So, has anyone heard anything lately? I interviewed 10/28...I know its only been a little more than a month but STILL... hate this waiting game!
Nope. Someone interviewed 10/21 and heard back last Tuesday, so probably this week or next.

How can you check your admissions status for Downstate?
I haven't heard from them yet (pre-interview)

Just got back from my 12/2 interview; flying in the night before and flying out right after the interview sucks. Otherwise, Downstate seemed like a really cool place.

Glad ya liked it reggie 😀

Does anyone know how long it takes to know of acceptance / rejection after the interview. They said 6-8 weeks. Has anyone heard of a decision in less than 6-8 weeks? Just curious...i can't stand the wait any longer! 😛

I interviewed on 10/28 and received a letter of acceptance from them three weeks later. They also told me that I would hear from them in about 8 weeks because they were backed up. I really like this school but there is a chance that I might not go here because my home state is now Texas (grew up in brooklyn though) and the tuition in Texas schools are about $11,000 a year for residents.

Has anyone been lucky enough to have TWO sets of interviews on the same day for downstate??? I am just apply MD

Have the accepted people received a "updated acceptance letter"?

what does teh yellow bar which says'MED' on the application status mean? This has been for like a month and I havent got even an interview invite ??🙁

I never got an email about a status page

i never got an email about a status page either. i never even got a complete e mail or anything. i had to call back in august to make sure i was complete. i still havent heard a peep from downstate at all... def getting nervous 🙁

Your AMCAS ID for both.

The status page isn't really useful however. If you have everything checked (meaning everything is in), everything else is mainly done via Email. After interviewing I have heard about new boxes being added if you were accepted but other than that, it's not really worth checking it everyday.

I interviewed at Downstate on November 2. My status page says the school needs my Fall semester grades. Does this mean they won't make a decision on my application until after my grades are received?

I am interviewing at downstate in a couple of weeks OOS and was wondering what is the best way from JFK and what hotel would you recommend

Hey there, Chemo,

Congrats on interviewing. Being in state, I stayed at home when I interviewed so I can't really help there, but if you tell me when you're interviewing, I may be able to give you the MS1 schedule for that day. Actually, if it's after january 4th, I might be your tour guide!

the status page doesnt tell you if youre accepted or not

Nah, there's no connection between the two.

i think the most convenient way to campus is to take the AirTrain at JFK. The AirTrain is kind of an intermediary transport that is a way to travel between different terminals, parking lots, or train stations. It's $5 one way. Take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station.

Jamaica is a "hub" where you can choose to either get on the subway system or take a surface train. The fastest route is to take the surface train, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). It's a $5.75 ticket during off-peak hours (weekends) http://www.mta.info/mta/airtrain.htm

Take the LIRR from Jamaica Station to Flatbush Avenue/Atlantic Terminal. This is another "hub" where you can switch to a subway train. Finally, from Atlantic, take the 2 subway line to "Winthrop St." That's $2.25 one way.

It sounds really complicated, but it's pretty easy to do. From door to door, it's about 1 hr and 20 minutes. I only briefly outlined it, if you want more detailed information, PM me.

And of course, you could always take a taxi but it'll probably be ~$40 versus ~$12. And a taxi will probably still take at about an hour.

Oh, and I'm not terribly familiar with the hotels in the area. But google returns a couple highly rated places so they're probably pretty good. I think a lot of people choose to room with a student. I know at the dorms there are students who volunteer to host prospies. You could also stay at my place if you like if it's not too weird for me to offer...🙂

Hey Vulcan, I will be interviewing on Jan 7

Not a bad day at all...here's the MS1 schedule:

Essentials of Clinical Medicine all morning...9-1030 is healthcare system I and 1030-12 is healthcare system II

That afternoon is devoted to imaging.

Half the class will be learning to give EKGs and the other half will be learning to give echocardiograms. Both will be starting at 1.

Best of luck!

Month and 2 days since I interviewed. Send me something soon please! [Preferably a large package :xf: ]

I was completed late September
I havent heard anything yet
Why

Interview Invite via Phone Call!!!! My Fifth one.

I was complete on July 26th, 2009.

interviewed 10/19. still waiting. it sounded like someone who got in heard after three weeks. does the time it takes for them to go back to you have anything to do with whether you are in or waitlisted or rejected?

I interviewed in late September and still have yet to hear back...it's been officially 11 weeks and still no word...:eyebrow:

Congrats! When is it?

Thanks.

Its next week, December 15th. That only gives me one week to prepare for it. Are you a medical student there?

I am indeed a proud Downstate MS1! Although right now it's more like a proud incredibly stressed beyond belief MS1 since the Blood/Lymphoid/Head/Neck finals are tomorrow and Thursday :scared:

As for your interview...you are a lucky one! Your day is during one of the rare anatomy days in the Cardio Block! From what I've seen, the premeds usually are shown the lab sometime between 1230 and 130. If you guys show up after 1, you will see my half of the class doing the lab called "Mediastinum, Superior Mediastinum, Heart in situ."

Feel free to come say hi. I'm the tall guy in the back right of the lab wearing black scrubs at table 16.🙂

If you have any questions about life as an MS1 please feel free to ask.

So, to those who have been accepted:

Do they put new boxes on your status page?

just seein if i have somethin to check for... 😉

Yes they do add a new check list to your status page. THe checklist will incllude things like deposit fee, health records etc.... Keep in mind though the timing of when these items are added to the check list has been variable. Some people report that they notice the change before getting the actually acceptance letter while others days after gettin the letter.

Tried calling?
I don't think there's a point in calling before 8 weeks have passed.

If I were you I'd call and ask.

I interviewed a week after you and still waiting. Does anyone know if Downstate sends post-interview decisions in batches?

How important is legacy at this school? (Ie a parent Alumni) Is it more or less important that state residency?

Thanks

Are we supposed to? I didn't receive anything.

I just received an update letter on the 7th just stating that orientation and registration materials will be forwarded in june and housing, financial aid and health requirements will be sent in january

To anyone waiting, I just got my acceptance package in the mail today. I interviewed Oct 22nd.

Interviewed Oct. 29th
Received acceptance letter Dec. 9th
Postmarked on Dec. 8th (I live in Brooklyn)

Can't really blame the delay on the mail, but on the process...
Thank goodness 4 this one--it was my top choice out of the in-state schools. 🙂

Congrats to the newest batch of acceptees!!!!

Come to second look! I will be someone to shadow! And for you interviewees I will also be giving tours starting in january!😀

Now I'm off to celebrate the end of head/neck!!!! WOOO!😀😀😀😀

Wanderer:

I actually did call a few weeks ago...here's what happened:

So apparently I'm the only one who hasn't heard anything post-interview back in late September!! Even if it's a rejection, I just want to know...:scared:

I called the admissions office on Friday and they were like,
admissions: "just be patient, it can take up to 8 weeks"
me: It's been 8 weeks.
admissions: "Oh". awkward silence. "Well just be patient, I'm sure we'll get back to you real soon".
me: "um...ok....Should I call back next week if I still don't hear anything?"
admissions" "Uh, no...just be patient, please."
me: WTF????? 😡

can anybody relate? 😕

But I did take your advice and called a few minutes ago...I got the same exact lady who answered me the first time and the conversation was essentially a repeat of my original post. :beat:

<sigh>. I just want to know something at this point, good or bad.

what are you complaining about? you have like 7 acceptances, and you're complaining?! there are plenty of people who have been waiting and don't have multiple acceptances. you and bannie22 should seek some sort of domestic partnership.

I don't know how important it is, but it probably couldn't hurt. Then again, I'm not a legacy student and neither am I in-state so don't feel like you're disadvantaged if you're not either of those things.

got the acceptance letter today!!! letter was dated 12/2. i guess it took awhile to get out west. interviewed 10/19. my first acceptance!!!

finally came in the mail after nearly 12 weeks! hooray. 😛

got a letter that said pre-interview hold until Fall 09 grades released....does that mean i'm pretty much cut, or at best might get a waitlist spot?

I don't think that this is a rejection or waitlist, they just need more info to make a decision. Did u get it in the mail or email? when were u complete?
