Thtas exactly what she told me but she also added that decisions "would be posted tomorrow morning" without saying "probably"

hahahah, i think we have taken 'freaking out' to a whole new extreme. best of luck to you whenever you hear your decision!

So, I've been on pre-interview hold since 10/16, and I was wondering if anyone thought a Letter of Interest/Intent would help (I suppose I can't do a letter of intent since I haven't even interviewed, but if I got into UCSD I am 1000% sure I wouldn't go anywhere else...)

my only problem with a letter of interest is that I haven't really done anything new, still working with the same non-profits, still doing research (close to but still not published...) so I'm not sure if a LOI would seem lame if I don't have any significant updates other than my strong desire to go to UCSD.... any thoughts? :luck:

I wrote an LOInterest/Update letter and got off pre-interview hold 3 days later. I think it really, really helps.

A LOI and letter of update don't have to be the same thing; you can do one without the other. Write a letter detailing specific reasons for why you are so interested in UCSD. What qualities of the school really suit you, and why should this particular school be interested in you?

I made the mistake of not doing what Berken did and I didn't send a letter right away. I did send one last week stating why I'm itnerested in the school and that I'd love to tell them more about me in an interview. I'm going to send an update in January after I get grades, and about some papers that I have in the works as well.
I'm hoping persistence pays off!

thanks for the advice guys! i think i'll get started on one... one last question, does one usually send these to the office of admissions to be added to your file, or directly to the dean of admissions? email or snail mail (which wouldn't be to hard i live right across the street!)

I sent it snail mail and then emailed them to let them know it was on the way. Then they just told me to email it as an attachment and they'd print it out for me. So I guess emial is just fine

My status page says a decision letter was sent yesterday. Think I should still get a call or email today?

WIATLISTEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD no no 'acceptable pool' hahaha

I am sorry to hear that foodfood. Please remember that many of us will be accepted from the "Acceptable Pool"! HAHA. When did you get the email?

Dude I feel the same fate lies on my horizons as well.. my status hasn't changed to letter sent and I haven't heard anything from the admissions office today. I am expecting an email shortly that corroborates my worst fears. Ugh this sucks, f*cking UCs.

Aw, I'm sorry dude. Nice to meet you though, and maybe it'll still turn out well!

Someone I talked to had called yesterday and found out that one of her interviewers was lagging, so her decision wouldn't come out until early January. Maybe that's the case for you too.

i got it around 10 am. seriously though, they didnt even have coffee at the admissions office?!?! BOOOOO!!

just called the admissions office. Got myself into the Acceptable Pool. oh yeah go me.

and yeah. no coffee is just plain wrong.👎

ugh

now i really wish i wrote update letters immediately after getting put on hold for a school

i haven't interviewed yet, but how does it work, if people either get in or are waitlisted, and "most" people who are waitlisted, will eventually get in, doesn't that mean most people who interview will get in, however the interview goes - either immediately or through the waitlist. because i thought only 50% get in after interview.

maybe it's just for the earlier interview that you automatically go into the acceptable pool if you don't get in?

Hell yes!!! I called in and found out that I have been accepted for the class of 2013!

Correct - the only outcomes post-interview are "accepted" and "acceptable pool" (yes, a nicer term for waitlist). I think that, ultimately, about 50% will get in. However, less than 50% are accepted immediately post-interview. I do have classmates who came off the waitlist throughout summer and even a week before class started 🙂

Congratulations!!! Hope you come to Second Look, and I'd love to meet you and tell you how awesome UCSD is (although I guess my opinions are already scattered around SDN).

All of you admitted people will be hearing from me 🙂 I'm involved in welcoming people, organizing Second Look, orientation, etc.

Accepted. Woot! Silverlining, I think you're good luck!
Yay! Congratulations! And you were OOS, right?

Haha yes, a lot of people I have met, taken on tours, or hosted are getting in... I think I'm doing above average 😉

To those who have been accepted/silverlining: to what address do I send my matriculation forms? There was no address included in my email or any of the attached forms. Also do you guys think it will matter that my "two-week deadline" cuts into the holiday admissions office closure? I was accepted on the 17th and only faxed/emailed my matriculation forms on the 23rd (after they had closed for the holidays). Will it matter that their opening day (January 2nd) is past the 2-week deadline?

Also apologies for bumping this thread and causing some undue stress

Send it to the address on the envelope (that's what I did) and they'll send you an email a couple days later confirming your intent to matriculate. I doubt their too strict about the 2 week deadline...

Chill out man, I can't imagine that the 2 week deadline is a hard and fast one. They can't very well reject you for not having it in within 2 weeks if they aren't there.

I sent my forms to the return address on the envelope from which they arrived. There are only a small handful of people who work in the admissions office. I'm sure whoever opens your envelope will know what your forms are and what to do with them.

Congratulations!

My experience with the UCs (specifically UCLA) is that they will find any way they can to **** you over when it comes to deadlines and if that doesn't work they will bury you under mountains of red tape and bureaucracy.

does anyone know if its too late to appeal for UCSD? i haven't gotten a secondary, so i assumed that i was rejected. i called a few weeks before christmas break and the office said they're doing a re-review of primary apps.

just wondering if its too late to do anything about my app? since i would have to do the secondary and wait for it to be reviewed before interviewing, etc...

Not me🙁

I knew I should have gone on the clinic tour also... you were doing the tour when I interviewed...

Medical school at a UC is very different than undergrad at a UC. Medical school admins and deans are there for you and want you to succeed. Well at least the ones here at UCSD that I have met as a student. 180 degrees different than what you might except. Actually, at first it is a little odd because you don't understand why they want to help so much. Then you realize they really care about you as a student and it becomes pretty cool! So no worries about red tape etc here in my humble opinion.....=D

Monkey House, I 😍😍😍 your avatar. Where did you get it?

I see you are also taking some time off to check out SDN on your vacation MonkeyHouse 😀

Indeed! Haven't seen you on here in a while, Monkey 😉

Please excuse my absence as well... I took winter break off SDN 😛

I sent them a letter of interest before Christmas break and received a personal response from Brian Zeglen, Director of Admissions. While he informed me that my "on hold" status won't change yet, I was very surprised by the personal notification that they had read my letter and reconsidered my application. Unfortunately I'm super bummed and this personal response only makes me want to go there MORE. 🙁

hey, i'm wiatlisted and i was wondering if there are any MS1s who got off the waitlist here, and if you did anything to improve your chances. like--did you send update and interest letters? how much did they help do you think?

haha you are my twin. I too sent a update letter right before xmas i got that same exact message and had that same exact feeling. too bad, i guess we'll have to wait until february 1st :luck:

Arpan and food I wish you the best of luck brothers.. UCSD is a great school. I was recently accepted and it's looking like that's where I will end up at the end of this app journey. I spent my undergrad here at UCSD and to tell you the truth I would absolutely love to spend another 4 years here (hell I'll do my residency down at Hillcrest too, make it 8-10 years). San Diego is an amazing city.
