2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i really don't know. widener has four interview days that they posted on their website. i assumed they do it in groups. like the first group is for those who have the best credentials, second group for next best, etc. i could be wrong, but thats what i thought. either way, i don't care, as long as they invited me for an interview!! i wouldn't care if it was on their fourth date! i'm just thrilled to be invited 🙂

Congrats on your interview! I actually don't think the interviews are ranked as you suggested, based on the fact that the first round of Widener invites went out a full week before the application deadline. So I think (I could be totally wrong) that all of the groups they invite are equally qualified, and it's all just a matter of when they actually look at your application that determines when you get an interview. Here's hoping we both get in!

Hey guys! It says that University of Houston Clinical Ph.D invites went out today...anyone know more about that? Like was it a certain POI or the department, etc?

Thanks!

IBS5002 and lamorena -- Congratulations! Which tracks and/or dual degree programs did you apply to/express interest in at Widener?

Hey all,

I've updated what schools are new/updated on the list; I'll add in all the info tomorrow morning when I'm not so tired (another day of traveling today, a phone interview tomorrow, and an in-person interview Friday).

You rock! How many more interviews do you have after this week?

Has anyone heard anything about the experimental psychopathology track? I was wondering if those invites had gone out at all.

I received a call yesterday from the psychology department secretary for an interview at Pace. Interviews are Monday February 8 and Friday February 12.

Can the person who got this also fill me in too? Thanks!

I had my SFU phone interview 6 days ago and I haven't heard anything back yet. To those of you who also received SFU interviews, are you in the same boat? Should I send a follow up email?

I'm one of the people that got an invite, but my POI is also the DCT, so I don't know! But it was Dr. Vincent (DCT and also POI) that called me and also sent an email.

I was told that they were going to make their decisions before the Olympics started (so soon!) and that we would be notified of our admissions decision by mail...so i think all we can do is wait...and worry!

...this can't be good for my blood pressure

It appears that York's Combined: clinical-developmental stream has started to extend invites...any word on when other invites might be going out?

The good news is that the interview isn't until 2/22 so they probably only just starting contacting people. Maybe 😕

I think someone posted in the Ontario schools thread that they didn't hear about the adult clinical stream until 2/20 last year... but it seems like a number of schools have deviated from their interview invite timeline as compared to last year, so who knows.

So I was all pumped about interviewing for PhD programs only to be turned down by all but the PsyD program I applied to. Does anyone have any advice for how to approach an interview for a PsyD program? Do I pretty much read up on the program and think about what I want to get out of the experience and come up with relevant questions? I'm interviewing with multiple profs, so I don't know if there's much advantage in reading up on everyone's research and interests.

Any input would be much appreciated!

I would prepare the same way. For example, know what the professors in the program are up to, figure out why you would be an asset to that program. Also, make sure you know the dynamics of the program. Another important thing may be to know what they would idealy like their students to be doing after graduation. I hope this helps

Hey All,

anyone hear back (or waiting to hear back) from UVA (not Curry) regarding interviews? Any info would be appreciated

I received the call from my POI last week. It was a phone interview. UIUC has a different admissions process - but similar to Harvard and Yale they do phone interviews with top finalists and then do a visiting weekend once admitted. There is some stuff in between there that my POI explained to me, but I can't find the paper where I wrote it all down.

Edit: I'm the 1/27 person. As for user who heard on 1/25- I would guess that they meant phone interview invite as well.

that makes more sense. Thank you!

I had my interview on Monday but I know that they plan to have 6 interview days total so I don't think all their invites have gone out yet....

Thanks for letting me know! if you don't mind me asking, who and how did they contact you?

I've only heard back from half my schools (4 invites, 1 rejection, 1 waitlist). I just needed to express my impatience and this board seemed like the most appropriate place to do it.

Two rejections, and nothing else. Most of my schools are on the list, so I'm pretty sure I'll be back for round 2 next year 👎

This is my round two, and if it's any consolation it gets easier the second time. Here's to hoping I'm not doing a round three :scared:

I feel your pain...I'm still waiting to hear from University of Nevada Reno...no call no letter no nothing 😕 Can those of you who got invitations please PM me you POI or PM me and I'll tell you mine and you can say yes or no. UNR is my top choice and I'm nervous

Would the person (or people) who got invites from the University of Rochester be able to send me a PM with the name of their POI? Also, was it from the Clinical/Social program or Brain/Cognitive?

I haven't heard from UVA (A&S) either.

Personally, I think it is not too smart for schools to notify us this late in the game. I think I only have 2 days left in the whole month I would be able to interview. I'm not about to go and change my flights around, esp. since most of my "top" choices have already gotten back to me. Even though three of my schools have still not offered invites, I have basically written them off in my mind b/c I feel like I've been waiting so long and have been focusing on the interviews I already have. I wish there was some standard deadline (like Feb. 1 or so) schools had to notify us about interview invitations. Anyone else agree?

On another note - I have stopped looking at my online bank account balance. As happy as I am to have interviews, I do not enjoy seeing my account balance get smaller and smaller by the week as I buy flights, a new suit, etc. Ahhhh!!!

COuld the person who got the UMass Boston invite PLEASE PM me so I can know if we have have the same POI?? Thanks a million.

RE: UMass Boston.

I got a call from Jean Rhodes, who is not my POI BUT is interested in me working with her...

I really hope I don't have to do a round two. But if I do, at least I won't have to retake the GRE's! I'd probably just focus more on m fit if I do return into the applicant pool next year.

So i heard from one person and who their POI was for U Missouri St Louis, but there is like at least 1 or 2 other people that got calls or emails from POIs? can you message me so i can tell you my POIs and if they match? Just curious I know their system is messed atm but I am still curious if at least one of my POIs has communicated yet.

Thanks

I'm also interested in people's POIs from UNR...pretty please with sugar and cream on top 😛

I also have not heard from UVA. They are one of the last schools I am waiting to hear from. I agree there should be some kind of deadline for this. It should be considered torture making us wait this long...

UVA is the only school I applied to not on the list. Looking at last year's thread, it looks like they didn't even invite people until 2/10!! And I'm in the same boat where I don't really have time to do any more interviews.

I received a call yesterday from the psychology department secretary for an interview at Pace. Interviews are Monday February 8 and Friday February 12.

Hi I don't understand how you could have already heard from them since the deadline was only a few days ago! (Feb 1). Are you an international student?

Has anyone heard anything from Fairleigh Dickinson? I finally emailed just to confirm all my materials are there (no confirmation from them at all ever) and found out interviews are Feb 13 and 14. I think I have to assume I'm not getting an invite, but haven't seen any invite listings from anyone else on here yet so I wonder if they have sent any out yet (cutting it a little close aren't they? not much time to plan).

Got an email this morning that my POI already sent out invites (and one to me was not among them) - PM if you want to know who... at least I'm not waiting anymore
🙁

I literally just received an email from FDU. The interviews are the 13th the 14th.

How did they notify you? This is one of my top choices! Time to freak out! Ahhhhhhh

No, don't freak out. They have not started making phone calls but they will tomorrow. I called the program office and my name was on the list to be interviewed.
