject 🙂 ). So two more weeks! The stress of waiting is killing me.

Does that mean that we have two more weeks until all decisions are made? Or two weeks until all the letters are sent out? Huge Difference! I would hate for them to say in two weeks that all the decisions have been made, but they won't be sending out letters until later.

I was wondering how all of you feel about ECU??? I got into Brody about 5 weeks ago and I wanted to ask you what you thought of the school.

I don't mean to sound pretentious and finicky, but I am not too excited about attending ECU. I am grateful that the ADCOMM thought highly enough of me to accept me, but I do not know if I will fit well in this environment.

First, I am a resident of Chapel Hill but originally from Baltimore. So, I think it is going to be tough living in a rural environment after living most of my life in a big metro area. Also, I have tons of lab experience at research schools (Hopkins, UNC, Harvard, MGH) and in industry (BD, CIIT) with a couple of publications. I would like to continue down this path and eventually become a physician scientist.

I guess I am afraid that since Brody puts such an emphasis on primary care, I will not have the same kind of opportunities to explore my interests in translational research.

I would definitely like you all to weigh in on this issue.
