im withdrawing from tufts. hope it opens up a spot for someone :luck:

So I think I'm 99% sure I'm going here, unless my waitlist status at my top choice changes, which I don't think is going to happen. Just wanted to ask if anyone has looked into housing yet and if you've found anything promising? When do most of ya'll plan to move to Boston?

And also - apart from a final transcript indicating completion of all courses, is there anything else we need to send to the school before matriculation?

The immunization stuff is due July 1st.... but aside from those two things, not sure.

I thought the immunization stuff was due June 1st?

ah nevermind, MD/MBA is 6/1, MD is 7/1

Does anyone happen to know approximately what proportion of waitlisted candidates at Tufts are ultimately accepted?

Hey all,

I just withdrew this morning. There's potentially a new spot open for waitlister's. Best of luck to all!

Did anyone who is waitlisted and turned in their financial aid forms on time receive their financial aid package yet? Or do they only send out the financial aid packages to admitted students?

I'm on the waitlist and didn't get anything.

My cursory understanding is that financial aid packages are only sent to admitted students. They request financial background information from waitlisted students such that upon their acceptance, they can get a package configured right away since everything is already on file. It's a painful exercise for a waitlister, since there is certainly no guarantee of acceptance, and yet you must part with all of your sensitive financial information nevertheless. Actually, what isn't painful about being on the waitlist?

Yeah that makes sense. Waitlist does suck though, but I guess it's better than being rejected.

All loans for fin aid 🙁 Then again; that's what I'm getting everywhere anyway so, oh well.

Withdrew from Tufts a couple of days ago - good luck to those on the WL!

Wow, that's a bunch of withdrawals... ...hope this translates to some significant waitlist movement!

I also withdrew a couple days ago, best of luck to everyone on the waitlist!

Anyone have an idea when the waitlist might start moving? I was looking at last year's thread and was guessing maybe next week.

Does anyone know what materials we have to buy before medical school (ie. stethoscope?) or if there is a list we get during the summer?

no, but I'm sure whatever we get will immediately be ridiculed by older students as useless

Haha how true.

When are they going to release the academic calendar? I also wonder how they are going to adjust first year for us since the class of 2013 was apparently overwhelmed by the new curriculum format.

Yo oze, we're in a similar situation waiting on cali schools. I wish you the best of luck:xf:.

Yea I've been waiting for this too, but I'm not sure if its going to be that different from 2013's calendar.

Haha yea. I don't want to buy anything more than I have to.

True, agreed. I guess I'm wondering more about the adjustments of the classes, but the schedule probably wont be much different just format of individual classes.

thanks, likewise! although, really, we could've done much worse than ending up at Tufts!

Hi all,

I havnt followed this thread for a while,so I have several questions, I appreciate any answers.I got waitlisted at tufts a while ago. In the waitlist letter, they mentioned that they are going to send a letter asking if you are interested in staying in waitlist sometime in spring, has anyone recieved that letter? also, has there been any waitlist movement?

I just received this letter this afternoon via email from Dr. Slavin. My impression is that this goes out to all wait listed candidates.

I don't remember ever getting a waitlist email. After completing my interview in December I received nothing by email, phone, or regular mail for the next 6 months. I emailed a few days before May 15 to see what was up and was told I was still under consideration for their MD/PhD.

On the 21st I received an email entitled 'Maine Track Wait List' (never applied to that Track) from Dr. Slavin saying I was still under consideration, but that email was immediately followed by another one saying to ignore the previous erroneous title.

I haven't gotten the email about staying on the waitlist that you all apparently got.

I'm pretty sure they were supposed to give me a decision by April 30/May 1. Really confused what they're trying to do here. Is anyone else in this position with Tufts? Is their MD/PhD program just disorganized or am I missing something?

withdrew today. Good luck to those on the waitlist. Tufts was very impressive. Anyone who gets in here should be very happy. The US News rankings don't do Tufts justice in my opinion.

They might be doing separate MD and MD/PhD waitlist, but if I were you, I'd call the admissions and email Dr. Slavin to show interest/see what is up...

Could someone who knows more about financial aid explain to me the details about the "Wolfson Loan". I know it is subsidized and has a longer grace period, so should I take this loan (at 7%) over the unsubsidized Stafford (6.8%)?

Tell us more details about the Wolfson loan. Does someone else pay the interest during medical school, like the subsidized stafford and perkins loans? I would assume so, or else what would be the point of getting the Wolfson loan. If the rates are 7% vs. 6.8%, the extra interest you will accumulate from the Wolfson's 0.2% higher rate during residency and beyond will probably be much less than the interest the unsubsidized stafford loan accumulates during medical school. Not adding interest during 4 yrs of medical school is huge. Go with the Wolfson if that's the case. Do the math though, seriously.

Edit: Oh yeah, you say it's subsidized. If you crunch the numbers, I'm sure you'll realize you save thousands with the Wolfson, depending on how large a loan it is.

Something else to consider is IBR eligibility. If you are planning on going into public health, it might be worth really considering. The federal loans are eligible and the institutional loans aren't.

I guess we can set up email accounts now? Go check it out in your secondary app page

Thank you for all your help. I called today and got everything worked out. Yes it is subsidized. On top of that, you can defer the payment for up to 60 months after the grace period. Additionally, the 7% written on our forms is only the maximum interest they can charge you. So it is pretty good.

And interest begins accruding during internship...
