the same thing happened to me. i was delayed for 10 hours getting into raleigh durham and got to my student host's place at like 2 AM. then i was up at 6:30 to get ready for the interview 😴

i really thought i bombed too but i guess you never know. good luck!

Yeah I missed my flight because of Air Force 1 taking off at the same time. It delayed everything and I missed my connection. I had to spend the night in another city, then take a VERY early flight out (2am Pacific Time) to finally make it to the interview day 3 hours late. I was half asleep... I hope I didn't miss much at the beginning.

Thanks jla314 for the encouragement. Makes me feel so much better, like I actually have a chance.

Dear DukeMed,

If I do not receive an acceptance to your fine institution this week, I will curse your men's basketball team. Not only this year, but for-ev-er (see "The Sandlot" for proper pronunciation).

Thank you for your understanding. Go Blue Devils!

I love that you just quoted the Sandlot...

Ah, accepted! Minneasota, interview on campus Feb 8. Good luck to those still waiting!

Bumping NY....... nobody in New York state has received an acceptance? (who is reading sdn)

I find that sorta strange.....considering the amount of applicants/population. Is our mail system in NY cruddy?

i'm going to pray that it IS cruddy..and that the fat packet will arrive tomorrow =(. NYC here haven't heard a peep.

Upstate and nothing..... I wonder if upstate mail goes through the city (nyc) before hitting upstate from the South..... it might explain something......or be VERY wishful thinking.

Good luck dude......:luck::xf::luck:

so far all the acceptances on SDN seem to be on campus interviews...this either means
the regional and virtual interview people got their acceptances sent later
the regional and virtual interview people refuse to respond abt their acceptances on SDN
Duke does not issue out acceptances to people who did not interview on campus

This is how i spend my free time...as i wait

Hey! We go to school together! Congrats! What's your major??

Are you leaning towards going to Duke?

YES!!!!!!!! Congrats E.

Accepted in Pacific Northwest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to both of you! Is there any chance either of you end up at Duke? Jerew, it looks like you're intent on California Dreamin'. I don't blame you after living in MN...

Bigman, are you just waiting on Penn Med now?? Waiting until the end of March for that is going to be just brutal...

hmmm looks like if you didnt get something in the mail today, you didnt get in.

It certainly feels like that. I hope they are sending these acceptances out in batches because if they already sent out every one of them for today's distribution, then 🙁

I did the virtual interview from Maryland.

Well, according to the person who called in a couple pages back, not all the acceptances have been mailed out yet, so perhaps there's still hope 🙂.

Hang in there, folks!

on 3/8 in LA 🙂

I thought I failed at both interviews so it was a huge surprise!

Good luck!

i have nothing against duke, its a nice place.

but i wish they would interview less students (even if that means i wouldnt have got one). when a school has such a small class size and then interviews a boat load of people, that equates to a lot of really expensive rejections.

I think this goes for a lot of other schools too. However, I think Duke states it's trying to find those "diamonds in the rough." So they give people who might not otherwise get an interview the opportunity to demonstrate what makes them special, in spite of past blemishes.

I think I prefer the Duke approach over the Stanford one (super selective interview allocation). I mean, really, how much can you get out of a paper application? We could be sociopaths with good writing skills for all they know... as are many of us on SDN .

Then there's the Vandy approach (sorry to use Vandy, it's unique), which I find a bit unusual. I thought it was awesome to get an interview before I filled out a secondary. That was when my goal was to get an interview. In retrospect, I would much rather have a committee review my secondary and THEN decide to offer an interview. I think it's a bit more logical and doesn't waste anyone's time/$.

your points are valid. but i dont think you get much out of a 30min interview either. considering you never really get grilled (with exception), the interviews all seem to go the same.

i just find it disheartening when i read that people got accepted after having a ****ty interview... especially if i have a great interview and get waitlisted/rejected. its like 'wats the point of the interview?!'

It definitely sucks, but I think Duke has a points-based system. In that framework, a poor/average interview can be overcome by superior stats/ECs.

In that admissions viewbook posted a while ago, it says that only applicants receiving an average 4/5 from their two interviewers move on to be considered by the final committee. But the interviewers seem generous enough that 450/750 interviewees make it past that cut

That's true. If 450 people make it to the next stage, they must be very generous in their numbering. I suppose it's reasonable to reject about 40% post interview and have the remainder undergo committee review.

For those who thought interviews went a certain way, it's really hard to say if they did or not. The interviewer's perception may be completely different than your own. It's akin to when you tape yourself speaking. If you have ever given a speech and then watched it on tape, you'll notice a lot more things that you do well or very poorly. What you see later may not correspond to how you felt it went in practice.

Accepted 3/09/10 via snail mail! The letter comes in a letter-sized manila envelope that says "(the future) Dr. XXXX XXXX", so you kinda know it's good new.

I agree with other that interviews must be weighted somewhat less than at other schools. I felt like my interviews (both of them) when kinda mediocre, but it obviously didn't hurt me too badly.

I also wonder if Duke just has its interviewers give more formal interviews on purpose? This would maybe make people feel like they hadn't done as well, when in fact it's just the way they want it. So, that would give a lot of false impressions that interviews "went badly" when in fact they did fine. Just a thought.

Sir, you just gave me great hope that I might yet get accepted today. Thanks =)

congrats! also, you get your mail before 9am? Where do you live?

for those who've been accepted, i've got a question: i am at home and so i can't get my mail. What size is the manila envelope (by letter size do you mean like 9 by 12?) i'm only asking bc i have a very small mailbox, and i have a friend who can check to see if a giant envelope is waiting outside... haha i know, way to be neurotic

9 by 12, but pretty thin.

Anyone know when revisit is? I don't think it said in the packet?

Waitlist. Is it weird that I would've preferred a rejection to a waitlist? I'm not sure I can/will wait around until May

I'll take your waitlist. Damn, so I guess they are sending the waitlists out separate from the rejections? If I didn't get a WL email, or a packet yesterday, it doesn't look good 🙁

I keep checking back on my mailbox and closing my eyes like something bad is coming at me lol. fail!

I'm dying. This is tragic. All the WL going out now...so, only thing left is rejections.

DukeJen, aren't you abroad?? I imagine it will take a while for any package to get to you, so sit tight and goodluck!

WL email this morning =\ mannn oh well. i'm going to stay on it, but like people have said, it's rough to have to consider waiting another 2 months or so

I am abroad- but all of my mail should go home to my parents in California. They didn't get anything yesterday.

Besides, I know that Duke Med is a dream and a reach, so as much as I want to be hopeful, the reality is that people getting accepted have much better stats than me.

This is an exacting board! Let me revise:

Accepted 03/08/2010 via snail mail. My mail would've been delivered, but my wife and I forgot to check the box until 10pm. Hence, my 03/09/2010 post. My apologies!

As for location, I live 1 state away from NC.

It's not directly in front of me, but I think it was a 10x13.
