Anybody know if they are making another round of acceptance calls today?

I just called and spoke with a very laconic, unhelpful woman in the admissions office. She said, "All calls have gone out". Which means to me that the acceptance calls are done. She said I would hear by April 23rd at the latest.

Though, I guess that I already know now.

She was probably the same lady i talked to this morning

I told her that I understood from another student that we could be informed if we were to be receiving a call or an email/letter next week (as you mentioned), and that's when she made the comment about all calls having gone out already.

Ug, this is painful. I just wanted to know one way or another.

How likely is it that everyone who hasn't been called yet will be waitlisted?

I know Tufts usually has a lot of waitlist movement, but is there likely to be much more at this point? Is most of the movement after May 15 or before?

They supposedly reject post-interview, but everyone on here has been waitlisted if not accepted (including myself). I don't think any movement will happen before May 15.

How many of you have gotten the financial package and how many are still waiting?

You have to really piss someone off to get rejected. Out of the 15 or so kids I know who have interviewed there, none got a reject after interview, and all have only heard one incidence of someone getting rejected.

He asked his interviewer out for drinks... (she was a student).

Wow impressive on his part until the rejection I guess

Everyone should slow down here. He could have gotten rejected by his second interviewer. Still no confirmation that he had a solo happy hour.

Has anyone who interviewed in March besides those accepted gotten any news yet? I cannot understand what is so difficult about sending a waitlist email out.

Interviewed late March and am in the same waiting boat. Haven't heard a peep from admissions. This is simply tortuous.

I'm still waiting out here in CA

Me 2. At this point, I think all the scholarships have probably been handed out. So I will just receive all the loans stuff....🙁

eeeh I dunno - with my numbers if I don't get a scholarship I dont know who the hell would.

When are finaid packages coming??? :scared:

Am I the only antsy one here?

has anyone given the financial aid office a call lately?

Just did. They said they are prepping award letters now and won't sent them for a few weeks or so. They said they would put in my file a note to email my award to me as well as snail-mailing it.

O so they told u over the phone that you have received one of the scholarships?

EDIT: I just realized what you meant by award, sorry :-/

A couple of weeks? That doesn't leave much time before May 15th does it 😕

I guess schools think that loans with a 5% interest rate are an award. I think of it more as a punishment for choosing a career in medicine over investment banking.

anyone know if/where i can find the academic calendar for next year?

Scholarships = Price Discrimination

However...why in gods name would you go to Tufts if you had alternatives that were cheaper and similarly ranked...even after "bonus money" is considered. Is the extra 200k worth the cool simulation rooms?

Debate....begin!

Fully agree.

I just don't think that Tufts has the rep to back up the price tag. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt is no joke. No thanks, I'll take the state school...

Just withdrew acceptance, hope one of you gets it! Its really an amazing school in an amazing location.

Haha, I just got an email acknowledging my withdraw....from 4 months ago!

ditto... even though when i withdrew in january, i got a confirmation email. this one was identical to the first one except that it was signed by the dean. weird.

Not only do you need a car for years 3-4 but you also need one for preceptorships in year 2 and these can be pretty far away. Factor in another 20K/yr for that (over a school where cars are optional).

I saw one person mention it, did anyone applying/accepted/enrolled go through the Tufts MBS SMP program? I'm about to enroll and would appreciate any info, especially regarding applying to Tufts Med afterward.

You must have a very nice car.

I am in MBS. They only take a small number of students from the MBS program, roughly 1 out of every 10 so far IIRC.

I have never owned a car so I guess I have no real conception of the cost of owning and driving one. But I would have to buy a car if I go to Tufts which is expensive, plus insurance in the Boston area can be a lot, and gas to get to clinical sites that are 45min- 2 hrs away (e.g. the medical center on the Cape).

used 90's Subaru (cheap, reliable, all wheel drive) = $6000
insurance = $100 a month in the city
gas = market price 😛

Is this pretty much an unwritten requirement for Tufts to have a car? I was hoping to go without one for all 4 years....

If you really don't want a car here are your options.

1. CAP program preceptors during 2nd year are chosen based on lottery. You designate a geographic area you prefer and if your number is good you might get it. Often these sites are deep in the suburbs and not terribly close to the commuter rail. But this is only like 1x a week for a year. You can either try to get a site that is manageable by public transit or you can carpool or you can rent zipcars that 1 day/week.

2. Clinical sites during years 3-4 can be far. Look at the map they gave you during your interview. I think one or two of the sites that are VERY FAR from Boston have hospital-adjacent housing (and I hear the housing is free for one of these sites) so you won't really need a car while there. Also, some people try to do all their rotations at a certain site such as the Tufts New England Med Center hospital, but its probably difficult to get this plus you are limiting yourself and will lose out of a potentially great rotation at another site. Also, public transit does not run between 1am and 5am in Boston so unless you live RIGHT near the hospital you will need a car to get around if you are doing a night call or something like that. I guess you can manage by trying to live near your hospital and by bumming rides from your fellow classmates but I think it would be very difficult to do that ALL the time.

I did the Tufts MBS program. I was just accepted to Tufts MD Program.

If you have any questions about MBS or anything, feel free to ask.

just got my FA package by email -

has anyone gotten a Wolfson Medical Loan? comparing it with another FA letter I got some another school, it looks like it replaced Grad Plus loans, which can only be a good thing right?

I still haven't gotten mine??? I'll call them tomorrow to see what's up. Has anyone else gotten/not gotten theirs?

Got all loans. Withdrawing today. I would rather go to my state school that only costs 23K.

Hey oze, did u ask Tufts financial aid office to email you specifically about the award (like the other guy in the thread said earlier)?

yes sir. wait - you are a dude right?

FYI-financial aid packets were mailed today for those people completed by the deadline.

haha yes I'm a dude.

And they did get mailed today, so we should receive them shortly.

Good to hear. I need to know how much loans I'm going to get before I start panicking about the cost of living in Boston~!

Yea I got a Wolfson Loan...I'm not sure if they give that out to everybody?

EDIT: Nevermind, just found out it's 6.8% interest rate.
