so tell me hurricane... do you love me?? are you playing your love games with me?

if i get accepted to ucla, we'll have to crack open a fresh bailey's. and deal with naysayers the way i dealt with curly jefferson.

Hi all,

Early this week, I submitted an update email to the admissions office (I interviewed in mid-November). I received a reply that said the majority of statuses will be sent after February 15. Just FYI.

We could do some watercolors together. You and I.

What email address did you use to submit the update email?

Thanks

All those cost of living estimates are greatly inflated. Tuition is about 21k, housing is about 1000/month (includes all utilities). That leaves 20k of unaccounted for costs of attendance. Textbooks, of which there are few mandatory ones, are prob 700$ max/year.

The 5k automatic grant is just for the first year.

this is in response to some of the discussion on $$$$ a few pages back...so sorry if that conversation-ship has sailed...im personally pretty concerned about $$$ so here is some input on aid...

i'm a first-year now at ucla. my parents are both engineers and live in the bay area--so i would guess middle class income (??). this year i got $25,078 (includes the 5000 transitional scholarship, and $8500 subsidized fed loans) in aid. i took out $5000/semester in unsub stafford loans, and it seems like it should be more than enough (knock on wood) to cover my expenses until the end of the school year. i live in a studio in univ housing (its swank!!) and pay $1063+80 (for parking) a month. i turned down a full-ride+stipend to come here but i think its TOTALLY worth it...🙂

its true that the 5K scholarship is just for the first year, but there really are many scholarship options available in the future years (as well as opportunities to earn money over the summer)...i really think i get a good bang for my buck at this school and despite having to be a little more on top of my budget that i was when i was working (i worked for a year before medschool) am really happy with my lifestyle (in terms of where i live, how often i can go out (eating well is really important to me!!) etc...--and i fly pretty often to visit my boyfriend in norcal....) --if i can maintain my current budget i'll graduate with ~ 40K in unsub loans and <40K in subsidized loans (my goal).

hope this is encouraging. congrats to everyone who's gotten in!! i hope to see you guys at second look. i don't come on sdn often so in case there is any follow-up on this post i apologize in advance if i miss it. to everyone else GOOD LUCK!!!:luck::luck::luck: i still remember what it was like in your shoes...i interviewed around this time at ucla last year =D

You are probably right...🙁

Why doesn't UCLA just say that they have non rolling admissions and come out with all decisions in March...

Yea that really pisses me off, first I was told early january, then mid january, then February 5th, then "mid-february after the adcoms meet," and now it's looking like March.

Seriously UCLA, why must you outright LIE to your applicants? Like I have said before, Baylor is the ONLY school that has kept it's word so far with "we don't know when we will get back to you." Is it so hard to just tell us that UCLA?

Despite my hatred for them right now I would still drop everything to be given a chance to attend.

No dude, it has to be April 1st so they can send you an acceptance letter congratulating you on blablabla, then hit you with a giant APRIL FOOLS on the second page, followed by the rejection letter and the middle finger for making you wait so long and repeatedly lying about the date like real professionals do.

Very true... heck, I would even pay OOS tuition to attend:laugh:

Question: Why does my UCLA page say "Transcripts: requested" ? Are the AMCAS transcripts not enough? Do we have to send them an additional copy of our transcripts post-interview pre-decision?

Hm, I thought it was post-acceptance that they required official transcripts.

They ask for transcripts post-interview, but only require them sometime before you matriculate I believe.

So...what's the most recent date for sending out decisions that they've said? This whole waiting thing really sucks...

Also...how sure are we about the 2nd look date?

So I timed myself and it takes me 2 minutes to walk from my lab to the admissions office.

Apparently the next round will go out either late February or Early March...

No doubt...is it really that hard to just let some people know?...I mean they must have a good idea about some of us...

They keep pushing it back...so not rolling admissions.

Exactly as I posted:

funkydrmonkey: When is the new batch of decisions going to come out?
Admissions Office: Late February or Early March.
funkydrmonkey: Is this going to be a bigger batch or will it be like the previous batches?
Admissions Office: It will be all decisions. (I am guessing by this she means acceptances, WL and rejections, not physically all of the decisions.)

Oh and apparently Ian from the admissions office knows my name... I do not know if this is a good thing or a bad thing...

Yo funkymonkey did you happen to ask about any more invites for interviews going out? I'm still praying for my first cali invite!!:scared:

Wow. I will still wait for this decision, but they are honestly treating us like **** and I dont want to go to a medical school that treats its future students like they are so unimportant that a deadline can be pushed back 5 times. If I even get accepted it will take some serious convincing to undo this ill will.

Even if my letter is soaked in the gutter, and covered in manure and I have already moved to another place, and the day before orientation they accept me, I will come😀

My self worth died after Mayo rejected me...

Naw...you didn't really want to go here....trust me...UCLA is a MILLION times better than Mayo...plus there's sun and ocean and palm trees and all that good stuff.

anyone know the e-mail address of the admissions office so I can inquire about my secondary app? Thanks!

Dun dun dun thats this coming weekend. Although the way this is worded means it could be from this Sunday until the apocalypse.

I still hope on the Feb 23 prediction, since that is when decisions came out the last two years 😉

I'm so scared! I want to know my decision, yet I don't!

I have been waiting so long for it, that I just wanna know... if they do not want me, then fine, I'll go somewhere else, but still, just freaking tell me!

That being said... please accept me:scared:

So I get 2 missed calls on my cell phone this morning.. it's a 310 number. I decided to call it back and it's the UCLA Med School line... wth? Nobody left a message or anything. Anyone know why UCLA would be calling me? I haven't received an interview invite or anything yet. 😕
