Hi everyone,

First-time poster (thompa, you inspired me!) adding some data to the board. Interviewed 10/28, accepted 11/21. Good luck all!!

Wow first-timer flurry! Welcome to crazytown, all of you. Please join the rest of us who sit around dreaming about life in sunny, beautiful Worcester and conspiring about the goings-on inside the Remillard Pavilion Building.

Yayyy a (potential) fellow classmate! Congrats on the acceptance Steel! Do you think you're going to go?

P.S. I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're rooting for the Steelers Sunday?

Hi Everyone,
First time poster. I've been lurking on these boards ever since I had my UMass interview in November. Thought I'd add my voice to those in limbo...

I interviewed then (11/18 I think though). Were you a morning person or an afternoon person?

I was in the morning group.... it was one of the first unbearably cold days of the year.

Yeah that was brutal. Windy too. I'm living in DC right now, and we just got our first snow of the year this week. WTF, right? I need to haul back north, a life in MA and four years in upstate new york didn't prepare me for this "mild weather" BS.

I mostly keep up with Mass by listening to you guys talk about the lack of snow days and the bitter cold. I do miss it.

I interviewed a bajillion years ago (mid-Sept) and no word... I know they take forever but it still sort of hurts my soul every Friday that they don't accept me.

Thanks, scrubs! I'm definitely going to go. And yes, good guess about where my NFL loyalty lies - Go Steelers!

It's Friday! Based on the data people have compiled, do we believe acceptances will be given out today?

Doubt it... the data strongly suggest that it's the third Friday of each month, and they just did a ton of acceptances last week. Some people have said "early February" is an option, though, so who knows!

February 20th looks promising for acceptances... so far away!!

I agree... February 20th is too far away! But I'd prefer hearing on February 20th over February 13th. I'm not usually superstitious, but I don't think I'm even going to check my status on the 13th -- the whole Friday the 13th bit is a little too much for me.

Hey all,

I am currently a first year at UMASS and I didn't find out I was accepted until April (I interviewed in January). You will most likely be waiting until spring time before you hear back. Most classmates I talked to didn't find out until April/early May and if I remember correctly, they don't send all acceptances out on Fridays. I found out in the middle of the week.

I would hazard to guess that the Apil/May acceptances are off of the waitlist, and thus break the friday tradition. They just deal out the acceptances as spots open up. It seems pretty solid that until the class is filled, the only acceptances come out on Fridays.

On a side note...did January seem interminably long to anyone else?

Also, congrats on your team's win SteelCity. I went to college about an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh, and I have a lot of very happy (well they're hung over today) friends out there right now.

hey everybody, i interviewed on september 17th and was accepted on october 17th. sorry this is really really late and probably doesn't help in figuring stuff out now. but i figured i may as well throw it out there. I'm 95% sure I'm going to UMass, so I hope to see everyone June 6th (first time we all meet). Good luck to all!

Did you apply early decision?

If I don't get in this year, I am considering going that route... anyone have feedback on early decision program?

can you only apply to 1 school EDP? -- or can you apply to other regular admission at same time?

You can only apply to one school EDP, and until you are rejected from them you can't apply to any others. Obviously if you aren't accepted EDP this impacts upon your ability to apply to other schools in a timely fashion. Morever, my advisor told me that people who are accepted via EDP tend to be extremely strong candidates, so I don't think it's a good idea unless you would probably be accepted in the regular pool anyway. I suspect that for borderline applicants, it's best to apply as early as possible, but not as EDP.

How do people feel about pre-waitlist letters of intent for umass? I know that, no matter where I interview, I want to go to umass more than anything, but is it against protocol to tell them that before they even let me know where I stand? What about less formal email "I sent you my grades and oh by the way I'd happily turn down other acceptances in a heartbeat for you"?

Thanks!

I don't think you can ever go wrong by letting a school know just how much you want to be there. If UMass is your first choice you shouldn't feel like you have to wait for them to make a decision before you let them know it. The school seems to do a very good job of finding students who really want to be here, so I'm sure expressing your interest could only help your cause.

No, I did not apply early decision. I almost did but then decided to just give it a shot at like 20 schools. those fees were awesome... as everyone knows.

But I submitted my AMCAS in July I believe, or within a few weeks of it coming online. And then submitted my UMass app within days of receiving the secondary. So I had my UMass app done by the end of July I believe. So thats why my interview and acceptance were so early

dtmandell, i just noticed that you are also from Bolton! That is so cool/bizarre...

Thanks Father! I think I will send them something. Think email is appropriate for that kind of thing, or would snail mail be better?

I think I sent a letter as an email with a note at the bottom saying "hard copy to follow" and sent an actual snail mail letter as well.

Good idea! They haven't heard from me in a while anyway.

virusgirl, yep, Nashoba Regional High School grad right here. I noticed you also intervied at tulane? i read that thread as well since I intervied there a while back. That was an easy trip down St. Charles St. for me, as I go to Tulane Undergrad. If you want to know anything about New Orleans, let me know and I'll fill you in.

interviewed today.... lots of us maybe like 13ish with 4 or 5 md/phd students...

just waiting now

I interviewed on 11/19, and I'm still waiting. I honestly think I'm losing my mind. I understand that applicants typically wait until April/May, but for those that have already been accepted, what are your stats? I've seen a few but it would be nice to get a list going of things like GPA, MCAT score, date interviewed, and date accepted.

thanks!!

Hey guys,

For those of you have been accepted (and I know that number will go waaaaaay up in April) - I had an idea. I know UMass doesn't have a second look and I thought it would be really nice if a bunch of us could go back for a day in late April-ish. I'm currently choosing between UMass and another school, and I know that a bunch of you are in that boat too. This way, we could meet some of our future classmates and maybe get a better feel for the school! Let me know if any of you would be up for that!

P.S. I think I'll post this on the UMass class of 2013 thread too.

We do have a second look. I think last year was the first time they did it, but there have already been conversations about who will do what for second look weekend.

Oh really?? That's great. Sorry, I totally didn't know about that, since the only thing mentioned in the letter was a meeting in mid June.

Do you know when it will be? Thanks!

This is a perfectly good idea, but I would caution you to interpret any postings carefully, in that these people do not represent the average UMass matriculant. My understanding is that UMass accepts the amazing people up front, and pretty much everyone else gets wait-listed and accepted later. So those who have already been accepted are likely to be super stellar people who will make me feel lame in comparison. 😛 I just don't want anyone to see a bunch of posts that say "37T, 4.0 GPA" and feel like there's no hope...

Interview in mid Dember and still waiting.

-- JUST KIDDING-- I read back a ways and found out that they notify you by email. TG.

(This might be a silly question, but for those of you who *have* been accepted, how does UMass notify you? Email or snail mail? I don't have a very accessible mailbox and it's a real pain to check. And I've been checking just about non-stop for the past month. It would be really nice to know that I can stop doing that and just check my email.)

Last weekend of April. I think the details are still being figured out.

I havent been accepted - but from what I've read, people usually find out by checking the "Accept/Decline" link on the admissions site (same as the site you used to fill out your secondary). Then admissions follows with an email saying that you have been accepted. I don't know how they do rejections though. You should stop checking your mailbox and instead obsess about checking your email, like me. hehe. good luck.

Has anyone actually been rejected from UMass yet? I thought they didn't do that until they formed the waitlist, but, my interview was all the way back in Sept, so my memories may be a little murky.

Great! Quick question: do you know whether there will be activities on that Friday? I'm trying to figure out whether I'll need to take the time off from work. Thanks!

Here is what we have been told for Second Look Day: I believe details still being worked out but I think this gives you an idea.

Friday April 24 -- Accepted students will be invited to spend the day attending classes with us. In the afternoon (Friday Funday) there will be various social activities followed by a Famous Class of 2012 Pot-luck Dinner® in the student lounge hosted by our class. Naturally there will be various "diversions" planned for later that evening as well ;-)
Saturday April 25 -- Accepted students, and up to three guests, will spend the day (9:30am - 3:30pm) on campus learning about the school, and have the opportunity to attend an afternoon/evening social event.

Hey I just wanted to let you guys (people who interviewed a while ago and havent heard a thing) know I interviewed back in mid-october and just got an acceptance today.
