Hey guys I was deferred a month ago. Is that why i did not get the email for financial aide? If i get off the waitlist this May is it possible to still get scholarship money? Thanks kinda confused.... congrats to those who got accepted! 🙂

You should go ahead and submit the FAFSA before march 1st for all the schools that you are accepted/defered/waitlisted/still need to interview at. Though it's unlikely there will be anymore merit based aid lying around, you might still get need based aid if your situation warrants (although OSU doesn't give very much need based aid in general).

Anyone who gets in has the full cost of attendance in loan money approved (obviously you don't have to take it all out). It's a lot easier on the schools if you submit your fafsa on time.

did anyone who interviewed here on Feb. 15 hear back on their decision yet???

FYI the last interview day is March 20something - I'm interviewing on 3/15 and the admissions office told me my day was the second to last.

The last interview date I am aware of is March 31st...I believe for most of you this would be the end of our interview season...only exception being for special programs like the BS/MD program etc

did anyone receive the FAFSA email from OSU? They said that there are some schoalrships for medical students that require an application, but the deadline is MArch 1st (!!!). I was accepted way back when, and I just received this email last night. I tried logging in, but it wouldn't let me. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

As other posters have stated, you should fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible so that you are eligible for the best federal financial packages - that being said, as someone else mentioned, you are bound to get the cost of attendance in loan money even if you happen to apply later/get in to a school later

It states that the FAFSA is required for some medical student scholarships - this is specifically for the need-based scholarships. To be eligible for these, you must provide answers to the parent section in the FAFSA EVEN IF YOU ARE INDEPENDENT - so yes, even if you are 28 year old etc, if you want to be eligible for need-based scholarships from OSU, fill out the parent section on the FAFSA - otherwise, this section is not necessary and you will still receive an adequate loan package.

Incoming students can be given merit based scholarships etc, but there is nothing you need to do for these - the admissions office makes these decisions and contacts the students directly who receive them

If you do not receive a scholarship right away, do be aware the OSU really does a great job of assisting their returning students - in fact it is much easier to earn various scholarships once you are a student here (academic, leadership, professionalism etc). Congrats to all who are accepted!!

anyone who interviewed on 2/15 hear back yet, or get the phone call today from Dr. Capers?? I am dying to know what's going on...😕:xf:

I was grocery shopping!

Bender you should go to OSU
Dude, I'm really hoping for some financial consideration. I think it'd be the only way I could get my fiancée to follow me out. OSU impressed the hell out of me. They are definitely going to be Top 20 in the next 4 years.

Has anyone from February 15th heard anything about their decision yet? Phone call or status page update?? :/

I haven't heard, nor has a friend I interviewed with. Is it possible things got delayed a week due to the snow when we were interviewing?

I interviewed on the 22nd and my status just got changed to "deferred".

Is it just me or is everyone and their mom getting deferred lately?

Small sample size on here I guess, so it's not really telling. But just the vibe I've gotten over the past few weeks...

I think it's because it's later in the interview season. I think I may have to withdraw (regretfully!) with the way things are going so hopefully that'll go to someone on SDN.

Does anybody know how many, if any, people who were initially deferred post-interview have been accepted? If so did you write a LOI/update after your deferred status?

On a similar note... has anyone who has been deferred for a while been accepted? I know that last year, there were some acceptences in March off of the deferred list.

I hope the same could be true this year... I've been deferred since early December, and the waiting is torture.

Yeah I'm curious as well. It would be swell to get in off the deferred list, but it's probably a huge list by this point.🙁

To answer the past 3 posters: yes, that happened to me. I would absolutely recommend writing a LOI. 👍

Do you mind sharing when you were deferred/accepted? Thanks!

I was actually one of the "deferred for a long time" applicants. Interviewed all the way back in late October/early November, finally sent a LOI in early February, and then *WHAM*, got the call from Dean Capers a week later. Hope my anecdote gives you guys some inspiration.

Haha--sort of. Interviewed November, deferred Dec, LOI in Feb, no call. But, it is encouragement to keep the office updated!! And- CONGRATS by the way!!

I am also deferred. Interviewed 2/10. I called the office last week and they said there were about 200 people on the deferred list and they expect to have closer to 300 when this is all over. I also asked how many people they usually take off the list and she said that 5 years ago they took 50% of the list but last year took about 10-12%. So who knows at this point.

Do we know if they actually reject post-interview? or, is the list of 200-300 everyone who was not admitted?

Well at the interview they said that there were 3 possible outcomes to our interview (accepted, rejected, or deferred) so I assume yes and people aren't posting that information. I know I wouldn't.

Thanks-- Yeah, I had kind of assumed such. But, I guess after waiting for so long, I am starting to doubt my own standings! You guys are awesome, thanks for the quick replies!!

Did you send in your LOI through email or snail mail?

Thanks!

First one I've heard of too. The email response I got from the admissions office a few weeks ago said that the deferred list hadn't moved yet...

I'm worried it's huge too. I'm still hopeful, but with all the recent deferree's (and if only 10-12% of us are accepted) chances seem slim. But here's to hoping!!:xf:

Is 10 business days pretty standard, or has anyone ever been able to call and find out earlier than that? It's only been a little while for me, but I have a rather large (nonrefundable.. grr!) deposit due at another school very soon, before the 10 days are up. In the chance that I actually am accepted to OSU, I would not of course send it in.. but I don't want to harass the admissions office if there's no way they know already 🙂

I doubt you'd be able to find out early....10 days is one of the shortest turnaround times I've heard of for medical school admissions.

However, could you call the school where the deposit is due and ask for an extension? I feel like that would be easier to swing if the deposit deadline was based on when you were admitted (as opposed to everyone hands it in at the same time). Hopefully it won't hurt their feelings or anything 🙂

Withdrew from acceptance. Best of luck to you guys!

Good advice. Thank you very much! (I feel like I am flirting with these schools.)

I got deferred after six days.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I am waitlisted at three schools, no acceptances, and waiting to hear from Harvard. 🙁

withdrawing my acceptance here today. would have loved to go here but it all came down to money. good luck to all who are waiting!

My stats are 31 MCAT and 3.6 GPA. Sent secondary several months ago. Not heard anything after that. Today is Mar 5th. Not sure on what is going on. I am really worried.

I think they are done giving out interviews, unfortunately. They were booked perhaps even 1.5 to 2 months back and barring last minute cancellations not much will be happening.

Does anyone know how many spots they actually have left at this point? I also got deferred.

I've already sent multiple e-mails to Ms. Kenyon, but she's stopped replying so I think I may have overdone it and annoyed her. I tried e-mailing Dr. Capers, but he hasn't replied at all. 🙁

Hard to say. All schools over accept because not everyone is going to come. There's no way to know for sure how many spots will open up until after second look day and May 15th.

I just called to ask, and they couldn't really give me a straight answer. On the plus side, she said that there are only 3 weeks of interviews left, so that's not too many more people. She also said that final acceptances will go out the week of April 12th; if we don't get accepted then, we're waitlisted and probably no movement until May 15th.

Okay thanks. I guess that means we have to wait until May then.🙁
