Congrats to the newest batch of acceptees! Remember, if you guys have any questions on anything i.e. student life, studying amounts, exams and lectures, extracurriculars, or anything really feel free to ask.

vulcan - how feasible is it to live in manhattan and commute to school on the train?? i heard of some students doing that when i was down there.

Hey everyone, I was hoping you guys would help me justify not applying to this school. 3.85 sgpa and 3.78 cgpa 26n mcat lost of ec's and research. I applied only to osteopathic school got and in but after looking at the cost I started wondering if I had a shot in hell had I applied to downstate. I am instate and it's so cheap, I wouldn't even have had to move. I know it's too late now but I just need someone to tell me what I want to hear(I wouldn't get in), yes I am crazy!

lol well.... if you don't apply, you definitely won't get in! sorry i couldn't say exactly what you wanted to hear (and congrats on your acceptance!)

Definitely feasible. I know a couple of people who do this, however they tend to not show up to lectures (esp those which start at 9AM) and listen to the podcasts instead.

Thanks for the response, I guess I could play the shoulda, coulda, woulda game all day.

Hey guys, a couple of quick questions:

How do they notify you of interview or rejection?

Has anyone else been complete since late August but not heard back?

Thanks for your help.

all by snailmail

Not sure if anyone else has posted a rejection yet, so I figured I would in case it helps anyone.

Interviewed Oct. 6. Got rejection letter via snail mail today.

OOS. 33R, 4.0 GPA from big TX public school.

I knew my interview here went horribly, since all the guy did was ask me about why I want to come to Downstate, where else did I apply, where had I interviewed, and why I would want to come there for the same $$$ as an OOS private school that would have more resources for the research opportunities I hope to pursue. Basically tried to talk me out of coming.

The tide really changed when he asked and I answered truthfully that I also applied to NYU, Sinai, Columbia and Cornell, so if this applies to you as well, maybe don't mention it!!

Since I had a bad experience, I can't say I'm disappointed to have been rejected, but it helps that I already have an acceptance at my 2nd or 3rd choice school to soften the blow. 🙂

Congrats to all who have been accepted and loved the school! 🙂

ACCEPTED!!!!! interview Oct 7th. MY first acceptance.. I am so excited!! The envelope was dated 11/12. So it took a day but I live in NY>>>> GOod luck to all you guys that are waiting. I know the feeling

interview tomorrow. So freaking nervous. I hope I get to sleep tonight!!!:xf:

OK so hopefully this doesn't sound completely stupid but having lived in Southern California most of my life I really don't know how to act around cold weather. Is it reasonable to assume Downstate will have somewhere for me to put my coat and umbrella if necessary or am I going to have to trudge around all day with an overcoat on my arm?

Best of luck!:luck:

Remember, ask if they will be taking you into the lab in the morning...we're taking out the brain tomorrow til noon!

Feel free to drop by table 16 to say hi! (I'll be in black scrubs, looking very tired)

They'll have somewhere for you to put your coat and stuff.

got mail in this morning! interviewed 10/14. Mom broke the news to me! first acceptance. too bad this is one of two schools in which I showed up late and completely missed orientation. Can anyone tell me what they thought about the school based upon the feedback from students and what they saw on the tour?

I'm going to be a doctor!

If you want to see more of the school, they do a shadowing students program for acceptees starting in january i think.👍

Has anyone that has been accepted already received anything in the mail besides the form to return, congrats letter and shadow program sheet?

Thanx, I appreciate it. I really liked Pitt in general but Downstate is close to home and has its own charm. I'm not sure which one I want to really go to yet. I guess it will depend on second looks and finances.

Does anyone know how long we have to wait for their decision after we have an interview. I wanna know nooowwww 🙂

Yeah I guess I will see you at the Downstate second look!!!

From looking at this year's and last year's thread it seems like 4-6 weeks is standard (though it could differ by a week or so).

The admissions told me 6 - 8 weeks, but people are saying as little as 4. I hope thats true for me...

Whoohoo! Just got an interview invite! It looks like I'm all set for next Tuesday! Super excited, it's my first one!

When were you complete please? And what days did you interview for, just wanted to see how far are they booked.

Hi everyone. I was complete 09/30 - no news for me. Should I call or its too early? 😕:scared:😕

for accepted students---what was in your big envelope packet? In the acceptance letter, it says it contains orientation info, but I only got an acceptance letter, a flyer for shadow-a-student, and the sheet to sign and mail back with a deposit. Am I missing something?

I was complete on 10/15. I emailed the admissions office a few weeks ago letting them know that I was going to be on the east coast during a specified time frame and they fit me in to those dates. I'm not sure how far along they are otherwise.

just got the rejection letter today! 🙂. pre interview

Yeah I got the same things too. They did however say that they would send us more info next year. Are you going to sign up for the shadow a student?

Just make sure y'all bring old clothes if its an anatomy day 😀

That smell doesn't like to come out

woohoo accepted! 🙂 very grateful, thank you Downstate! maybe i'll see some of u guys and gals at the second look/shadowing stuff in the spring!

congrats on getting in! 😀 for shadowing a student, you can coordinate and decide what day you want to come and what you want to see (gross labs, lectures, case based learning, etc).

So if you're worried about smelling like an anatomy lab, you don't have to worry unless you're planning to stay down there for a couple hours.

Wait if you are on hold post-interview, do they review your application again in late Spring? Is it possible for them to re-review again in early Spring, like February or something? Vulcan, do you know?

We should try to coordinate days to shadow on SDN so groups of us can go on the same day

yeah sounds good. I was thinking I would go the early part of next year. I wonder is there a limit on the number of students they allow to shadow on a given day

I'm not quite sure what the different times they re-review are, since i only know one person who was on hold and he ended up getting waitlisted in the summer and accepted 5 days before orientation...

Ok my little dumplings,

I spoke to Ms. Levine at admissions about the second look program and here's what I've gathered:

I will almost def be one of the people you can follow. This means (for all you yet to interview) that I will also be a tour guide. This whole thing starts second semester (Jan 4th) and goes til the end of the year (late May to early June).

You can choose your day, but they stick you with whoever is giving the program that day (whichever MS1). You will follow them on their day to whichever activities you like (usually lectures from 9-12, then a free lunch, then either CBL, problem sets, or anatomy in the afternoon). You can ask all the questions you like, and can see the dorms and student center and whatever else you want to see.

And now, for your analyzing pleasure, I will break down the remaining blocks into timeframe and approximate content, so as to help you decide when to come say hi:

1/4-1/14: Cardio block: NO ANATOMY-lectures in the morning and CBL/histo lab/how to do ECG or ECHO in the afternoon

1/15-1/28: Respiratory Block: ONLY 1 ANATOMY LAB-lectures in the morning and CBL/histo lab in the afternoon

2/2-3/16: Gastrointestinal Block-LOTS OF ANATOMY, but anatomy finishes on 3/1-Lectures in the morning, and anatomy/CBL/histo lab in the afternoon

3/19-4/27: Renal/Repro/Endocrine Block: NO ANATOMY-lectures in the morning and CBL/histo lab/group problem sets in the afternoon

5/3-4/9: Neuro Block: ONLY ANATOMY IS WET BRAIN DISSECTION from 5/3-5/17 on certain days-lecture in the morning and anatomy/CBL/histo lab/problem sets in the afternoon

REMEMBER!!! Thursday of each week is reserved for Essentials of Clinical Medicine...so if you want to see what a subject block feels like, do not come on thursday! (I don't know if they are restricting which days you can visit)

...that being said, if they allow thursdays and you want to see ECM lectures by all means come.

If you guys have any specific questions on the schedule of certain dates, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hope this helped 😀

pre-interview rejection via mail. i don't know when i was complete, but i submitted on sept 7.

I'll be there for the MD/PhD on the 7th of Jan.
Is there a type of rsch or special rsch facility Dwnste really likes to brag about that I could look up?
