Just got a small envelope in the mail. Post-interview 'Hold for Spring Consideration'.

Awesome.

God, does anyone ****ing want me?

:lame:

I will be happy if I were you, I mean it's not a rejection right? I think you with get an acceptance eventually if not right away, simply because your stats are great.

No, it's not a rejection. I should be grateful for that. I really just wanted some positive news before the holidays and also wanted to secure at least one acceptance so I could cancel a future interview. Plus this 'waitlist' thing seems to be forming into a trend for me and frankly, it's pissing me off.

Thanks FireitUp -- Been rooting for you for a while now - hope you hear some good news soon 👍

thanks, bud. just remember that it could be worse! i'm sure it will all work out.

i also got a post-interview "hold for spring consideration". not sure if its been explained previously in the thread, but i was wondering if this is the same as a waitlist. i guess the names are meaningless; either way, someone else has to say no for me to get in at this point.

vulcan? anyone? VULCAN?

interview invite dec 18, complete nov 10, for those that have interviewed anyone have any advice about the school?

Anyone has data on interviews vs acceptances ratio at Downstate? US News report does not seem to offer one.

Hold for spring as well...

"All I wanna say is that, they don't really care about us" 🙁

I interviewed nov.4 and i still havent heard. I am scared!!

Hold does not equal waitlist. As much as this sucks, what it means is that they will look at your file again in spring. So sort of how youve been waiting to hear from them this past month, youre back in that waiting state until april.

Once april rolls around, you can be accepted right off this hold or you can be waitlisted as well. I have no idea if Downstate does post-interview rejections.

Looks like a big round of holds this time 🙁

Best of luck guys!:luck:

finally got an acceptance letter today. just ecstatic! 😀 so dont lose hope, maybe good news is coming ur way too👍

So it seems that people who interviewed between November 2nd and the 5th are getting letters now, is that right?

Just checking because I haven't received anything yet and I interviewed during that week too.

🙂xf🙂

1. I hope you like tuna sandwiches.. b/c thats the only option unless you specify otherwise
2. Interview wise they ask the questions you would expect. My interview was pretty long (just over an hour). The interviewer was nice enough but was a toughy. This was my hardest interview thus far I think.. but just stay calm and you'll get through it.
3. Anatomy labs were just redone.. they look nice
4. Students seem normal, which is always a plus!
5. Area really isn't so bad- I heard it was in a dangerous area.. but I guess the person who told me wasn't from NY so wasn't used to the city in general

Overall good interview day.. had a bunch of downtime but they have comps you can check your email on. Good luck.

Hooray I seem normal! :ninja:

i would have liked to see more students when I was there, so I could get some perspectives. I agree with others that say it lacks a definitive presence since it is kind of in a hospital, but I like that you are in that hospital setting. Overall I liked it there, you won't get this kind of diversity and clinical experience elsewhere. Downstate is in the big leagues.

So during my interview last cycle, I rented a Lincoln which costs me $35 from Flushing. Since my interview is in the morning at 9 (need to be there 20 minutes earlier), I will just take subway all the way which is only $2.25. Does anyone think that would be a problem? I felt awkward wearing a suit and a tie in the subway.

Not at all. That's when all the business people travel for the morning rush. You'll be a wallflower.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you arrive early for the subway to make sure that you are on time. Brooklyn traffic in the morning can vary greatly depending on your route of travel. If you were taking the train in manhattan you would see tons more people taking the train in suits to wall street and 42nd st area (midtown) in the morning. Its not a problem. I have gotten on the bus and train for a couple of NY interviews this cycle.

i took the subway to the interview. actually the day before that, i took the local 7 and transfered to the 2 train which took me 1.5 hr in total. normally the express 7 runs in the morning, but i was expecting some unexpected **** to happen, so i got the the main st stop at 8:00 (had to get there by 9:40).
guess what, the express 7 didn't run that morning but i thought that if it took the local 1.5 hr to get there, i was still safe. the fuk.kkking train did not move for like 15 mins and then stop for 2 extra mins for each local stop it makes. i eventually got there at 10:10.

luckily my interviewer was sick that day. how fuk.ing convenient

So I was complete in early October, the only thing I've heard is that they want my grades for one of my grad programs (the other is at Downstate itself so they didn't request...). I sent a letter of interest with updates recently. Does anyone know how receptive they are to interest/update letters?

Thanks for your help!

Got an interview invitation last week for Jan 19. Any general advice/recommendations from past interviewees? Thanks!

yeah, check interview feedback prior to going on interviews.

So I interviewed on 10/7 and haven't heard anything still. I checked my status page and a new box appeared that had a red X next to it that said "Additional information received - verify AP credit" Does this mean anything? I'm gonna call them tomorrow because they never contacted me about it or anything and it just appeared. 😕

Still no invite.

Oy vey.

So they haven't yet started looking at the Hold people right?

Just got the acceptance letter today.

The letter mentions completing some health forms by July 1st. What forms are they/where can I find them?

Also, do most schools ask you to do the CPR course by August before your orientation date? I was under the impression that most schools have you do it during your first few weeks at school.

I was on hold for a specific reason: fall grades. Once I get those in, I'm in the running again.

Did they actually ask you to send them in that snail mail letter they sent? Mine didn't ask for the fall grades at all. Also, I am post-interview hold, are you post-interview hold as well?

What? Why would they ask specifically for these. I am also in school... I sent in my update but it was not asked for.

I was also on hold b/c they wanted more info on me. Almost immediately after updating them I was offered an interview invite.

I submitted my secondary late August. Mid-September I got a snail mail letter saying that they want my fall grades when available. So this is pre-interview. Also, when I called them about it they said that it doesn't impact my chances of getting in...

I think it might be because I took one last prereq (bio 2 lab) this fall. My numbers are pretty decent, so I'm not sure what they were concerned about. 😕

That is reassuring...

Call about the health forms, they may be mailed to you this month.

CPR is done separately and must be done over the summer. DS does NOT offer it during orientation...besides you guys will be too busy partying it up at damn near every bar in brooklyn (plus some other special trips 😉 ) to do your CPR training. Make sure to get it done before school starts.

T minus one month til Vulcan becomes a tour guide/shadow...excited to meet you guys!

"on hold for spring consideration"

is anyone else losing sleep over their med school future..this is brutal.

Right here. It's just pure torture. I really liked Downstate, it really does suck to be on hold.

ok, so today I got an email from Downstate that asked me to reconfirm my interest in their school. They specifically said if I wish to not attend and "This will release your place and benefit others who wish to attend". So of course, in a typical pre-med fashion I am overanalyzing and don't know what this means. I have not checked my mail in 3 days so I don't know if i have received anything or if something got lost in the mail, but does this mean I am in, or that they are simply going over my application? Has anyone else gotten this email?! HELPP! 😱

I received this email today also.

I received the same email today and I was already accepted. Maybe this means they still haven't received my $100 deposit??

Today I received an email request for my fall grades post-interview. Anyone had similar experiences?
