For those of you who wrote one of those letters to Ms. Sullivan, did she ever respond back? I sent my follow up letter like a week ago attached as a .doc file and she never responded to me--I'm a bit worried as I really want to go here!

Yeah, she responded back to me the same day I sent it... did you send it directly to her email address?

Who all is heading to second look and where are people staying? Do they do student hosting for that day by chance? I need to get plane tickets....

I probably won't go to Second day since it'll cost $250+ (airplane + hotel). I recommend virgin american airlines since they're cheap and luxuriously comfortable to fly on.

Haha, that's all the tickets cost? It is going to probably be around $700 for me to fly out of here and get a hotel! Its expensive to go anywhere from the West Coast.

Wow that's alot. I'm from CA and it doesn't cost me that much. Where you live?

I am in the CAP, but I am not writing a letter. I don't know if you want a category for that too so you know how many who wrote the letter get in?

yeah, as an attachment here too. maybe she went on vacation...?
Lets hope so! I sent her another quick friendly email since its been like a week and a half with no response. I don't wanna push but I do want to make sure she gets it since I loved the school when I visited! Contrary to what someone said a couple pages back, the community of students struck me as really genuinely happy.

damn so I guess gtown isnt one of those schools that pay for your second look? bummer 👎

WOULD IF I would get off the darn waitlist! :scared:

I wonder if you could write another letter letting them know how genuinely interested you are. I feel pretty confident you'll get in because you're just as good if not a better applicant than me and you actually WILL go here if you get accepted. Maybe another letter couldn't hurt? IDK. Good luck dude, I'm 95% sure I'm going here next year so I've got to look out for my future classmates. Hang in there. I'm pretty sure we're all pulling for you on here!

I think I might end up doing that sometime in March or April if I'm not off the CAP by then. I figure I haven't written since November so hopefully it wouldn't bug them too much and would show them I'm still interested! I have faith mrmilad and I will both get the acceptance eventually🙂

Who all is heading to second look and where are people staying? Do they do student hosting for that day by chance? I need to get plane tickets....

I am going to take the Greyhound bus down from NYC thursday night after work. Luckily it will only cost about 35 dollars one way. Staying with friends in the DC area. You should call the office about student hosting. They may be able to set you up with someone if its just for the night and its not short notice.

Wow that's alot. I'm from CA and it doesn't cost me that much. Where you live?

A state with far fewer people and airports than CA 🙄. The cheapest flight for any airport close to me would be about $400ish. Then there is hotel for like $150 a night and I would have to stay two nights at least...and food and transportation....And I was going to bring my fiance along since he probably should get to know whatever med school I end up at....Dang it I was hoping I wouldn't have to go into horrific debt until I actually had to write my first tuition check!

Side note: Where do most students live? And what kind of rent should I be expecting?

My wife and I are flying out and staying with a relative so it doesn't look like we will have to pay too much. Does anyone know whether or not it is okay to bring a spouse or family member to the second look day? I mean is it the really organized the kind of thing where they are expecting you and just you or is it casual and more laid back? If it's the former my wife doesn't mind looking around the neighborhoods and following up on apartments but otherwise I'd like for her to see what the school is like.

As for living, we have been looking into the Rosslyn and Dupont Circle areas. They each have a free bus that goes to gtown and are near metros. Cost wise, they seem better than the georgetown area.

i was thinking about living (probably trying to find a roommate as well) in virginia on the busline. Rosslyn seems like a pretty good place to be and there are a lot of apartment complexes. Im looking forward to the 2nd look to find out more info.

I just called to ask. They said it's okay, they will be allowed to attend, but no programs or sessions are geared for them.

They make it seem like they have housing/hosting for the night before, since they keep telling us that more info about that is coming..then again, I can't tell if they mean housing for 2nd look or housing for like, when we move to DC for the academic year. Kind of a big difference, haha.

Oh, thanks. Are you bringing your spouse?

Oh, thanks. Are you bringing your spouse?

Probably will to DC so we can look for housing and surrounding areas that weekend, but not to the GU events. I imagine it would be horribly boring and confusing for them if they sat there for several hours hearing about the curriculum. Which brings up the question, does anyone know what usually happens during these 2nd looks? Do they really talk about the curriculum a second time and give another tour?

take DC2NY or Bolt bus. there are many others just like it from DC to NYC and vice versa. all much cheaper, and by much cheaper i mean under 20 bucks roundtrip with free wifi. drop you off closer to georgetown too.

Look at courthouse. I have lived in arlington for the last 3 years. Rosslyn is a miserable place that is overpriced. the distance is far enough from GU where you still wont walk. courthouse and clarendon are one and two metro stops away respectively and dont completely die at 530pm when everyone leaves work (youd be living amid empty corporate buildings). the housing is the same price, more modern, much nicer and just as convenient along with places to eat, go out and grocery shop.

also for that list: I: 10/28 Cap: first week, Dec still waiting on response.

GU is one of the only schools im considering so keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah my fiance is planing on coming to DC with me but I don't know if she'll come to the GU events either. She's going to law school in DC next year so she has all of her stuff to take care of while we're there. I wish I knew a little more about what will be going on though.

Also, anyone know if there are research positions available for us to apply for this summer before we start? May be too late to apply but I thought I'd see if anyone had heard anything.

Is anyone thinking about trying to go a different day? March 12 is looking worse and worse for me to get over there. Do you think the admissions office would mind if I visited, say, in April? Is it that important to go to the specific second look day?

i bet they would not mind, perhaps they could set you up with a student to shadow?

I will be coming for the 2nd look day, found a very cheap flight into baltimore.

So if the second look day is March 12, I'm assuming that we'll all hear decisions before then? Is that right?

The Admissions office at GU has been very helpful. A lot of questions posted here, they will answer and are super friendly. Mrs. Sullivan has been awesome with getting back with questions. And that really reflects well on the school in my opinion.

But heres the bad news guys...most of the CAP movement is in May. I have a few friends there that got off the CAP and all 3 of them came off in May. The reason...May 15 is the last day someone with acceptances can hold more than one. So while Im sure some of us will be getting off the CAP until before then, most wont.

Im staying patient until then. Anything before then will be a tremendous surprise.

I was referring more to post-interview decisions, like acceptance/CAP/rejection. I interviewed beginning of January and haven't heard anything at all yet.

But I hope those of you on the CAP hear good news soon!

Thanks. I will look into them. I usually take the Chinatown bus which is also pretty cheap but its sketchy at times (fights, weird riders, old sometimes broken buses) so I wanted to look for another cheap route.

No i don't think that is the case. Schools commonly give out decisions a day before, on the day of, or after the second look date.

ya, think CUBR is right on that one.

has anyone who is coming to the 2nd look day tried to schedule a fin. aid meeting with dean pollock's office?

Yeah, I sent Dean Pollock an e-mail like they said and he hasn't responded..

What is usually discussed during these meetings? Are they able to do anything before giving out your financial aid package?

Yeah, I sent Dean Pollock an e-mail like they said and he hasn't responded..

ok thanks for letting me, i have not yet received a response either.

I am not sure; probably procedure, costs, loan repayment process, and steps that must be taken for loans at specifically gtown (other forms to file)

So I have an interview at GT next week and was wondering how hard it is going to be to get around DC what with all the snow they are getting right now. I'm coming in from California, which has been 50-60 for the past few weeks.

Monday it is supposed to snow a little bit apparently. Around 30% chance. As it is now, it would suck to try to travel through DC but by next week it should be better if they do a good job of clearing roads and putting salt down.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting around next week if you stay near campus. I wouldn't stay near a Metro train that is above ground in case they stop train service again because of the weather.

And the closer you are to Dupont Circle (DC) or Rosslyn (VA), the easier it will be for you to take a GUTS bus.

The roads are GREAT right now on major arteries in the city compared to 24-48 hours ago.

Has anyone who has RSVPed to the second look day heard back? Also, has anyone heard back about getting an appointment with Financial Aid?

I got a reply a few days after I sent my RSVP for Second Look, but still no response from Financial Aid. Maybe they will schedule everyone and then get back to us..?

I just got an email this morning about my Financial Aid appointment. I still haven't gotten anything about my RSVP. Have they firmed up the schedule any more than the loose outline they already had? Also, what are people wearing to this thing? It is business casual, right?

Anyone had an idea of when the next round of post-interview decisions will be going out? How often does the admissions committee meet?

There hasn't been much waitlist action either. Hmmmphh.

I was wondering this also, I interviewed beginning of Jan so we should be semi-soon right?
