***2008 SUNY at Buffalo - UB Accepted Thread ***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same here, found out Weds. afternoon. Hopefully this means there is a good outlook for anyone else interviewing after Dec. 1st.

So who is actually planning on attending Buffalo?

cool... i'll do buffalo, what do ya'll say..

hey guys..
I have an interview @ UB on 25th jan. I was looking at thier website and it said that any student whose first language is not english no matter where they graduate from are subjected to take TOEFL before enrollemnt...can any shed anymore light on that? i am Asian but i have been here for 5 yrs now and graduate from a university in US so does that apply for me as well?

Thanks in advance!

Anybody got any papers in the mail yet? I am in the 3/4 so I don't know if my stuff will come later, since I still have to maintain a GPA the next semester, even though I already have a spot reserved.

Coolest Cool.... According to Facebook only 2 people in at SUNY buffalo YAH MAN, madd student/faculty RATIO!!!!!

Shreya, I don't think you would have to take TOEFL since you graduated from US school, but you may want to confirm with admissions.

If you graduated from a US school he must have taken the TOEFL since it is an admissions requirement for any school.

Bump for the new folks.

I am looking for a roommate, pretty much essential if anyone's looking at apartments or anything. Male, clean, non smoker, no drugs, but we can still have a good time when we get a little break...

Shoot me an email, [email protected] .

Got accepted last week, i'm so excited!

UB is Cheap
Buffalo is Cold
UB is Cheap!

😀

Congrats Farantino. I wouldn't change the status to dental student until you are officially enrolled.

Don't worry about that. If you have a Bachelor's from US university and have taken 2 semesters of English expose and have a decent score on RC in DATs don't worry about it. Let them first raise that question. They didn't ask me anything in that direction.

I'm going 🙂
There was some fretting over UB or UMDNJ, which was closer to my hometown of NYC, but UB is just more awesome.
I'll be shopping for snow boots soon ;-)
I know there probably won't be much time for dating, but does anyone know anything about the lesbian scene in Buffalo?

Buffalo certainly doesn't have the gay/lesbian population that NYC or NJ does, but there is a bit here. Certain areas of the elmwood strip and allen st. have strips of gay bars. There is only one bar that I know of that is a "lesbian" bar, but I am sure there are others around if you look.

wuts next for us accepted people...

Any dats that I should be concerned about?

bro's whens the next check due?

for those of you that recently got accepted (in the past 2-3 weeks), when is your deadline for putting down a deposit?

It should say on the acceptance letter. Mine was postmarked feb 12th, I had to get the deposit in by feb 29.

i don't have an acceptance letter so that's why I'm asking to find out when the recent batch of acceptances will expire and hopefully make some movement where they will send me an acceptance 🙂

I've heard they usually let you know real fast but unlike others in my interview bunch i'm still waiting to hear news.

p.s. when did you interview?

dont worry dentalicous... you'll be cool like us soon!

I was in a 3/4, so I didnt have an interview per se this year.

But I had been working since end of last semester to get them the paperwork they needed, abysmal process, though Barbara was quite helpful.

Anymore recent acceptees to this school? Come on come out wherever you are.

Did you all get your financial award letters?

I got mine yesterday, around 41300 per year so around 165k total. Pretty scary amounts of money.....

At least it's under $200K. Some of our colleagues are going to really suffer when it comes to repaying loans from private schools. They are going to suffer repaying those ridiculous loans at $5K a month. We won't have that heavy burden to repay each month. 👍

Yeah I definitely agree, we'll be ahead of like 90% of grads around the country financially, but 165k of loans is still a pretty scary for me, a 22 year old who has never had more than like 3k in the bank haha

and golfer - yeah I only got 8,000 in subsidized and 800 for perkins, so I'll be paying a lot of interest unfortunatly

If you want to buy a home later on you will be dealing in the order of hundred thousands easy. You don't want to still be paying a lot for your education loans later on in life.

I got basically the same numbers as you.

8500 for subsidized (thats the highest we can get for one year from the government regardless of income, etc) and 800 for perkins.

Got the rest via unsub direct loans...

They also estimated I'd get a $550 grant from TAP, but I have filled that out and TAP is saying I'm not getting a dime from them...I called UB SRC to see whats up, maybe they are thinking TAP doesnt take into account parents income like the FAFSA (even though we had to fill it out there too).

Finally got my financial aid letter. 😎

got mine today also.. 8500 for subsidized, 7000 for dental health prof loan.. the rest is unsubsidized 🙁.. at least they gave enough so i wont have to go to any private lenders.

does anyone know if there are cool dental tees at the UB bookstore?

I've only seen the standard UB sweatshirts and shirts. You could try to get the class to make one. 👍

I sent my deposit earlier this month and got a confirmation letter saying they recieved my deposit on March 4, but they still haven't taken the money out of my account. How long did it take for them to cash your checks?
