so i just checked my status and it said "letter sent" today, 2/18. Admissions office said that it could be anything, meaning an acceptance, waitlist, or rejection, so anything goes...

I live in NorCal so I should get the letter in a couple of days.

I just got it too. Waitlists AND acceptances? What about rejections? I wonder what they meant. Thanks for telling us.

Yep my status has been updated. Everybody go check.

I'll see you on the waitlist neopologist, save seat for me haha.

I know that I said I wouldn't post again until April, but I just checked my status, and it says final decision sent today. Looks like I may be the first waitlist of the season.

Everyone else please check to see if your status changed too....

I just called the admissions office, and they said they just started sending out all final decisions today including post interview waitlists.

crap...letter sent 2/18
status just updated within the last hour
interview early nov..
so sad if it's a waitlist..

just checked too, final letter sent today

i interviewed 1/14

Letter sent. I interviewed early December...sigh, here I come waitlist/rejection. God, I hope we are wrong and that some of these are acceptances (though that doesn't really make sense if they sent out a batch of acceptances last Friday).

Ok...painfully optimistic here...but...maybe they just didn't get through them last Friday and so they just waiting to do the rest today?...or maybe they just kept mailing them and didn't update the website until today?...seems like some people got letters like the day it changed and all...so...who knows right?

Except, their's said letters sent on the 13th. So it made sense that they would get them by the time they updated the website on the 16th. Our's say sent on the 18th. I can only hope that they didn't send out all the acceptances then.

First time posting...

Status changed too. Here's hoping some of these are acceptances. I'm in the area so I should know tomorrow.

Good luck, everyone.

Thank goodness my letter has been sent, now I can stop checking this thread incessantly.

anyone not get a status change?

we all can't be waitlisted/rejected...right? there has to be some acceptances in this batch. hoping at least.

Letter sent 2/18 too! I'm glad for closure but not very confident, I think it's likely these are rejections and waitlists. Good luck everyone!!!

Which is why I feel like all of us who have been waiting for so long without a decision are doomed to the waitlist. Of course this doesn't apply to people who have interviewed in the new year.

i hope to god that is true. my status just changed too. Really wishes for CA acceptance.... need to stop getting waitlisted!!

Two friends who interviewed in the Fall don't have the letter sent.

Hmm......

Speculations???

Where's the time machine when I need it?

No clue... But I am hoping it means better news for those of getting the letter sent today. Maybe acceptances and waitlists only so far? Trying to stay optimistic.

I don't think they are trying to trick us...I'll take their word that it is a mix of acceptances, waitlists, and rejections (though heavier on the last two).

Last year it looks like they didn't send any mixed decisions until 3/18 (everything up till then was just acceptances)... so at the very least I'm thankful I didn't have to wait that long!

My hypothesis (or, honestly, wild-a** guess 😳) is that they send acceptances in a batch once/month after the adcoms meet. Those of us with this 2/18 letter are destined for the waitlist/rejection pool (optimistically, a select few may also end up with an acceptance). People without a "letter sent" may still be above a cutoff score for the WL and are in the running for the next batch of acceptances that will be sent out mid-March.

All of which is pure speculation or, as my friend calls it, "magical thinking". 🙄

Nothing wrong with a little magical thinking...anything that helps eh? I mean...if I could somehow magically think myself into UCLA...I'm all for trying it.

I (unfortunately) wholeheartedly agree. We get to be on the waitlist BUT we also dont have to wonder anymore. So good and bad.

Congrats to everybody accepted, and good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

Just a reminder to post on the ACCEPTANCE THREAD if you're accepted. The data's helpful for next year's cycle 🙂

Don't forget that there is a hold list too, which is a step below the waitlist but above rejection. I think those of us who got the letter sent today are either accepted/waitlisted. I bet holds and rejections will come out later.

They could have just evaluated all the applicants from the previous batches who weren't good enough to get in then but are now. There have to be a ton of good applicants who interviewed from Sept-Jan but did not make the small batches. I still see a waitlist decision coming for most of us, but a lot of you guys have good stats! I wouldn't be surprised to see a few acceptances out of us.

So besides n3opologist's two friends, has anyone else NOT had a status change? (excluding late interviewees)

I interviewed 11/14 and have letter sent 2/18

hello i have been reading this thread once in a while. could someone please briefly explain the logic behind the hypothesis that earlier-sent letters are acceptance and later-sent letters are waitlist/hold? thanks very much!

That's just the way it has been happening in the past few years (and seemingly this year). You can confirm this by going to the previous years threads.

I'm not going to put my hopes up.

Waitlist at the very, very best.

I interviewed in November and don't have a status change...

Just got the letter sent status(interview 12/9, letter sent 2/18). Looks like Im heading to UTSW(I dont got much hope on Harvard since that interview was so so and my Baylor and UCSD interviews are so late in the cycle that they are probably for waitlist spots).

Anyways, it was a pleasure ppl. Congrats to all those ppl that got acceptances. But for those ppl that are debating between UCLA and some other great school, remember that LA is a modern day “Sodom and Gomorrah”; its smog is the leading factor for lung cancer in LA, it is the gang capital of the US, and for the guys out there, there is a high chance that a woman you meet in LA may actually be a man(and same with the guys for the SDN ladies)🙂.

I just called the admissions office and the woman who answered the phone said that the group that is coming out includes everything, and so I asked, does it include acceptances too?, and she said, everything, and I asked, does that mean there are some acceptances in this group? and she finally said, yes. (But it wasn't easy to get that yes from her, whatever that means.)
So don't write off UCLA just yet. Assuming she is not lying, some of you should get some good news. And for those of you who are waitlisted, lots of people come off the waitlist as well. Have heart. And good luck.

Even though I doubt I'll get in, Paradisedoc, you are my hero for giving me a sliver of hope.

I'll probably be joining you at UTSW since my luck seems to have run out (last 5 decisions have all been waitlists...) Good luck and I have a paper to write.

Wow...I just got the same status update. Who knows? I'm hoping that, since I interviewed on 1/27, I may be getting some good news. My student interviewer seemed to think that I was a great applicant and interviewee as well, and I'm sure she has a good idea of just how competitive the applicants are.

Well, once I get my letter, I'll let everyone know. Until then...

You had a student interviewer? I didnt know they did them. Was that your only interview, or did you also have a faculty interviewer?

From I was told by the british dude when he handed me my packet on interview day, there is no benefit or drawback to having a student interviewer. They schedule them if they can mostly as a courtesy to you since they don't put in any effort for their interview day.

Buuuut, knowing how UCLA works.. that could all be a bunch of BS. Who knows.

i'm gonna be the only one left here without a letter sent

I believe that I've heard the same thing. In fact, most of the MS1's I spoke to had only a faculty interviewer, and nearly all said that their interview was terrible.

I'd have to say the same thing, which is why I am glad that I had a student interviewer. My faculty member seemed fairly detached and very much by-the-numbers when it came to the interview. Then again, this person was a surgeon, so perhaps that is in their nature. The student was much warmer and more welcoming, I think.

Heres what Im guessing:

Ppl like Shout that interviewed recently(ie within last month) and got status change= Acceptance
Ppl like me that interviewed at least a couple months ago and got status change today = Waitlist/rejection
Ppl that interviewed at least a couple months ago and no status change = either they lost your app or the neccessary reviewers havent met yet.

Anyone want to take me up on this?

Let's all be positive! It could be an acceptance. Last year's thread had this talk going on in March, around the 18th. So sure, it could be all waitlists like it was last year in march, or it could be all acceptances and the waitlists are coming out in march as it did last year. The lady on the phone (whoever that is) has said like three times that it includes acceptances. Why would she lie? Ever think that the accepted people feel weird about posting I WAS ACCEPTED!!!! when everybody else is saying they were waitlisted? I know that I did not even post until today for almost three months, and I had good news about the interview etc. So you never know. We'll see. I'm sure there is at least some small chance. Don't worry too much.

i unno if i can deal with any more false hope

I'd be willing to put money on these predictions.

Eh...I'm hesitant about it. Specifically...

I have a friend who interviewed shortly before I did at UCLA (I believe four or five days before, certainly less than a week). They got their acceptance a few days ago.

It could be that, given the short amount of time, they just didn't get to us really late January interviewees in time. But I really don't want to count my chickens before they hatch.

I do think, however, that this round cannot have too many rejections. After all, don't they interview through April? It certainly has to consist mostly of acceptances and waitlistings.

OK, enough speculation on my part! I'll just wait till the letter gets in.

i'm scared... will someone hold me? (and take my midterm tomorrow for me while i sleep in)

Hey everyone. I went by the admissions office today after seeing the "letter sent" on my status page. I asked Ian my status, and he told me the news. I am WAITLISTED. He said that every year they accept 200 people before the waitlist and about 100 accept the offer and matriculate.

They then fill the remaining 20-30 spots with waitlist people who come from a list of around 100 people.

They don't consider the list till May, and once on the list, everyone is reevaluated. Our current ranks are erased. They take people off the list up until late July. He said don't get your hopes up since majority don't get in off the waitlist, but I could have told him that given my chance is now about 25%.

He said there were a fair amount of rejections sent out, so I shouldn't be too upset. Whatever, it is what it is. I hope to see some acceptances here for all you great people, and for those who are considering not going, please don't go if your heart isn't init, because I know for a lot of us, ours is.
