I've been on the president's honor roll more than once from different semesters, so should I list all of them since all you can do is put the month and year one at a time? It just seems like I shouldn't put the same award on there multiple times.

I asked AACOMAS this very question last year and they said to just list it per semester/quarter. So for each time I was on it I listed it as Sept. 2003 "Deans List" for the fall 2003 quarter, then January 2004 "Presidents Honor Roll" for the Winter Term etc. Each start of a quarter was a new entry for the quarters I had honors for.

When you get your verified application it is then listed very nicely for the adcoms.

I couldn't find the answer yet, but when submitting MCAT scores, which 8-digit number do you use - the AAMC ID or the registration ID that you get when you're done taking the MCAT? It's been a few weeks since I released my scores to AACOMAS using my AAMC ID. I appreciate any help with this issue

Hey All, I kind of have a situation.
I know that the earliest we are able to turn in our applications is right around the beginning of June (2 or 3rd maybe?). My situation is that I am leaving for Africa on June 1st,and will be there for six weeks. So I'm not going to be back until July 16th. Is this too late to be turning in my primary application?? Thanks all.

if you have to turn it in June and can't be here to do it, maybe you can have someone you trust (family, friends etc) submit it for you. Just finish everything before leaving.

But those 16 credits still show up on my transcript. That's the worrisome thing, and one of them allowed me to skip the first semester of intro bio (i wasn't thinking about med school back then, if I could do it again I would've just taken the class anyway for the easy A). So I'm worried then if it looks like I didn't do all my pre-reqs. The first semester was just ecology/evolution material, however I've taken upper levels in these. It hasn't seem to be a problem with other applicants from my school in the past, but I'm not sure what they did. I just don't understand why my school's registrar is so inept - this past year they've lost people's social security numbers and sent out thousands of individual's personal information and billing information, both students and alumni, to random e-mail addresses "by accident". :scared:

I'm failing to understand. It shows up on your unofficial transcript but not on the official?

Keep in mind that because you were given credit for that bio, and thus allowed to take higher-level classes, you will still be fine when it comes to pre-reqs.

If the course title on my transcript is: "Fund Chem", do i write that EXACTLY on the app or do i write "Fundamentals of Chemistry."

Same for some names that got cut off bc of space such as "Citizens and Governanc". Do i write it exactly like that or add on the "e"
(just realized this question seems crazy! sorry!)

Also, i have a class that was called "american diversity" but its really a history class about different cultures. The name on my transcript is SOC, so it stands for sociology...so would i put it under the history section of the app or the social science section?

And one more....i took a statistics class for the business major i used to be...what does that go under, math or business?

thanks! 🙂

I would input the classes exactly as it shows up on your transcript, but honestly I don't think it matters. As for category, it depends on which department at your school offered the course. Did the sociology or the history dept offer it? Did the math or business dept offer it? Those are your answers. 😀

You can put multiple awards down just fine; plenty do it and I believe that's how AACOMAS prefers it.

I honestly can't remember as I did this a year ago, but I'm pretty sure it was the AAMC ID. AACOMAS will take its time getting your scores though, so don't freak out. If anything, try to contact them.

It was on my DARS report, but that was the old system when I was still going there - they've changed in the past year. The correct total number of credits is on my official transcript, but it doesn't list the ap classes on my official transcript, so when you do the math it looks like I magically earned a semester worth of credits out of thin air just for being so good looking. I'm calling the application services Monday morning and see what they would like to do to resolve this lol.

if your taking the mcat in july, and you want to let aacomas know that your going to be sending in your scores at a later date, how do you go about doing so? under mcat do you just fill in all your information and then click apply to the schools you would like to apply to on june second? I know you then fill in your aamc access ID number but you don't do that till you get your scores back and im curious because I would like to apply to these schools, and have them put my application aside until i get them my scores. thanx

you should have a number from when you registered, or an AAMC ID #, no?

Either way, you can just put down when you plan to take it if you haven't done so yet.

When entering awards and scholarships should i list Deans list for every semester on there? I mean i got it every semester but it seems like over kill. I got a scholarship from my fathers work every year I was in school, I had to qualify for it but i still got it year in and year out, do I list that everytime I got it too?

I listed those kind of recurring things only once.

I'll respond to your PM by the morning. I have a few other things to take care of, and I don't want to rush. 🙂

Yes, list every occurrence of each honor.

Edit: Haha, CB beat me to it within a minute! I guess it's up to you how you want to enter it. Personally, I don't think it matters a whole lot...

Yes, list every occurrence of each honor.

That's fine, too. I just had a lot of other things on my app (not in the Awards section, but in the others), and I preferred just listing them once.

I agree that it's not a big deal, either way. Success from both sides of the fence. 😀

Thanks, for everything! Im just watching NBA slowly chipping away at these application.

Another question though. If I'm taking a class at to become certified as a CNA over the summer and I listed that on ACOMAS, I have to obtain a transcript for it, correct? Also I have listed all of my courses on ACOMAS, but still have no GPA's listed, do they only do this once you submit?

Hey guys,

This probably has to be the dumbest question but I cannot find out when you can start submitting the AACOMAS application. I know AMCAS is around June 2 but I cannot find AACOMAS's for some reason. Anyone care to enlighten me? =)

Thank you

Thank you

If I'm not mistaken you can already start submitting.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Are GPA calculations on the AACOMAS showing up for you guys?

Yes. I listed a course I was taking in July and I had to request a transcript for it. Also, I think there's some gpa glitch going on. My gpa was showing up before I submitted.

When I started entering in my courses online, the AACOMAS website automatically calculated my GPA for me. I finally entered in all of my classes, and its not showing my GPA anymore! I was really anxious to see what my semi-official sGPA and nsGPA are. Anyone else having this issue?

My GPA's arn't showing up either. I guess there's some glitch or it just takes them a really long time to calculate it.... I don't know why it would though.

It never shows my GPA.
I am also curious to see it.

Hi,

1. When to send the Transcript? Can it be send before submitting the application to AACOM or I have to send them after I submit the application?

2. My school takes online request for transcript to send out, now how the AAMC will attach the transcript to my application? as I can not send the AAMC transcript request letter to college.

1. Yes

2. Call your school, that happened to me before and I just faxed over the sheet with a cover letter requesting it be attached.

ok so I have finished my application. took me a couple of days, Im just waiting on MCAT scores which I have filled out properly thanks to all your help here guys. Just one last question, I had my transcripts sent out from my school almost 2 weeks ago and it says they havent showed yet, Is it possible to apply even before they have my transcripts and when they get them they will send everything out? Or do I have to wait?

So I was an Applied Physiology and Kinesiology Major, would classes like Physiology of Exercise and Training, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning, and Neuromuscular Aspects of Exercise be considered Biology/other science or non-science? I'm leaning towards other science but I'm just double checking.

P.S Its also taking aacomas forever to upload my MCAT scores.

If they're physiology courses they fall under biology. I took quite a few "Exercise Biology" courses, and most of the material was physiology so thats the category I put it under.

1. You can send it in before you submit.

2. I personally never used the request form because my college took online requests, too. As long as you just send it to the right place, they'll match your transcript by name/S.S.#/whatever else.

Do you have to submit transcripts before you submit the app? Or is it like the AAMC where you can submit the application and it won't be verified or whatever term they use until they receiver the transcripts?

Yes, you can submit it now. I submitted mine Saturday. 😎

When DO school look at your grades, do they focus more on the GPA's reflected by your transcript or the one that AACOMAS provides you?

Just curious...

Do you send in LOR with the primary app? Or, do you wait for secondaries?

My LORs are coming slowly, so I'm wondering if I should submit the primary w/o LORs.

It's like the AMCAS in that respect; you can submit the app before the transcripts.

I would think they look more at the AACOMAS GPA...otherwise it wouldn't make much sense, would it. 😀

Submit the app without the LORs; you'll be fine. 👍

do you guys think submitting in june (early june) is still considered early for DO schools?

I hear everyone say to apply early. What is "early," exactly? I'm taking the MCAT next Thursday, so I guess the earliest I can get my application in is around the beginning of July. Is that considered "early"?

The summer months are generally considered "early". So you'd be early as well. 👍

I just had a quick question regarding the required course work for each school. I'm looking at the "DO version of the MSR (http://www.aacom.org/resources/bookstore/cib/Documents/cib2010/2010-CIB-complete.pdf)" and after each school it has a table titled Premedical Coursework. I was a chemistry major and never took genetics or molecular biology. There are some schools that have these two subjects with X's next to them. I'm assuming Req.=required? and Rec.=recommended? Am I correct? If I never took genetics or molecular biology and it is recommended... would I be at a major disadvantage? Also, I plan on applying to a lot of schools, would I even have a chance if I applied to a school that required either of these two classes? I'm so confused on how relevent/important these tables are lol. Thanks in advance.

You're correct; Req is required and Rec is recommended. If you applied to a school that recommended those classes, it wouldn't be a disadvantage to you as much as it would be an advantage to those that have; regardless, it's definitely worth applying to schools even if you don't have any of the recommended classes. You should focus on the required classes instead, because if you don't have those then you shouldn't apply to those schools unless you're planning to take the classes before you matriculate (assuming the school will accept that you haven't taken them yet).

I have 3 different schools I requested transcripts from. I requested them all on one day (both to AMCAS and AACOMAS). 1 transcript is not yet received for AMCAS, and another (not the same school) not yet received for AACOMAS.

I sent the request around May 8th, and some were recevied at AMCAS/AACOMAS as soon as May 15th. When should I think about re-requesting, or is this typical?

...Did you get that "check mark" right away? I paid with credit card yesterday, and now when I log onto AACOMAS, it a list of my schools pops up and next to them all it says "payment pending." Is this usual? I figured they could process credit cards rather quickly. It says I have all my transcripts in and have submitted my app but still a "no" next to made payment.

Any advice or insight would be helpful. Thanks everyone.

I'm a rising senior:
cGPA: 3.71
sGPA: 3.55

I have a decent resume to go along with those.

However i do have bump in the road. After scoring 24-28 on 6 practice MCATs I ended up scoring a 22M on the real thing in Aug '08.
I'm scheduled to retake June 18th, praying for at least a 25, but will be highly disappointed if don't score a 27 or higher.

With that out of the way I have a few questions about the AACOMAS application.
I plan on starting it today, but am not really sure about the sequence of a submitting stuff.

Do I need to submit my application or have my school send in my transcripts first? or do both at the same time?

My main concern is that i don't want to apply late, but i don't want AACOMAS to send in my application to my desired schools until my new MCAT score is in. So is there an option on there where you can say this? or do they automatically update your application with new MCAT scores as they come in???

Also, when do schools start looking at applications?

Sorry if this is long, and im sure they have been answered somewhere in this thread, but i couldn't find them.

As soon as you register with your email, request transcripts from your school(s) as this can take a few weeks. Under the MCAT section you will list your old score and put that you are registered to take it again. Will they look at your app before the new score comes out? I can't remember but I know this was taled about in this or another thread. You may want to look around b/c if they see your 22 they may auto-reject you and now pay attention that you are taking again. Hopeful someone else will respond to this who knows for sure.

I've a couple questions...

For the extracurriculars section in the application, how do you add stuff that doesnt have the name of an organization, hours etc. I'm a musician so how do I mention that?

Also, I was an RA. There aren't any hours associated with it cuz its a 24 hr a day sort of a job. How do I enter the hours for that since they're required in the Work Experience part?

Thanks guys

So i just realized that i took a medical terminology course my senior yr in high school through my local community college. it counts towards credit for my state university, and it appears on my community college transcript, where i took 3 classes in the summer a couple years later in college. I have no idea how to enter this into aacomas though. do i put my attendance dates starting from when the class appears on my transcript, even though i didnt actually attend the college? Example- it says my Med Term class is 1.00 credit hour from fall 2002. My other class i took were from summer 05 and summer 06. So do i put attendance from fall 02-summer 06? I feel like that would confuse adcoms into thinking i went there the whole time? And how can i specify that its a high school course that i got college credit for or do i even need to? (its not an AP course). Thanks so much! 🙂
