Do people think if no one gets in this week that the majority of the waitlist movement is done?

I just feel like we're still safe as long as we keep the momentum of at least 1 acceptance per week on this forum.

I'm staying hopeful because I remember reading that some schools don't even begin to look at their wait list until June. I think Tufts even says that a large portion of the wait list movement is June and July, so......:xf:

Spoke with the admissions office recently and was under the impression that the class is full and wait list movement is 1 in 1 out. But there is still supposedly movement.... :xf::xf:

yea it seems to me that most other schools take from the waitlist in june/july, which means that some spots may open up at umass bc those people are getting in off the waitlists at other schools. one can only hope!

hey, sorry to invade this thread, but i wanted to draw on the knowledge of 08 - 09ers. i am applying to umass this cycle, and im confused about the letter of recommendation requirements. my school does a letter packet (includes a brief cover letter by the premed committee). in my packet i have 4 letter- 2 non-science and 2 upper level science profs, not the "prerequisite" science courses, as written on their website. will this satisfy the requirements since it is not technically a premed committee letter?

That's fine, that's what my school did too. Good luck!!

Yeah, that's also what my school did. 100% ok!! Good luck!!

Any news anyone? There has not been much activity in this thread for a while

Zero.....I'm starting the slow process of moving on bit by bit. I'm still hoping, but I'm also trying to be more realistic now too since I need to start finding an apartment and stuff for next year. Hopefully, everyone has heard at least some good news from else where. 🙂

any umassers out there looking for roommates?

Was anyone interviewed for UMASS post bac program?

Where did all the people in this thread go?? Have people been accepted recently? Decided the wait was too bad and decided on some other place?
I miss the activity here

I'm silently stalking this thread each day, just not posting because I'm sick of this process and all the speculation they make us do!

I'm still hoping, but definitely making plans and getting excited about UVM. I'll be on the list until my first day of classes. Unfortunately, I think the poor economy has made people painfully aware of the cost of a medical education. So even though people aren't going to be any worse off than they were a few years ago graduating with a mountain of debt, it's factored into their decision a lot more. Can't blame them, though!

UVM is a wonderful school! I would love to go there
This wait is tough! Specially wanting to make plans and getting housing together but having wait lists on the back of your mind. I am trying to hold off a couple more weeks before finding apartments but I am afraid it might be too late
Best of luck to all!

Ya, I'm starting to make plans, talk to faculty and researchers, and find an apartment right now. After a lot of reflecting, I'm thinking that it might be fate telling me to go elsewhere because UMass doesn't have the research area that I'm really adamant about pursuing.

Congrats, iheartsnow. I've heard really good things about UVM. Plus, you're so close to all that skiing! Pretty jealous.

Good luck to everyone!

Just out of curiosity where are you guys going as of now...looks like im gonna be at NYMC if UMass doesnt show any love.

Haha I am actually on the wait list at both NYMC AND UMass, with UMass DEFINITELY being my #1. I don't have any allo acceptances (I applied MD/PhD), so as of now I will be going to a DO/PhD program if the other two schools don't show any love. GRrrr.. c'mon UMass!!:xf:

Kinda redundant since I put up an MDApp link in my profile, but I'm heading to Buffalo for a nice, snowy 6-7yrs 😛.

Also, eleven eleven, I'm kind of curious about the DO/PhD programs. From what I understand, DO's are much more primary care/clinically oriented, right? So I'm guessing that the DO/PhD's are much more clinical research-geared? Are they also 6-8+ years? Sorry for the questions, just a bit curious🙂

Good questions .. the programs are newer than the MD/PhDs and I'm not sure of what the breakdown ends up being, but yes, a far greater percentage of DO/PhDs go into clinical research than MD/PhDs. It is still possible to get that benchwork in with the "hard" sciences (biochem, molecular pharmacology, etc), but for the most part DO/PhDs tend to be interested in clinical research in primary care, internal med, and emergency med. The timeline is also the same as for MD/PhD. Hope that was helpful!🙂

Hi Meech and anyone else out here - still looking for a roommate? There's a lot of really nice looking 2 or 3 br apts around UMass that are under 1000/mo. - I'd like to snag one with a fellow med student soon.

I JUST GOT IN TODAY! They called me around noon today.

congrats tiptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you must be so excited! can't wait to meet you in august!

did everyone get the "class is full" email? I don't really understand what this means (I know it sounds like it should be obvious). But I assumed the class was already full and they were just accepting from the waitlist when someone withdrew. How is it different now?

Yeah that is really weird, I thought the same thing. And I didn't get the e-mail 😕 is that all it said?

this is what it said:

Thank you for your patience as a waitlisted applicant to UMASS Medical School. The class is full at this time but we are asking if you would like to continue to be considered for acceptance should an opening become available.

If you no longer wish to be considered, please notify us that you are withdrawing your application and include your AMCAS ID.

I called and asked for clarification, and I think the woman answering the phone thought I was a *****. But essentially, it's just reiterating what's been happening since May.

Did everyone get this email? I didnt get anything yet...

So UMass wants to figure out who is "seriously" still considering going if accepted off the waitlist. In my experience with this process (which is very limited!) other schools seem to send out these e-mails for one or both of two reasons:

1). these applicants are "top priority" on the waitlist (because c'mon, who really believes that there is not SOME ranking)

2). applicants who have not followed up with the school after being waitlisted, e.g. sent an LOI, updates, etc.

Either way, the school is trying to get their waitlist down to only the applicants who are serious about attending so that they don't waste time scrambling and accepting people last-minute who turn them down, and then the school has more phone calls to make.

I have seen other schools give the reasons above, and I wish I knew what UMass' reason was! But it's UMass, and we will probably never know 😎

Best of luck, iheartsnow, and let us know if you hear anything!!

Hey guys, I just spoke with the admissions office. She gave me the impression that at this point very few people come off the waitlist, "occasionally we do have some people who decide not to come."

Hey guys...

FYI I just got a post wait list rejection today. It was postmarked yesterday, and I received it today as I live in Worcester. It states:

"Your application for admission to UMASS has been kept active on our wait list as long as there remained a possibility of your being admitted. Unfortunately, it appears now that we will not be able to offer you a position in the incoming class..."

Good luck to those you still remain!!

Me as well. Good luck to you all. I'll probably see you guys around in the future when you're all my chief residents =P. Haha
