2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got an email from DCT for interview invite from George Washington University's Clinical PhD program. 🙂 Third interview invite so far, all in the DC metro area. (looks like I might stay here after all). 😀

Was it a mass e-mail?

Updated--with LOTS of PsyD info and some PhD info. Congrats to all!

As we near the end of invite season, what schools are you still waiting for?

Please don't refer to this as the end of invite season! I have only received one interview - still waiting on 5! I'm banking on a busy week of invites!

LOL to "end of invite season" I'm still waiting to hear from:
LIU BK
LIU CW post
Hofstra

Teacher's college clinical or couneseling?

Teacher's college = clinical

I think they are already done sending out invites for Clinical Ph.D.

I called the department on Friday when I saw someone had received an invite. From what I understood, they had sent out all the invites on that day and they will post rejections in two weeks.

I am terribly sorry for this news.

Are you waiting for BU clinical or BU counseling?

I'm 99.999 percent sure BU clinical (rumored to have had ~700 apps) is done inviting at this point, and I'm pretty sure BU counseling doesn't interview. Acceptances will be mailed with an open house before 4/15 to help you feel them out.

Still waiting on Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Marywood University (both PsyD)

Anybody heard anything from USUHS? They're really the last ones from whom I've heard absolutely nothing.

That is interesting, because teacher's college is not listed on the master list.

Based on the Master List I am waiting on:

UVA arts and sciences
GWU (I guess they sent those out today... when is the interview?)
Teachers College
St. Johns.

Notice I said "near." 🙂 And invite season has to end sometime--or else I'll be updating this thread on the night of my (hopeful) dissertation defense!

It's always possible that no SDNers got invites this year--happened with Depaul clinical-community!

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, 500-600 is their average - and that's complete madness.

I've never been able to wrap by brain around why their app pool is always several standard deviations above even some other silly-competitive programs.

I've heard all the arguments, and have some friends there now, but it just doesn't really add up for me.

Anyway, good luck with your other apps.

I was waiting for someone to point that out. I am just becoming increasingly anxious over this whole process and looking forward to a happy resolution by April.
I had assumed I would have heard from my schools already....

PACE combined school/clinical psyd
YESHIVA combined school/clinical
CWPOST clinical psyd
RUTGERS school psyd
HOFSTRA school/community psyd

Has anyone heard from St. John's yet?? That is the last school I am waiting on!

nope..I posted as soon as i got invite..

I'm sure this kind of post gets annoying, but I'm shameless:

Does anyone have intel on when Duquesne's clinical program sends out their invites?

I just had to write this to give myself the illusion that I'm in control of the situation. 😉

Can the person(people) with UMASS-Amherst invites for school let me know if the email seemed to be mass or personalized? I applied to the Ed.S. program and am holding out hope that they are sending those interview invites separate.

I think these people rom LIU are having communication problems b/c I've already seen or spoken to ~3ppl who say they've been invited and when I call the office they also tell me that interviews have not been offered yet. I'm also waiting to hear from them. This is frustrating.

I have been in contact with the graduate admissions counselor at the Brooklyn campus because they lost my recommendations and resume. They were very accommodating and let me email everything to them but I asked if was even worth it because I had read that others had already received invitations. I was told that they are still reviewing applications and today I got an email from the admissions counselor himself verifying that he had received everything and that those selected for interviews will be notified in march. So I don't really know the situation with those who have gotten interviews but I think if they were done they would have told me flat out instead of working with me to get my materials together and then tell me about march.

I'm waiting for clinical invites from Saint Louis University and UIC (fingers crossed that the latter aren't all out!) and counseling invites from Teachers College and UMD College Park. No one has heard from UMD College Park counseling, right? I didn't see them on the master list, but I've overlooked schools before.

From the grad cafe, there was one person who got the invite for a phone interview this week from Counseling Psych at UMD-College Park on Feb.4 (which was my birthday--😉.This person received the invite via e-mail from POI. Not heard from Counseling-Teacher's College yet.

Hi,

Rejections/Interviews are supposedly two weeks past due. Anyone heard one way or another. Specifically for the SF campus.

At what point is it acceptable to email the Director of Admissions to inquire about interviews?

Do most of you call anonymously or do you state who you are?
I am curious about my status at some of these schools, but don't want to be a nuisance to them.

thoughts?

I just emailed one of my schools asking if they had emailed all those applicants receiving interviews and the response I got back was that I would find out my status April 15.....NOT what I asked! 😡....doesn't look good

Okay, at least that gives me some hope. Although now i'm wondering if they misplaced any of my materials too 😕

I just received a phone interview for University of Montana's clinical program! :soexcited:

Did anyone apply to U of M's social work and social science program? If so, has anyone heard anything one way or another?

I have seen a lot of people asking about emailing or calling programs... As someone who has been involved in the application process from the school side. I would advise you not to call. It reflects the inability to tolerate ambiguity and to be patient... If we are looking to narrow down applicants calling and nagging can seem "needy" programs don't want needy! They are doing the best they can. Just imagine if you were receiving 20-30 emails/phone calls a day about a tedious process. Just advice take it or leave it.

I am also waiting to hear from CW Post about Clinical Psych Psy.D. Has anyone heard from University of Denver or PGSP-Stanford (Clinical Psych Psy.D)???? 😱

I understand your position and agree on some parts, but at the same time, I also respectfully disagree. Turning down a student when he/she calls to find out the status of an application because they have different commitments (an offer/interviews/etc) does not seem to me a valid reason to reject someone. Sure, you might get inpatient students calling three times a week, but just one inquiry seems reasonable enough, especially if that student found out that the school sent invites or other decisions. They might not be "needy", they might be really interested in the school. Wouldn't a school like a student that is really into them? That's only my opinion though. 🙂

My thoughts exactly, especially after working in HR for a while.... So, I'm just going to sit here and check my email every five minutes instead. 🙄

If it makes you feel any better I'm also still waiting on Denver. I'm hoping they send out another round of interviews this week. I did email the admissions assistant last week to check and make sure my app was with the department (they had some computer glitch with my personal statement and I had to resend). She replied promptly, stating it was "to be processed by the department" so I assume by the start of next week we should have a verdict... Fingers crossed! Good luck to you!:xf:

As an aside, the programs could easily stop the calls entirely, if they made the process transparent. They don't, for their own reasons. They are, in fact, not doing the best they can. The best they could would be to do what UC Berkeley did this year - post a schedule, stick to it, email people with updates. The programs choose to make this process more painful than it has to be. This isn't the way it has to be.

I very much doubt that a call or email for an update will knock someone out of consideration.

+1!!

+1!! I mean we paid an application fee, didn't we?!?

I agree! The Univ of Hawaii was VERY nice about getting back to me with their selection process and my options (if i so choose) to seek out for the status of my app...I mean if you know when the interview date is, and you haven't heard ANYTHING form your school, I don't know about you, but I'd like to know either I'm in or not! It would be extremely naive of schools (ESPECIALLY given the economy) to think that applicants are only applying to one or two schools. Chances are, you want to know the status of where you stand so you decide on other school options.

Just my two cents though!

For those of you who interviewed at Vandy today...

I don't know if they told you this at your interview, but the clinical faculty decided who to admit this afternoon around 5pm.

Best of luck!

Wow. What a way to freak everybody out. Glad I didn't interview at Vandy today...

Does anyone who interviewed at Vandy today know anything about Elisabeth Dykns and whether or not she was taking a student...I'm hoping someone will ease my pain and tell me that she ended up not taking a student this year, especially since it looks like I might be applying again next year.

Thanks
