Did anyone interview in DECEMBER and hear back? I interviewed 12/2 and haven't heard anything. I'm hoping that its not a bad sign that I haven't heard anything, but that they havent gotten to our pile of interviews yet- hopefully

I interviewed 12/3 and i haven't heard back yet

Invite! Complete 10/09 or so. Available dates are through 01/29. If interviews only go through the end of January, as some people have said, it looks like I just barely made it.

congrats!!! are there many interview dates left between now and then or just one or two? i'm trying to get a feel for how many interview spots are left. i'm complete about 2 weeks after you and would hate to think they'll run out before they even glance at me (yeah yeah shouldn't have submitted so late, i know)

i submitted later than both of you. :smack:

still holding out hope though! :xf:

I interviewed in late November (11/20) and have already heard back. I dont think that they're doing it in COMPLETE chronologic order because people who interviewed before me have not heard back. Who really knows how this works??? 😕
Were you MD only?

I have not heard anything back from NYU yet...is it worth it to send an update letter that consists of 2 fall marks, 3 SUBMITTED abstracts (not accepted just yet - will have to wait till mid Feb).

I ask about the abstracts because I think it'll be too late to send any updates in mid Feb.

Anyone have an opinion?

I submitted the secondary in august, was marked complete 10/20, and haven't heard back yet...seems weird to me that you'd have to submit earlier than mid August to even have a chance.

honestly, i'm not sure - i received the email while i was at another interview, and it was too late to schedule by the time i actually opened and read the email. it says that available dates are during 01/19 - 01/29, and you have to call between certain hours to schedule, so it looks like i gotta call tomorrow to actually reserve my spot. if they say anything helpful on the phone, i'll post it here 🙂 it may be worth calling and inquiring about the feasibility of getting an interview with your completion date, though. And I hear you about the late submission lament, I turned all my secondaries in later than I wanted to due to my work schedule :-/

i really wish it was more well known that the 'deadlines' for secondaries are way later than when you should actually get things in. for most other things in life it isn't like that, and I have a bad habit of procrastinating.

Does that mean NO one who was complete after 10/1 has gotten an interview?

Does that mean NO one who was complete after 10/1 has gotten an interview?

I was complete on 10/9 and received one yesterday. Offered 1/19-1/29. I was able to get my first choice slot when I called this morning, so it looks like there are a good number of interviews still available for 1/19-1/29. That's pretty much all I know :-/ It seems pretty strange to have a secondary deadline of 12/15 and only interview through Jan (as their website says). It would make a lot more sense to have a deadline of 10/15, like Penn does, if you're going to stop interviewing so early.

Anyone who interviewed her receive an invitation to fill out a survey?

It asks for us to rate our interviewers, tour guides, and lunch presenters. it asks us to name our tour guides, and then rate them. I don't remember our tour guides' names...

Hey everyone
I'm a first year at NYU and just wanted to respond to a couple things you guys are talking about.
First, I'm almost positive we only interview until the end of January. Not trying to make anyone nervous, but if you were planning on calling/updating, it's a good thing to know.
Second, the whole bathroom situation. Shared bathrooms are obviously not ideal, but they're kept clean (much cleaner than we kept our bathroom in my college apartment). I thought the coed thing would be a big deal but I stopped noticing after about the 1st week. And there is a girls only floor, if that makes anyone more comfortable. There are definitely people who live outside of Rubin (the dorm) and they generally have no complaints about feeling out of the loop. Right across the street from the hospital are apartments that 2nd and 3rd years live in, so there are other options after first year.
Third, anatomy lab. Anyone who's seen our lab knows it's not the most high tech. But one wonderful aspect of our anatomy lab is the number of professors that are around to help. We have a couple computers you can use to look things up, but there's nothing better than have lots of professors in the room to answer your questions on the spot. The anatomy faculty is approachable, interesting, and extremely knowledgeable. This has made a huge positive impact on my anatomy experience.
Feel free to ask any other questions, I can try to answer them. Congrats to those of you who have been accepted and good luck to everyone waiting!

This doesn't seem fair...just because the admissions office took over two months to mark me complete, I don't get a chance to interview?

I sent an email update earlier this week and attached an unofficial copy of my most recent transcript (I work full time but take classes too and did very well so it is important to me that they consider these grades)...
Do you guys think it is a good idea to call and make sure this has been added to my file? Or should I just assume everything is fine?

Where do you guys direct your update letter (pre-interview invite). I just want to see if I have one last shot at this.

Thanks!

Has a facebook group been created for Class of 2014?

Is it worth it sending a recent unofficial transcript if it's 4 A's and one C? I've only grades to update about, no paper yet.

How would I go about it, just scan and send as an email attachment? Send to whom?

I'm post intvw btw, for MSTP (and I was complete after 10/1).

Thanks for this info! I heard they clean the bathrooms every day anyhow. For each floor there's two toilets and two showers right? Do you ever have to wait to take a shower?

I got an interview invite in mid-December and am scheduled to interview late January. Does NYU send out an informational packet/e-mail regarding the interview day? I don't even know which building or what time I'm suppose to show up at...

If anyone who already interviewed here could answer this for me, that'd be great. If not, I guess I'll have to call the admissions office. Thanks in advance!

The address should be in the original email invite. I was told the time when I called to schedule the interview.

:luck:

Hmm, I must've somehow missed that information when I read the e-mail the first time through. Thanks ishchayill !

Do the rest of us post-interview not yet accepted - really have to wait till March?? 😱 lol

in the context of the cycle, its really not that much longer-less than 7 weeks!

I started this process under the impression that 7 weeks was a long time, but I learned pretty quickly how insanely fast it goes

Hi everyone,

I am currently confused between two schools: University of Pittsburgh and NYU.

Is anyone else applying to both schools and not sure which one to pick over the other (they're not my only schools but I'm working on eliminating some of my choices to make it easier when it comes to a final decision)? If yes, can you tell me which one you'd pick and why?

As for the others, I would appreciate it if I could receive some opinions, even if you're not considering both.

Thank you all and good luck!

Yes I'd actually like to since I live really close.

sounds like a plus for NYU. any similar plusses for pitt?

as far as rust belt cities go, pittsburgh is pretty happening. but nothing like new york. i've heard nyu facilities are a little older.

do you have the MSAR?

Ahh very true. That makes me feel a little bit better. New goal: send update letter by the end of this week. 🙄

I loved pitt's very early clinical exposure (the first year student were getting ready to learning physical exams, which NYU doesn't teach till second year). And of course their WISER simulation center is unbeatable. Students seemed really happy. One additional good thing is that the ~600 students at Pitt "own" all of Pittsburgh's hospitals, since they're the only medical school in the area.

As for NYU, I love the city and Bellevue, and the name. I did not like the facilities (especially Rubin).

Thanks for the help 🙂

Is there any word on a second look? I don't feel like digging through the 700-plus posts to find the info. I know they did one last year.

Yep, 2 showers, 2 toilets, and a urinal. I've had to wait for a shower exactly twice since moving in during August, both times on a Saturday afternoon.

And I think we're planning on having a second look, but I haven't heard anything about a date being set. Whenever it is, if you're trying to decide, go. you get a lot of information, but almost just as importantly, you get a much better feel for the school as a whole and the people who may potentially be your classmates.

Does NYU send out rejections? Or is it silent rejection only?

anyone know where to send updates/in the area? the site gives these contacts:

Nancy B. Genieser, M.D., Associate Dean for Admissions & Financial Aid
[email protected]
Joanne McGrath, Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
[email protected]

is there a general or should i just email it to one of these two?

also, does anybody know if an in-the-area email for the end of jan would be ridiculous, given that they stop interviewing then and they're probably close to (if not already) out of invites? i have an interview in the area the week of jan 31st and one the week after, so while ideally the interview would be between those two, i would certainly bump up the travel date for nyu and spend the time in between exploring! 😳

I was told to just send emails to [email protected].

It certainly doesn't hurt to send an update/LOI, as long as it's well written.

What constitutes a well-written LOI? Is it enough to just update about grades? Could they be irritated/an update hurt your chances?

I wonder how many interview spots they still have to give out. I am still under review and it would be annoying if they didn't tell me I was rejected once they give out their last interview slot.

Same. Not much time left here... :xf:
