Hi guys --

My AMCAS was processed on June 13th. Since then, I've done a handful of secondary apps. However, it seems from reading on here that I haven't heard from some of the schools that I applied do that DON'T screen -- but these schools have contacted some applicants and invited them to complete secondaries.

Should I be worried about this? Should I contact the schools that I haven't heard from?

Also, for those of you who are also applying DO, is AACOMAS taking forever with everyone? Or am I just special? I submitted my application awhile ago and haven't heard anything since.

Hey Huey, I haven't gotten the BU secondary yet, either. I guess they'll get it to us eventually.

Info I received from calling:

Harvard's secondary will be available by the end of this week, and they begin interviewing in October.

Stanford's secondary will be available by the end of July, and they begin interviewing in mid-October.

Hey,

so I guess Einstein updated the app. page:

https://www.aecom.yu.edu/admissions/admissionApplication.asp

now it looks like it's for the 2009 applicants, which is good. However, it explicitly says not to submit unless you've been invited to do so, so I wouldn't get overexcited. Also, it looks like the photo upload doesn't work.

So basically it's not terribly useful except you get to take a look at the application, which is nice. And no essays! Unless you answer "yes" to one of their yes/no questions.

hmm..stanford takes a while....

anyone hear anything about duke or northwestern?

Looks like an easy app, except I qualify for one of the essays.🙁 Though I guess it's not bad, since I've been using one just like this again and again. I'm so sick of secondaries already. Almost halfway done...thank goodness.

I plan to take off this year, after just having graduated, while I make application to medical school
(explain what you plan to do this year and please provide confirmation of your plans when they are complete)

How does one provide proof/confirmation? My plans for the next year are mostly working odd jobs, keeping up with some personal hobbies, etc. Nothing really tangible...

Duke's secondary will be available "within 2 weeks" according to somebody else who called the office. I don't know when they start interviewing.

on temple's page, it says they will be sending out secondaries on july 15th and not before. Just curious how you got the invite already? Not hating, just wondering...

Temple thread made

I have not gotten the BU secondary either 🙁

I initially struggled with that on some of my secondaries as well. I'm planning on going to some conferences as part of my job as a clinical research assistant, but that doesn't mean that it's necessarily going to happen. I also plan on going to Nicaragua for a medical mission trip in February, but that could fall through as well.

I think the purpose of the question is just to see that you've thought about good activities to participate in for the upcoming year. They know that whatever you list is tentative and it's possible that the plans could fall through. Just answer the question honestly and you'll be fine. :luck:

I got Tufts!! I don't see the info up. Am i the first!? Shemarty, I will PM you with the info.

I just got into Vermont's online application service, but I don't see the link on it to fill out the seoncary. When are they going to let us do so?

Go to the online application service and set your password. When you FIRST login, it won't let you fill out the secondary. I went back 60 seconds later and the secondary was there. Try it again!

Thanks! BTW, I totally killed the word "secondary" in my last post. That's what Tuesday morning at work will do to ya. heh

How long does it take to recieve secondaries? My AMCAS are verified but I've only recieved secondaries from schools that send automatically.

How long is everyone taking to complete these? I'm really trying to get myself re-motivated at the moment 😀

I got Mount Sinai 2ndary today...anybody else? I thought for sure I'd get pre-sec rejection from MSSM...

Looks like theres no essays either.

Actually there is one optional Essay

Are you interested in being considered for the Rural Medical Scholars Program?
web_required.gif
If so, please answer the following essay question: Please describe why you are interested in rural health care, including why you feel practice in a rural or smaller community would be a good fit for you and what in your experience leads you to believe this is so.

Is that like a scholarship thing or a special subprogram?

Anyone else having trouble with page 3 of SUNY Upstate's secondary?

I got an email from NYU this morning inviting to do their secondary but I cannot log in. It keeps saying my AMCAS ID does not match my email addresss....when it obviously does, or else I would not have gotten their e-mail. Anyone else having this problem?

On the SUNY upstate secondary login, you have to put an A before your AMCAS #.

What's the link for the NYU secondary? I got an email but the text shows up jumbled.

I think someone asked this already... but are you putting the year as listed on AMCAS or your transcript?

I didn't get it either. I'm jealous! NYU's one of my top choices!

I did get University of Vermont (finally!) and Tufts today. I already turned both of them around, leaving just five in my queue! 👍 It's nice to finally get somewhat caught up.

Okay, I just tried to log in to NYU's secondary application, and I was able to access it. You have to click where it says "click here to verify your account and create a password." Then you enter your AMCAS ID and email, and it sends you a temporary password. When you log in with that temporary password, it asks you to make a new one. I did that and it let me in to the application. Here's some more info:

NYU Secondary Login Page

Why have you chosen to apply to NYU School of Medicine? (1500 chars max)

Where do you see your future medical career? (Choose from "Academic medical," "Research," "Health Care Administration," "Private Practice," "Public health," "Business/Law," "Other")
Why? (1500 chars max)

If you have taken any time off or have graduated, describe what you have done during this time? (1500 chars max)

I didn't see the info on LORs - it's probably on the second page, but I don't want to start completing it until I've been invited. It's one of those that you can't save as you go - you have to fill it out at once and submit it then.

Mine was submitted on June 4th, status still "submitted only" on AACOMAS. It's super slow i guess. I pretty much forgot about DO cuz I've been so busy with the massive secondaries from MD.

How many secondarys have you guys submitted so far? I submitted 19, received 22 and am about half way through this part of the process.

Submitted 6, received 7, and about 50% through, too. (14 total schools)

There's been a lull this past week...

I was wondering the same thing as well. I've submitted 14 (including Mayo) and received 18. There are 4 sitting in my inbox that I've yet to get started on. Since I've gotten the easy ones out of the way I'll have to get moving on these last 4 ASAP. I'm still waiting on receiving 11 more, I applied to 29 schools total.

Halfway done with secondaries (and no rejections yet)!

Actually I've received at least one secondary every business day since June 26th except for Monday, but I received two secondaries on Tuesday to make up for it. 😉 I have a feeling the remaining secondaries will be spread out a bit more, maybe over the next month or so.

Five out of the 7 were just available online on their own. The other 2 I got the week after AMCAS first sent the apps to the schools. Absolutely nothing since then. 🙁

4 out of my remaining 7 screen, so those will take a bit longer, I guess.

According to my MSAR (2007-2008 edition), only 4 of the 11 schools that I'm waiting for screen (EVMS, Indiana, Loyola, and WVU). Hopefully I won't get those other 7 until next week so I can be all caught up by then. It's really annoying having a constant backlog.

Loyola screens??? well then 7 for me...UCLA, EVMS, Indy, loyola, wayne, UNC, and Iowa
