This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

please include this information in your PM to the OP!

edited to say that I don't mean to yell in this post, but this information is important! 🙂

To whomever has received an invitation at University of Miami, when are their interviews?

Congratulations!

Hi All,
I just joined and seem to be in the same UCSB boat. UCSB and Alabama were my top picks. I was wondering if those of you that have received interviews from UCSB and/or Alabama wouldn't mind letting me know your POI's so I can take a breath or start the letting go process.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Interviews are the weekend of 2/19 - 20. My POI mentioned that many other POI's have not yet contacted their invitees, so please don't stress if you haven't heard anything yet...

Everyone excited for next week? History indicates that things really start to pick up this week and next.

My record thus far is good (1 interview, no rejections, 18 no news), but I can't help but be anxious!

It doesn't help that I just realized that I missed a deadline for one of my schools. I had it marked on my spreadsheets as 1/1, but have since found out that it was 12/15! This after my POI sent me a very encouraging email. Oh well, it wasn't at the top of my list and I expected to mess at least one up!

Good luck in the coming week everyone!:luck:

Thanks PhD C.. good luck to you too!

hahahaha man if anyone is in the need of entertainment, read the first page of posts (about 1/4 way down) on the 2007/08 Interview Thread, lol someone wanted people to list stats so the people started listing their height, weight, etc.... pretty funny 🙂

Just received a voicemail from the DCT/POI (same person) for the Clinical Psych Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities program for Ohio State. This is NOT the Clinical Psych program - it is specialized.

Will post when I know the date of the interview 🙂

And don't worry - I'm pretty sure that it is just my POI doing invites today...

Good luck all!

Updated - Interview is 1/28 and 1/29 (all day both days). Unclear if this is only for Clinical-IDD or for both that and regular Clinical...

I made that mistake, too!! I knew the deadline, but for some reason with the craziness before the holidays I just forgot to submit the online app. Everything was mailed before the deadline (Jan 5), but I just realized this yesterday!! 🙁

Invite to interview from Purdue Counseling on 2/5. Dr. Heather Servaty-Seib, Training Director called me at 3:30pm on 1/11/2010!

I received a phone message last week for an interview invite.
I returned the call the next day as soon as I could.

I then called again a few days later and left a message as well.

It has now been a week since the first call and 3 days since my last message. The person did make it seem like it would be hard to get ahold of him/her, but I still haven't heard back.

I sent an e-mail stating that I had received the message (since this is how i contacted the POI in the first place and had good success). I also stated that I wasn't sure if I had the right # when I called last week.

Any other suggestions?

Looking for some perspectives...

One of the emails I have received regarding detailed info about an upcoming interview was sent to all the students (4 of them total) who were interested in working with a particular POI. Since the addresses were not Bcc'd, I did a little looking and found that one of the other interviewees is a current MS student who has worked (and even PUBLISHED) with this POI. I can't help but wonder if I am just filler? If I do have a fair shot, any advice for the interview?

Thanks!

Just remember that your POI could accept 2 students, and if he/she were certain that he/she wanted to accept that one student, he/she would probably just do it and not invite others (assuming that student agreed to go there already).

high five at reading my mind while I was reading that! Also, I think your point is true about whether the person accepted or not... Maybe that person will find another program they like more? Then that faculty member would be SOL... so the POI is at least covering their basis as well...

So basically go in with confidence, and maybe show the POI why you are better candidate than the masters student? 🙂

I saw a couple folks on here asking about USC and I am going to assume that you are talking about Southern California since that is what I am referencing here. I've been reading this forum for a while and decided it's time for me to share some info too. I actually already interviewed at USC last week. While there my POI told me that this year they decided to have each Prof do their own thing as far as contacting and interviewing their applicants (so I believe that my POI was on the early end of this process since I was contacted in Dec.) They would then meet as a Dept and decide if they still need to have an official interview weekend. Sounds pretty confusing and unorganized to me, so I am still not really sure where I stand. But I hope this helps some of you.

Could you PM me with your POI?

This is very similar to how U Minnesota clinical phd works... then if accepted you come for an orientation type thing in March so they can tease you with the goods before April 15th 🙂

ps this is also very similar to how most grad programs work, POIs bring you out individually.

In my experience it is rare not to have an official interview weekend. I applied two years ago and was invited to 7 interviews, all of which were with all applicants, and most of the invites did not even come from my POI, but from the DCT, an administrative asst. or a grad student. And all the other invites I have received so far this year have been for an official interview weekend. So I was surprised to hear of the lack of a structure to USC's interviewing/admission process, but obviously all programs are different and perhaps you have had different experiences.

by other graduate programs I am implying things like chemistry, physics, math etc not psych programs 🙂

Wow, seems like a quiet day for interviews. Then again, I'll bet those of us who didn't hear anything are happy that not many were given out today.

Hey,
Does it look bad if you don't pick up the phone if a professor calls to give you an interview? I work, sometimes in a basement with no reception, and can't always answer the phone, but I don't want them to think I'm screening.

I've actually been told by multiple professors and grad students that you should screen your calls because you never want to be caught off guard and not fully prepared. IMO i wouldn't worry about it and just call back when you can.

I almost NEVER answer my phone if it's a phone number I don't recognize for this exact reason. There's no reason to answer while your in the grocery store, at work, out to lunch, or any situation where you cannot give your full attention with silence in the background.

The same applies when I'm waiting for a potential employer to call. Wait until you can place yourself in a quiet place, and until you can prepare yourself for the conversation, then call them back.

Could the person who received an invite from University of Miami please PM me the name of your POI? Thanks!

Could the person who received an invite from UMass Amherst PM me with their POI? Thanks!

Received email invite from POI for interview. UCONN's interviews are to be held last week of February.

Still just barely in the running... 😳

Would you mind telling me who your POI is? congratsss!

Hm I Predict it will be a SLOW week for everyone (since I have been wrong this whole time anyways, maybe the trend shall continue)... None of the schools will contact people this week, sorry.

I submitted my on-line app a week before Dec 1 deadline. Around Dec 20, I got a call from dept asking for my transcripts although I had carried them to Grad Division per a dept employee's request around Nov 24. On Dec 23, I scrambled to get together another set of transcripts and drive it to campus to give directly to the psych department this time. Considering that at least one person has had an interview prior to Jan 9, does this mean those of us applicants who have not received a phone call or an invite are done (rejected)? Or should those of us who haven't heard get ready for an interview just in case?

Clinical Dreamer, do you know or have you worked with profs in the department at USC? What is your research focus? Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
LM

CUNY Graduate Center Clinical Psychology Program:

Request for interview received 1/12/10 via email.

Just a heads up to those of you who may have applied to University of Central Florida. I work as a undergrad RA in the psych dept. and have heard that invites are going out tomorrow (1/13). Not sure how accurate this is, but they will prob come soon.

Hello! HealthPsy, would you mind PMing with the name of your POI? Congratulations & good luck.

To the good folks requesting that I PM my POI, I extend my regrets. It feels like a breech of the POI's trust to do so. Several of the schools I've applied to are already listed here, and I haven't requested others' POIs either, just so you know that I'm well aware of the 2-edged sword I'm wielding here...

Again sorry, and best of luck to all!
