To hell with the beer, go eat some noodles! Congratulations Phoenix!

Had myself some celebratory sashimi and a black & white cynical love flick at the chicago international film festival. The rest of you can have your beer! 🙂

Good luck barf! No, that just sounds wrong. Mule? Hrm. Fala? BM? BFM? You get the picture. :luck:

Many, many congratulations, Phoenix!

Congrats Phoenix!

And now I shall high-five Phoenix and 2008orbust and do a happy dance... I just got my acceptance to Case! 😀 Oh how sweet it is

:clap::banana:St0w, that is awesome!!! You did it man!!!!!!

Thanks people!! What a feeling, especially considering it was one of my top choices...

As has been said, this is the year of the non-trad! :luck::luck::luck: to the others!

good job for those of you with acceptances
good luck for those who have interviews scheduled :luck:

and please send some of that luck my way 🙂

Congrats on the acceptances!

The only major developments on my end (due to snail mail notifications) was Drexel finally admitting that I'm on a pre-interview hold, after I e-mailed them eleventy-billion years ago asking that very question.

I just want to say congrats to everyone who has gotten an acceptance already. It is a huge accomplishment! That being said, I called Loyola this morning to check on my status and my LOR packet was never received. So, unless you have an email in your box stating you are complete, do not take it for granted. Be proactive and make sure you're complete at every college you've applied to. 😱

I got an interview at UC Davis- not sure when yet, since they've neither emailed nor called me back about it. 🙄
Still haven't heard back from OHSU despite emails and calls about whether or not I'm complete.🙁

Two updates on this front...

I was placed on the OOS waitlist at UVM, which is an entirely common experience I understand. I was a little bummed, but I have to admit I was thoroughly prepared for this occurence by this website and also by the UVM students I met (almost all of them came off of that waitlist!)

Also, I received an interview invitation at BU! I'm pretty excited about that. It had been over a month since I had heard from any of the schools, so it was really great to get this ray of hope.

Congrats! That's funny, because the exact thought that was running through my mind as I opened this thread just happened to be, "Wow, BU rejects so many applicants. I wonder who it is they actually invite?!" Glad it's you!

Regarding UVM, inundate them with calls and letters about your extreme and devoted interest and you'll have a much better chance of getting off the OOS waitlist. At least, that's what our student tour guide said yesterday (who did just that and got in in June two years ago). And apparently they won't be ranking the waitlist into thirds this year. It will be entirely unranked (unlike last year). :luck:

Really? Not even into thirds, huh? I am planning on calling them next week, it is really a great school. Wherever I go, I will be moving with my wife and also taking my mom, who we take care of, so quality of life in the community is really important to me. Burlington has that well covered.

I was somewhat surprised by Boston. I thought I might get an interview as I watched people getting rejected who were complete after me, but there were just so many worthwhile candidates rejected it is a bit surprising! If only I like it up there half as much as I liked UVM!

i just got a call at 9pm tonight from christine shafer telling me that i'm accepted to michigan state MD! i am in TOTAL shock right now because this is my first choice school at this point.. oh my goodness, all the hard work is paying off and what seemed like such a distant dream before is truly becoming a reality! i know all you non-trads can understand where i'm coming from with this, it hasn't been a short road getting here, and that makes it that much more amazing when you get that acceptance. yay! just wanted to share. have a good night, everyone.. i'll be spending my evening trying my darndest to stay focused on studying for my exam tomorrow!

CONGRATS!!!! :hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy: That's WONDERFUL! Yay for first choice schools! And good luck on your exam - I imagine your concentration is about shot to hell, but in a good way. Hopefully you can celebrate properly afterward. And don't forget to add yourself to the non-trad acceptance thread!

OK, what a helluva day!

Creighton acceptance (completely dancing-banana worthy  )
Mizzou interview invite (w00t :horns: )

Case rejection

aaah, who needs'em anyway. as a native Cincinnatian, I'd probably get lynched for going to Cleveland. so :d on them. 😎

Congrats to suenos and pingouin and megboo! for everybody!

So suenos, how'd that concentration work out for you? 😉 I'm gonna guess.... totally wrecked. And if not, that's quite impressive.

Congratulations to everyone getting in! :hardy:

Good luck to those still waiting. 🙂

I have received and submitted secondaries to DMU, KCOM, Western, and TCOM and I am sitting on the secondary for Yakima ($175!) until these sort themselves out. It's been 3 weeks so I am hoping to hear soon.

I am pretty sure that if I check my email account 20 times a day that it will have a similar effect as a buddhist prayer wheel or something like that....

Oh man, Quix, that suxx. I have my fingers crossed for you that things go better with Pitt, as well as some of the other schools you are still waiting on.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I just got off the phone with PCOM asking about an update - I was told that once the committee had made a decision that I would be contacted in writing - it's been over a month since I was complete and under review. Yee-hah. Still nothing from Temple or Jefferson.

Temple and jefferson have left me out in the void as well. I figure they are waiting to see how many withdrawals/rejections they get through November before they start acting. My aacomas was finally mailed...2 months after I submitted...so I am still waiting to hear from pcom. Why didn't you do UMDNJ-SOM? It really isn't too terribly far from Philly?

No real desire, and funds for applications were limited.

Congrats to those got accepted..

Speaking of thin letter..(Quix) I just got THIN wait list letter from pitt today...

a little disappointed...but at least not a rejection😀

hi, pingouin...
I got their pre-sec rejection too......well, at least didn't waste more money i guess...

Wake Forest rejection- pre-secondary. meh.

Ping & NEpats - Ignore Wake. The pre-secondary rejection means nothing. Tons of us got it for no reason or rhyme. Though it did get me a little down too initially because it was the first bit of news I got back from any schools. But in hindsight, it meant absolutely nothing, and had no bearing on the rest of my applications. I have no idea what Wake is looking for, but their pre-secondary rejections should be taken with a grain of salt. It's not you, it's them!

Some of this stuff really boggles me. For instance, the fact that I got a pre-secondary Wake rejection and a Mayo invite? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense! 🙄 I know schools can be looking for different things, but I've since given up trying to make sense of any of this. Just keep your wits about you and your chin up. It's their loss!

oh, Phoenix.. I'm totally with you on giving up finding a rhyme or reason. 🙂 one state school where I really thought I might have an interview chance due to some strong state ties has me on post-secondary hold (and believe me, my essays delineated those ties). another state school where I have no state ties whatsoever gave me an interview. go fig. *shrug*

I have several friends in NC, but none in Winston-Salem, so WFU is no huge loss to me. I'm with NEpats with being grateful they didn't take more of my money before making this decision. bravo, WFU. you're classy. *golf clap*

thanx Phoenix!! Congrats on the Mayo invite!!

I'm with you ping... no idea how all these decisions are made???
i was just interviewing at a state school that I have NO tie of the other week...

right now I am still awaiting for my first NON THIN letter...

got 2 wait lists😕 and few rejections🙁 .....

I turned around 15 secondaries this week . . . no you can't actually see the bleed in my brain on a CT just yet. I got an interview the same day I was complete @ the school where I'm taking graduate classes, which was a big confidence boost. I'm still not quite sure how the other schools are going to treat me. But, when I started this process, no one thought I would ever get an interview so it's a huge step in the right direction.

To the other poster about the pre-secondary rejection from Wake - how long did it take them to notify you after the email saying they were reviewing your primary? Sorry about the rejection. 🙁
Almost forgot - how long does EVMS take to screen primaries? I really like both schools but the wait is killing me!

Hello all:

Longtime browser (nee, lurker) nontrad coming out of the shadows and into the light. 32 y/o, Midwest, former military who's back in school on the road to MD-dom. It's nice to be "seen".

I wanted to introduce myself and say a big CONGRATULATIONS to all the nontrads who are kicking major wazoo and giving hope to those of us who are right behind you. How I envy thee! 😍

Continued good luck, and keep that good news a'comin'!!

Regards,
HAB

Um, according to one of my very sweet friends (a MD), "Well.. that's in another 4 years. I don't want to jump the gun on that one."

And I thought pediatricians were supposed to be the nice doctors..

I'm going to miss out on that spinach lasagna I was promised, though. I need to grieve that loss. 😉

I thought I would drop an update on my status.

Post-bac ends in a month. Applying for linkage to Drexel. Planning on MCATs in end of April-early May. 4-5 months of MCAT study to go between now and then. Will hopefully find out about conditional acceptance to Drexel by February (pending a minimum MCAT score). Pretty disconcerting that I won't find out if I am matriculating in August 2008 until around June. If that fails its back to the normal applicant pool for me, matric in 2009 cycle.

Referring to the above post; What is "linkage" to Drexel? Perhaps someone can link me. I did a little search but nothing.

Kronickm: if the linkage thing does not work out, would applying during this upcoming cycle in June be your first time in the AMCAS pool?

Regards,
HAB

1. I am in a structured post-bac program that has a "linkage" with some schools that allows me to apply in january '08 for fall '08 matriculation before I take my MCAT. (I will use 2008 MCATs for 2008 matric year)

2. Yes if linkage does not work out it will be my first time in AMCAS pool. However it looks as if someone may have pee'd in the pool so I would rather not get in it if you know what I mean.

Albert Einstein secondary finally showed up - $110!? 🙁

I just emailed the school in my hometown saying "I'm visiting my family during Thanksgiving week, if you guys are doing interviews and if you're interested in me, I'd love to come visit then". 😱 We'll see if that works...
