2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone else not heard anything yet? Granted, only 2 of my 8 schools are on the list lol, but I feel nervous regardless. 6 more chances...

Still waiting on 9 more schools....which none of them are on the list!

I'm so nervous too! I haven't heard anything yet either, but my 9 schools aren't on the list so I know this is irrational. Everything works out, right? Good luck to everyone in these upcoming weeks!

I am new to this site, how do I PM a invitation date?

scroll over the name of the OP (futurepsyapp), then click on "send private message" once the option menu drops down. hope this helps!

So I am at 33% so far (2 for 6) but the last 4 schools came post-christmas while the first two came pre-christmas, I must be running thin on the luck 🙂.

Aside from Drexel, the other three schools (FSU, Alabama, and Vermont) were kind of filler schools, but still it sucks to not get invites 🙂.

Lets hope next week I have some better luck!

Would love if the people who received invites at UConn, Denver and/or Michigan could send me their POIs. If you are not comfortable, don't worry! I'll continue to play the waiting game...

starting to lose hope. only 2 of my schools are not on the list and they were both reaches...sad day

My friend who's not on this site got an email from her POI at Concordia University (Montreal, Research and Clinical Training Option). Only this particular POI sent out emails but the planned interview date is end of January, can't confirm date, sorry. She was saying interviews might be on a personal basis with the POI.

I haven't heard anything either--after applying to 15 schools! Granted, only 2 of them are on the list, one of which was a reach school, but still---its feels so strange to see the list growing every day, but still be in the dark! I keep checking past year threads, so I know the majority of my schools don't send invites until the last week in January, but still....gah! 🙂

Hey all-

As all of you are I am on edge here. I just saw that someone received an invite via snail mail (yesterday!!). I am hoping that was just a straight up interview and not just a confirmation letter. If who ever received the letter could let me know if it was their first notice via snail mail or just follow up I would appreciate it!...

Ugggggg I hate this waiting stuff. One interview so far but I would love an interview at UWM!

Thank you in advance!

For whoever got the University of Vermont interviews, if you wouldn't mind sending me your POI it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

i just heard from UVM that the faculty meets on 1/20. did someone actually get an invite?

So, to my knowledge the first interviews for some schools are coming within a week. Are we going to start a new thread so the people who interview can announce whether they have been accepted/waitlisted/rejected etc?

There is a rejection thread already started, but I don't know about waitlists and acceptances.

There is already a rejection thread - moderated by PrisonPsych. I imagine someone will start an acceptance thread and a waitlist thread when the time comes, judging by previous years. Feel free to start one if you like!

I received an invite from Yeshiva University from an admissions secretary. The e-mail says I have an individual interview with a faculty member on 2/1 and it gives the name of the faculty member but it is not one of the POIs that I indicated on my application. Does that mean they are matching me with someone else or is your individual interview routinely with a faculty member other than your POI??

Those where phone screening interviews from a POI, not all of them do it, and who knows why a POI does it or doesnt do it... Is it because the POI is stuck between two candidates (i.e., giving an interview to one or not the other) or if the POI actually wants to screen ALL the people he wants to have an interview with.

Lets hope for some luck though cause I wouldnt mind an interview at UVM

So if someone DOES start an acceptance thread, it should be an acceptance/waitlist thread, not two separate htreads... It would be nice if it is similar to this thread, in that, it has dates etc...

Would be even cooler if people were not shy or worry about POIs and state who they are (i.e., AlaskanJustin - UofX Interview 1-28-10, accepted 2-2-10) etc

i mean why wouldnt you? You are already accepted not like anything will change that

Um actually I don't think that's true. Acceptances can and have been rescinded in the past by various different schools (first example that comes to mind is Harvard Business School, etc.). Most schools (undergraduate institutions included) reserve this right (in the fine print). I don't see why graduate schools would be any different.

Of course, I mean if all of a sudden funding is gone then you might not get it, but let me put it this way, what about saying where you got in would constitute a sudden rejection? If anything it shows you are proud of where you got in?

Oh no I completely agree (i.e., I don't think that should be grounds for rejection or that it even is at all likely) - but it could be possible - and for people who are especially paranoid or private, it may just not be worth the risk. You never know the random POI who appreciates the privacy of his decisions (esp. before the student has accepted the acceptance).

I know it's really rare - but I think the same motivation that plays into people not revealing their POIs on this interview thread could understandably reoccur in the acceptance thread (i.e., possibility of being perceived badly by a potential POI). Esp. if there is even a tiny possibility that your acceptance could be rescinded. I just wouldn't push people to reveal it unless they were truly comfortable revealing the information at that point in time (much like this thread).

Whoa, I've been neglecting this board! Could someone PM me with your UConn POI, please?

I've heard back from one school so far and got an interview. UConn is the only other one of my school sending out invites already. According to last year's thread, this week and next will be busy weeks for invites from most programs. Good luck all!!!

agreed... gee here I am thinking I am paranoid cause I am pretty sure the G-men are reading and hearing my every word.... whole new level though...

So I would then say If a person does not feel comfortable saying who they are then at least should give the latter info, i.e., date of interview and date of acceptance/waitlist

Totally. I thought it'd also be interesting to know if they accepted the acceptance (what an awkward phrasing) - but I think that would be too complicated to document (esp. for applicants who need to wait to decide) lol.

Could anyone who has received an interview invite from either UConn or UVM please PM me the name of the POI? Again, I completely understand if you don't want to, but I'd greatly appreciate it if you would be willing to.

Hey--I'm new here. I got an email and phone calls yesterday (1/12) from Penn State telling me they want me to interview 2/19-2/20.

Some of my other schools are on the list posted above and I'm nervous. ETS screwed up sending my GRE Psych scores, and I'm worried that killed my chances at a bunch of schools because they might have just received the scores last week (I saw U mass Boston only posted mine on the 11th....) Do you think I can still get an interview?

Also, for anyone interested-- Eastern Michigan U said they would alert you if you receive an interview tomorrow (1/14) night. Good luck!!

Was your Penn State invite for the adult or child track? Thanks!

Anybody know if GWU gave out all their PsyD invites today, or will they continue to extend them tomorrow and later this week?

I received the interview invite yesterday, and was told to call back today with the day I preferred to be interviewed on along with different times, on a first come, first served basis. When I did, I got the date I wanted and was told emails will be sent out to interviewees tomorrow confirming interview dates.

That's all the info I've got, sorry to not be of more help.

I also applied to Boston College and University of Wisconsin Madison's Counseling Psychology PhD programs. Boston College said emails will go out by the end of the month. Wisconsin said that we should receive emails next week to set up phone interviews. I hope that helps! This process is really starting to get to me! 😱

Kind of weird but I got an email today from uconn clinical that they are going over apps now and professors are beginning to contact students they are interested in themselves. Just thought I'd share

I got an email today from University of Montana saying that they were just starting to go over applications now and would be sending out invites in a few weeks (give or take I suppose).

Same here

Wow, this thread has almost 50,000 views already!

Thinking about it, I am really on this thing quite frequent.... frequent enough to make hourly updates so if no one else starts the acceptance/waitlist thread I will

someone said there was a rejection thread. Where exactly is it..or...has anyone been flat out rejected yet? My poor nerves. I'm an adrenaline junkie, but this is very different

We could all use a little therapy after April.

Is hope lost for people who did not hear from a school that is listed? Or do invites come out over the course of a week or so? I am also interested in who the POI is for for the University of Vermont people. Congratulates on the invite though!

I'm dying to hear from UCLA. Anyone know anything?

Their committee usually meets on a Tuesday, and probably next week. Historically, their interviews are a Thursday-Saturday thing during the first full week of February.
