Would the people that got accepted mind posting their stats? I'd appreciate it a lot, as I would like to know how I stand stats-wise. Thanks in advance.

I doubt SDN is the best place for that. There are better resources for averages, but I don't necessarily think drexel is a stat heavy school (to a degree since its still a med school).

So I received my financial aid awards package in the mail today.
But I haven't received my actual acceptance letter yet.
Does Drexel do everything backwards? Haha

Ok guys. I've been complete here for at least six months now and it still reads, "Your file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season for a final decision." I've sent in two update letters so far. Is there any chance of interview at this school for me anymore? How late do they interview?

i think this is a school that does silent rejections...

I don't think so...there have been rejections pre-interview on this thread. Also, people are getting rejected post-interview as well. I am pretty sure anyone with this status hasn't been rejected, but is quite unlikely to receive an interview at this point that will later turn into a rejection. Also, their website says they will be interviewing through April.

That's true so I'm not keeping my hopes up and besides premedchelli might be right.. drexel is listed as a school known for silent rejections in the following SDN thread from last year..

List of silent rejection schools:

Has anybody on the wait list tried emailing their interviewer? would that be a good idea?

Bingo. I think you're still in the running as long as you don't get an outright rejection, whether it's pre/post-interview, however, the chances of getting an interview at this point are probably slim.

I've been student interviewing pretty regularly and I had been told that this past week was the last batch of interviews and the last chance for me to squeeze a free lunch out of admissions office.

Excepting any really weird and out there situations, I think the regular interview season is done at Drexel.

Ditto!

I rushed home from work to check my mail, and there it was...a big fat financial aid package. I've been checking my mail like crazy since wednesday. I even checked it twice this past Sunday, and USPS doesn't even deliver on Sunday's:laugh:...But I AM INNNNNNNNNNNN:clap::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::clap:

Well, I still haven't gotten the actual acceptance letter, but the financial aid letter starts off with "Congratulations on your admission"...don't care after that. Wohoooo..

Ok well that's that. Thanks for the info!

Then why don't they tell the rest of us on hold that we're not getting in?

I legitimately have no idea. The other Drexel person floating around seems to have more knowledge of the admissions process, mine stops somewhere just after having lunch with applicants and trying to figure out if I'd want to go to school with them.

Seriously you guys seemed (at second look) to be really chill and cool. I'm waiting to hear from BU but even if it's a yes, I'll still have decisions to make. Anyone who is accepted should consider the program above many others, unless you have a cheap option... that is possibly one of the only downsides.

quick question for anyone who knows...

How much movement off the waitlist happens at a school like Drexel?

How many waitlisters are there and how many spots generally open up?

-thanks

Yeah, Drexel students are pretty good at a couple of things. On the positive side, we're really good as a whole at passing step 1. On the negative side, we're also really good at graduating with debt. Also, about the chillness, when I applied to Drexel, it really wasn't a school on my radar. I ended up attending because my student interview gave me the sense that as med schools go, it was a relatively relaxed atmosphere with a low gunner count.

I might just be good at selective socialization, but that seems to have been borne out by my experiences.

With the exception of study marathons that only had to happen because I'd blow off two or three days in a row to watch movies and play video games, my first year at Drexel has been pretty enjoyable and fun.

Everybody clicks with different schools, though.

I probably would have gone to the second look day, but with spring break and all I think I was in bed until three. I didn't remember I could have stalked around the halls of the school playing discovery channel safari to your gazelle until like 8 or 9 that night.

for those of you receiving financial aid packages..when did you interview??

for those of you receiving financial aid packages..when did you interview??

It has to do with when you file fafsa ect. that you find out your aid package, not interview date. I'm the perfect example: interviewed in September and haven't done fafsa yet. No financial aid package for me, but if I got one it would be totally sketchy considerng that they know none of my dismal financials.

I just got my fin aid packet the other day too and the numbers are a little overwhelming, especially since I'll probably be funding 100% of med school with loans. I guess no primary care for me.

Drexel and its students really gave me a good feeling as well. So much so that I turned down a couple interviews after my acceptance back in November. Philly was a pleasant surprise and the "feel" of Drexel, combined with PIL had me sold.

Edit: I couldn't make it to the second look day. Did anyone on here go? How was it?

I'm IFM to the bone, but I appreciated the offer of a PBL program as fleshed out and effective as PIL.

even though the name is silly

Not to boggart this forum, but I went to the optional PIL group meeting and it was incredible. Totally like the show House, so I started watching it. 😀 The difference is that they find out weird rare infections and we did asthma. lol. You'd like it even more if you went. I'm glad you feel the same way, btw.

Yeah, I just opened my "fin aid" packet today. Considering how broke me and my family are, I'm guessing that financial aid isn't Drexel's strongest point. Granted, they said they have scholarships available, but those only range from $500-$5000...hardly puts a dent in things 🙁

As I've said before, the last few application cycles for Drexel have seen very little waitlist movement on SDN. You can't really generalize what you see on here to waitlist movement as a whole, but it gives you some idea. However, Drexel tends to pull people from the waitlist well into the summer (July) so there's plenty of time to get that call. I can't tell you how many people will be taken off the waitlist this year because I honestly don't know and it's going to be different every year.

Accepted!!

Received the letter in the mail today. So happy!

So, is there a second look?

There was just a second look this past Saturday...they might have another one, but I doubt it 🙁

Congrats on the acceptance though!!!

Thanks a lot!
Do you have any idea where I can meet or talk to some accepted students that are looking for housing?

I got my acceptance and financial aid award today.
I interviewed on february 15th.
i'll be withdrawing over the weekend, so good luck to the waitlisters!!!!

Lucky.. I interviewed 2/4 and still haven't heard anything back from them. :/ My application is apparently still under review by the committee for 8 weeks now.😕

Interviewed 11/11
Final Decision 03/24
Accepted today!!!!! First acceptance!!!!

I guess the letter of interest after 18 weeks post interview really helped 🙂

Congrats ROGI! Bet that waiting was miserable. Now get off of SDN and go celebrate!

Congrats! I'm glad to hear the wait was worthwhile

4 weeks post-interview today. Should be getting that letter any day now! Aaaaany day!

haha, except no. I'm going to estimate it'll be another 14-18 weeks, judging by the other people here. Time to buckle down...

10 weeks for me.... but you never know, for some people it took only 5 weeks 🙂

I interviewed on 2/1 and some people (at least 2 so far here) who interviewed much later than me, i.e. mid feb, already got their acceptance. How should I interpret that, my fellow SDNers? What does that mean?

EDIT: My file has just been updated from "review by a committee member" to "Your file is currently under review by the admissions committee" today. I checked last night, it was by the former!

I interviewed early- to mid-Feb, and my status is still "your interview has been scheduled." The fact that your status is already on the admission committee level is a good sign! From what most people on here have posted, it seems like you should be on track to have a decision in a couple weeks. As for me....I'm just hoping I have a decision before May

I just got the Acceptance Letter today also! I interviewed January 12th and had the "A Final Decision has been reached" status.

Interviewed: 1/14
Decision has been reached: 3/24
Waitlist: 3/29

@hockyfan...was a decision has been made or a FINAL decision has been made in your status?

A logical deduction between "a decision" and "a final decision" have been reached is that the former could allude to "Waitlisting" category while the latter to either accepted or rejected post-interview. What say you, guys and gals?

I took the liberty to review most of this thread to either ACCEPT or REJECT the above hypothesis. So far, the data seem to suggest that at least anecdotally my hypothesis is correct. Below is a list of SDNers who posted on this thread and have revealed their fate here:

I. A FINAL DECISION HAS BEEN REACHED:

i) Final decision and Rejected😡: ek1099 and djd2187, etc.

ii) Final decision and Accepted👍: doxycycline, royalewthcheese, johnnyExtra, reidmike, LAS10886m eNVykillaBeez, sportsfreak, Sun Dog, Vitruveanly, ItsaMarathon, ROGI, fishjj06...etc

II. A DECISION HAS BEEN REACHED:

iii) Decision (not final) and Waitlisted:xf:: ashbabe, herewego, hockyfan.

Here is what I notice during my review: If you receive a Final Decision status and receive a background email, I am almost certain that you are accepted. However, if you receive a Final Decision status and a background email does not follow soon, it is pretty much a rejection. However, this seems to happen after January 1st of the admission cycle!

Moreover, it seems that the committee meet sometimes on Tuesday, Wednesday, or on both day. This is because most people notice the change of their status either on Wednesday or Thursday, suggesting that the committee the day before.

Lastly, i may not spell the above user names correctly and I apologize in advance..

NOW WHAT SAY YOU???

I say maybe you should hurry up and publish this research and send Drexel an update letter to inform them. Couldn't hurt, right?

I had a Final Decision notice and was accepted on Wednesday. However, I still have not received my background check email yet. So, no background check doesn't always mean rejection!
