Hope you weren't delayed. It was snowing. As for the cold it has been brutal this year more than normal and snow too. Spring/Fall/Summer are nice.
Yeah, it was pretty cool (for me) to wake up to everything covered in snow. 😀 Fortunately my flight did not get delayed much - only had to take 15 extra minutes to de-ice the plane.

after my first interview at wayne, i got in and can't be more relieved. my friend has an interview early march, and i expect that many other people have one, too. so hopefully we'll get to see each other during the orientation days.

a bit of my odd advertisement: i have a newly built loft rented and an extra room. right across the med school (no joke), so message me if you want more info!

ps. last year someone i know was notified late in may, so unless you are rejected, you are still in the game 😎

get a gyro at the golden fleece. pegasus is overrated. park at the greektown parking structure near the freeway, it's free, and monitored.

Thanks for your info, I will definitely give it a try! 😀

Hey everyone! How long after your interview until you heard something? I interview on March 6th and was just curious. Thanks!

You get a list of dates on your interview day. There is one day per month that you can call in, after 1:00 PM. I believe you would call March 25th, but you'll find out when they give you the list 🙂

Hopefully those of us that have interviewed already and are still "under review" will get some good news on Wednesday!!

Yeah and I hope they consider the "under reviews" as valuable as the people who interviewed this month. I've been waiting to hear back since October 😴

Daaang, thats a long time...then I for sure hope we hear good news! Do they not reject anyone until may or something??

Good luck to everyone calling in tomorrow.

It's hard to say. It sure seems like it, but I imagine that once someone is rejected they don't come back to this forum to tell us about it.

Thats a good call haha

BTW, less than 12 hours.....

under review..do they end up taking people off this?

I'm in the same boat and I hope they do...my guess is they won't take anyone off of it until they've completed all of the interviews. i'm expecting to hear an actual decision april/may. has anyone been rejected yet or do they hold off on those, too, until april/may?

I'm joining the "under review" club, too. Interviewed 2 weeks ago, though, so it looks like I'm just embarking on the waiting game. 🙂 :luck: to all!

Has anyone heard of anybody actually being rejected post interview so far?

I'm a little confused here. So does "under review" mean you're on some kind of a waitlist or the admission committee simply hasn't made any decision on you yet?😕

I interviewed on Feb 9th and I've been placed "under review." I asked if anyone actually gets rejected or if they all go on that "under review" list if not accepted, and the secretary said there "have been some rejections." I haven't seen any proof of that in this thread though...most ppl I'm sure don't like admitting if they've been rejected, but surely someone would have posted a rejection in this thread by now...?

^ Hmm. Yeah it sure doesn't seem like anyone is getting rejected. But regardless, the secretary's response makes it seem like rejections have been rare. I interviewed earlier this month also... I had a really good feeling about today, but am also "under review." 🙁 Wayne is my top choice so hopefully there is significant movement from under review to the acceptance pile! Good luck to everyone! :luck::luck:

Hey everyone, through God's grace and nothing more, I was offered a place in the class of 2013. Im an out of stater, but I used to live in the Detroit area (hence Piston95). I hope that all you of who are waiting hear good news from either Wayne or wherever else. Stay strong, and keep doing what you do and things will work out.

Congrats on your acceptance! When was your interview??

DETROIT HERE I COME FOR THE NEXT 4+ YEARS!!!!!

I am so excited to be a part of the class of 2013

I interviewed at the end of January!

Hello
Under review means your file has been reviewed, and you've been ranked, and placed on the waitlist, but not yet accepted.
They move down this waitlist by order of rank as acceptees withdraw.

every month acceptees withdraw and applicants are accepted in order of rank to have the class filled to a greater predetermined degree each month

I found out today that I've been accepted to the Class of 2013! It feels so good to have this weight off my shoulders. It's been a very long journey for me. I've been working for the past few years as an engineer, while applying to med school every application cycle. My perseverence finally paid off. I applied to WSU twice before and did not get an interview. I increased my MCAT score in mid-September and applied very late.

btw, I'm a Canadian applicant and I interviewed in mid-December.

Thats great news, congrats! 🙂

So I take it you were "under review" on the jan.28 call-in date?

Could you possibly PM me your stats and healthcare background?

I intwd late Jan and was placed "under review" for today.

can a persons rank change by sending updates to the school?

edit: i just realized i know who you are

I asked the same question to the lady on the phone
She said any updates will be placed at the top of your file
So from what I make of it:
when they get to your file to determine whether to accept or keep on waitlist, then that's where they'll count
but no, it wont change your ranking. they still need to get TO your rank to see them. And there are multiple people on a given rank.

For any of you all on facebook, there is a group for the class of 2013

What do you guys think about who to address an update and/or letter of interest/intent? Would you suggest addressing it specifically? And if so, to whom? Dean of admissions? Director?

Why have there been so many out of state acceptances and no in state? They say they give preference to in state applicants but i haven't seen that at all. I grew up in the Detroit area and it is my home. This is BS.

^ I don't think there has really been a disproportionate amount of acceptances to OOSers, despite seeming that way here. Don't forget, SDN is such a limited selection of the applicants. If it truly is the case, maybe they accept more of their OOSers first since chances are they are less likely to matriculate and they need to keep a certain percentage of ISers? Just a guess...

Whoops meant to say certain percentage of out-of-staters.

Rumor is that due to budget shortages, both state schools Wayne and MSU are accepting more OOS to make up for the shortfall.

Not sure if it'll make you feel any better, but when I visited the school I was the only person not from Michigan in my interview group (out of about 15 people). They mentioned that approximately 100 students (out of 300) in each year's entering class graduated from U. Michigan alone, and at least 80% of the incoming class is from Michigan (you can look those numbers up in the MSAR and US News to confirm, too). So, it looks like Wayne is similar to other state schools in terms of the number of OOSers that attend. Bottom line I wouldn't take SDN to be the most representative and statistically accurate website when figuring these things out. Best wishes!

Yea, I'm getting quite frustrated like everyone else. I interviewed on october 14th, and felt pretty darn good afterwards. I have been sitting here every month trying to figure out what I did so wrong that they dont seem to like me 🙁 I just sent them a letter of intent a week ago, I just want to go to wayne!! This sucks... Hopefully come april/may, maybe even march, there will be better news!

Does anyone know how Wayne looks at Letters of Intents post-interview? Would it be helpful to send one in?

I guess you can always try. The lady in the admissions office said it wouldn't make too much a difference though, and I agree because it's so easy to say on a piece of paper how much you want to attend Wayne. Well, I guess it couldn't possibly hurt your chance.

After looking at ur MDApps I'm amazed you aren't in. I've heard from last years thread that there is a LOT of WL movement so hopefully that holds true.

To everyone on the waitlist.... I feel your pain... I have been there before... good luck and here is hoping to good waitlist movement this year. :luck:

To everyone who has been accepted, HELLO!!! I am looking forward to meeting you all in August, if not before!

And this is my first year applying to WSU as an out of stater. Since I only moved to Wisconsin about 2 years ago.

Wayne State aims for 90% of its class to be In-state

thats a pretty huge percentage.

http://www.med.wayne.edu/admissions/applying/statistics.asp

The numbers speak for themselves. Wayne is mostly in-state (85% last year). I'm assuming that you interviewed and were waitlisted (or up for "futher review"). Don't stress, its only the begining of March. From what I understand, if you interview you are most likely going to get accepted. Wayne has huge waitlist movement. I know of someone who got accepted last year a week before classes started. And in the past two years, I have only heard of one person being out right rejected, and that was because he bombed his interview.

Also, you are looking at a discussion thread. The demographics of this thread in no way represent the actual demographics of the applicant pool. I'll put money on it that the majority of the people on here are oos, so that is what you will mostly see. I know of some in-state acceptances that happend this last cycle, so its not as if they're only focusing on OOS right now. Take everything on here with a grain of salt.

And best of luck!

so i am currently accepted here and was wondering what the policy is with grades? ive been kinda slackin off this semester n takin it easy, and i was wondering if a C will hurt me?! and how about 2 C's? lol.. thanks for the help 🙂

I just addressed my letter to the admissions committee, thats what they told me to do when I called. Good luck!

Yeah that's what i ended up doing. Thanks though. And good luck to you also!
