So when do dual degree people get notified of acceptance/rejection? Isn't it supposed to be on 10/15? Anyone else doing MDMBA, MDPHD, MDJD?

My boyfriend is in his first year at tx tech's MBA program, and trying to get in to the dual MD/MBA program... no interview yet...

How does applying for the dual program affect chances of getting in? And what about since he is already in his first year of MBA school? I don't know much about it since I am applying strictly to medical school.

Typically, MDMBA applicants have a separate round of interviews for the MD program and the MBA program. The MBA offer is made contingently upon your admission to the MD program. If, however, you're already in the MBA program, then you only have to apply MD; if you get in, the MDMBA offers can be made as early as October 15.

Just got invited for an interview on FRIDAY DEC 18 any one out there going on that same day?

I will be interviewing this Friday (Oct. 30th). Anyone else going on this date?

:luck: Good Luck!!

Most of us LOVE it here. I hope you will, also. I even like maggie....sort of. 😉

pssh, don't even try to pretend you don't love me... even if i'm boring and underwhelming for your social needs 😛

If you quote me one more time on here we might be dating. Back off. And good thing you weren't in class today or we really would be pushing the envelope on time spent together.

I will actually be there tomorrow too. See ya then.

Hope you guys are rocking your interviews right now. Lunch looked awesome, I wanted to blend in and steal some....unfortunately I wasn't in anything close to interview attire. 🙄

my interviews went awesome. i really like the school, the curriculum, the faculty and staff, the proximity to home ... just about everything. i hope i hear good new from Tech in the near future.

dude are you from odessa?

yeah i am. sorta. i'm originally from a small town west of Odessa but i just say Odessa b.c it's easier to explain.

badass. i am also from odessa. which "small town west of odessa" are you from? its also funny (to me) that you use odessa as an easier to explain option. any time i tell someone i am from odessa they dont know where it is, so i have to use midland lol

haha. i know what you mean. i've had to use Midland as well ... even Lubbock or Abilene sometimes! i'm from Kermit. i went to UTPB for undergrad.

cool. utpb is a good school. and getting better from what i hear. great premed program. good luck to you, heres hoping everyone from the odessa/midland/andrews/kermit area gets into med school

yeah, it's becoming a pretty good school! thanks, good luck to you too, it'd be nice for all us west Texan's to get in.

I interviewed yesterday as well....had a GREAT time! I loved the school, the students, and thought the two interviewers I had were really friendly. 🙂

nice! i didn't hear anything negative from anyone about their interviews ... then again, i havn't heard anything negative about the program, besides it "being in lubbock" which, in my opinion, is NOT bad.

That was one of my negatives about the program when I was ranking it in the match but, I actually LOVE it in Lubbock. It's really a great place, my husband and I both like it here a lot.

Yeah. I can understand why some people don't like Lubbock, but being from the area ... it's no big deal to me.

Can you guys share why you guys like Lubbock area? What are some attractions over there?

Well, first of all, the weather is great in Lubbock. Lubbock has definate seasons and is not humid like central and east Texas. The nights in Lubbock are beautiful. You are also close to the mountains and skiing in NM and CO. Living is also pretty cheap in Lubbock. There are also plenty of fun things to do in town...fun bars, live music, good restaurants, ect. These are just a few of the nice things about living here.

It's probably different if you're coming from Austin. I went from a Small Panhandle Town --> College Station --> Lubbock, so this is the biggest place I've lived.

Pros: No humidity. Friendly people. Cheap living. Tons of places to eat. Movie theaters (yes, where I am from we don't have those). Main Event. Venues with live music (albeit not Austin-caliber). Tons of parks. Growing fast. Parking right outside the school for ~$60/year. Twenty minutes or less anywhere you want to go. Lakes close. Mountains close. Airport with $120 flights to Dallas almost all the time.

Cons: The wind when it's acting up. Way too far from Dallas/Houston/Austin/The Coast. Umm....?? I am sure there are more, that's all that is popping into my head, though. Ah, yes. No HEB 👎.

Oh, no HEB...haha, what's there to replace it then? Fiesta? Wal-mart?

I loved Texas Tech.

I spent the rest of the weekend after my interview in Lubbock and I think it is such a nice town. I have always lived in suburban areas so it is kind of weird not being close to any big cities, but I think I would prefer that while I am in medical school- AND I grew up skiing so it will be nice to be close to NM and CO. Also went to the football game on Saturday and that was fun too.

Could anyone tell me when Tech usually gives pre-match offers to IS's? Do they give a lot on the 15th or kind of sporadically through Dec 31st, or give most acceptances on match day? I am hoping to hear good news... and waiting is difficult!

If I recall correctly last year they did a bigger round on the 14th (15th was a Saturday) and then a couple smaller pools before Dec. 31st. Tech definitely relies heavily on the Match.

O, I forgot to add - Jay Z is coming here this month. What else do you need in a town besides a med school and phased out rappers?? 😀

Great to know everyone so far have loved their experience at TECH. my interview is not till DEC 18th and i am doing all the push ups and sit ups to get prepared for it lol lol. I LOVE TEXAS TECH. i have lived in lubbock for 5years and i attended nursing school there at the health science center. This is my alma matter y'all. I will kill to get in here......i just love everything about tech and would not want to go anywhere else, i am married with a kid and we own a hse in lubbock so it will be perfect if i get accepted. thats my only interview invite so far and i hope to GOD almighty that i ace that interview. i think after my interview it might be too late for the rolling admission cycle so probably i will be looking forward to the match. JESUS i commit this in ure hands and please grant my desire to get into TECH. Here is to all those who are from WEST TEXAS.....👍 i am rooting for all of u guys. i can't wait to be officially class of 2014. God bless u all and keep praying.

Good luck mimi2kul, just relax and be yourself in the interviews. Out of all the schools I interviewed at (like there have been so many) Tech's were by far the most laid back and I feel the best environment for mutual exchange of info and learning. Tell them how bad you want to attend and express your passion, thats a good thing I think. (us non-trads have to stick together) 🙂

Again, good luck.

New to the thread - got an interview for Nov 13 or the 20. Trying to decide. Does Tech do early offers, and if so when? Could make the 13th, but the 2oth would be a LOT easier and less stressful. Opinions?

Thanks guys...i just called and switch my interview to Dec 4th. Anyone going there on that day? ...i will just be my self and let them know about my passion for TECH. PM me if anyone coming out of town needs help. i will be more than happy to help......

Tech does some pre-match offers, but tends to match a lot more than some Texas schools. I doubt the 13th would help much, if any, because most are betting that acceptances will go out that day. If they did them around 5, maybe you'd have a chance....but if they go out in the morning you won't even have interviewed.

... I really hope to hear something on the 13th or close to it... 😀

Looks like A&M is sending theirs Monday. I will guess that other schools will follow suit, so to correct our assumptions y'all should probably wait until Monday to get all worked up. 🙂

I'll swing by the admin office tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanks for the reply Aggie! By "tends to match more" do you mean that they wait until the Match in Feb to get their acceptances out? If thats the case, then no reason to get worked up at all I guess

They give out some pre-match offers, but I would say a majority of my class came from the match. Whether that was because others who had gotten pre-matches matched elsewhere or because they accepted a lot more through the match, who knows??

Interviewing after the pre-match date shouldn't hurt you. Especially if one of your options is 11/13 - that's way close to pre-match and they probably will have a lot of their pre-matches already chosen.

When I interviewed (in August) I believe Linda Prado said she'd be emailing prematch offers from home on Sunday.

Any talk about how big class of 2014 will be? And how many interviews they give out?

When I interviewed (in August) I believe Linda Prado said she'd be emailing prematch offers from home on Sunday.

I emailed Ms. Prado about when the acceptance emails were being sent out since Nov 15th is a Sunday. She said they have not decided on whether to send them out Friday, Nov 13th or Monday , Nov 16th. "You need to just check your emails."

I might be mistaken, but I thought I heard either Ms. Prado or Dr. Peck say that they were interviewing approximately 800 applicants for an approximate 150 student class. Again, all approximate ... and again, I could be wrong. Ok, so maybe my post doesn't help at all now that I re-read it. Oh well, I'll still submit. lol.

And remember that a lot more than 150 get accepted!! Many of those will have multiple acceptances and will choose against Tech for one reason or another.

Thanks for the info about what Linda Prado was saying at the interviews. 🙂

So if we are OOS and haven't heard anything yet, does that mean we're waitlisted? I interviewed on 10/2, and I saw that at least one other OOS-er from that day got an acceptance. I thought it went so well too, my interviewer told me he would definitely recommend me to the committee...

Like my interviewer told me when I interviewed "Wherever you interview it is a crapshoot whether or not you get accepted."

Hopefully others can answer better as to the timeline for OOS acceptances, as I applied instate - but don't give up yet!! It's definitely not over.

So how does the match work - can you get multiple acceptances? Do you rank the schools, and the one that accepts you highest on your ranking sends you the acceptance letter? I've also heard that the schools rank you compared to the other interviewees - and both rankings have to "match" up in some sort of algorithm. Its a little confusing to me, so if anyone could shed some light it would be much appreciated - the TMDSAS people were of no help here.

That's true! I forget that they overfill classes b.c of multiple acceptances etc. It gives us hopefulls an even better chance!

This.

Sort of - except they don't send a letter. You sit at midnight on January 31st pressing "REFRESH REFRESH" on the TMDSAS ranking page until your school or "YOU DID NOT MATCH" shows up on your screen.
