I was ranked by the Portland VA last year (they don't do interviews but have an open house). You may not hear from them until WELL after 12/15. I recall I got a letter from them only 10 days or so before ranking day....
I'm a little confused.. the open house is by invitation only (they invite only the finalists to open house). You heard you were a finalist in February last year? Wouldn't this totally preclude you from the option of attending the open house?

Received 2 no-go's today. Missouri Health Sciences Consortium and Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. Hopefully good news will follow. 🙂
There were about 7-8 of us, but it wasn't a group interview. The director spoke about the program for about an hour, and then we each had two 30-minute individual interviews with different faculty.

7 invites (University of Chicago, UCLA, UCSD, Charleston, WPIC, and the Minneapolis VA and Hennepin County Medical Center)
3 rejections (University of Illinois-Chicago, Boston Consortium, and Brown)
2 more to go (Palo Alto VA and Maryland Consortium)
All are adult tracks, mostly general but some neuropsych or severe mental illness (if they have it!)

Yep, I was at the airport going from one interview to another when a friend told me I had received a letter from the Portland VA. I told him to open it and it was a notice that I was going to be ranked. There was a notice of the open house on the letter but it was BEFORE the date on the top of the letter... I called and they said that they hadn't notified everybody in time and that not attending the open house wouldn't affect the ranking....
Another site, William S. Hall, sent me an e-mail saying I was invited to an interview. Then, they said there was no internship. Then, literally a 10 days before the ranking date, they said there was an internship and interviews were required. I called to schedule an interview date, and they told me the original invite was a rejection
Wow, WPIC and Univ of Chicago -- those are both very high powered sites!
Sure - I ranked the Specialty Mental Health first and then Neuropsychology second. I'm not actually sure if they said which one (or both) when I talked to them because they telephoned Friday afternoon and I totally wasn't expecting it - everyone else has been email!

So far 2 invites, 1 rejection, and 11 to go.
It all depends on fit. I was lucky that a number of the VA's offered opportunities in areas I was looking for, so I applied to more sites than I would have otherwise.
Congratulations! I assume that was an invitation? Do you mind me asking if you heard via phone or email? UNC was one of the two places I was still waiting to hear from...
Yup, it was an invitation. It was via e-mail, but it was an individualized e-mail (not one of the mass ones to all invited applicants), so it may take them a while to get to everyone. Do you mind if I ask where else you are waiting to hear from?
I applied to as many as I did because I'm limited geographically to a very competitive part of the country. If I could have spread out and considered relocation, I might have chosen to apply to fewer sites.

Hey there! I have a friend who reminds me all the time that, "you'll only match at one, anyway!"
How many interviews do you guys want to feel "safe"? Initially, I thought 6-7, but now, looking at my remaining options, I guess 5.
I believe the mean for people matching last year was 7. I want at least 10 since I don't want to be just average.....
I was thinking a similar thing (only applied to 12) but from what I've heard most people who match don't really match below their 5th or 6th choice anyhow. So given the fact that you already have 5 invites I would suspect you're in good shape!
I have a few friends that tell me the same thing. Plus there are people who have had tons of interviews and not matched. So I hope that these friends are right because the interviews are just not rolling in quickly for me!
I have 4 -- was hoping for 6-8 interviews. I still have 12 places to hear from, but I'm getting nervous. I wonder why it's taking so long? 😕
I have no idea but it is driving me absolutely mad! I am waiting on 7 and have been for quite some time!
Just got in invite from Devereux! Now 6 more to hear from!
