Definitely don't leave that question blank or answer the way you proposed - you're just asking for an automatic rejection.

And your excuse for not wanting to answer it is crappy. If you've volunteered anywhere, certainly you've gotten some joy from helping other people, perhaps even gained insights into these peoples' lives... If you've had a meaningful volunteer experience, you should be able to easily answer this question.

how can you write 150 words about their school. they have the emptiest website. i don't even see a mission statement lol or a dean's message. the website has nothing about community service too

lol I was just thinking the same thing! I haven't received any secondaries yet (sent primaries late), but is that how we're supposed to answer all "why our school?" questions: just scavenge their website and generically say you agree with their values?

Oh and 150 words is the max, you can write less than the word limit. But I dunno if it looks good to use all the words here or not.

you're supposed to explain why you choose their school. at the same time you want to explain to them why they should choose you.

Submitted. So where's this status check thing people are talking about? Like do we just sign in at the same place? Or what? 😕
You'll get an email giving you the link soon after you submit.

Did anyone get their correction e-mail with updated information? Anyone notice any substantive changes that will affect an already submitted app?

Ok, how soon? I got an email but there's no link in it.

The changes are not that big. Only notable thing was stuff about how they are using AMCAS letters this year.

I got it probably no more than an hour after submission. If you don't have a link, it probably doesn't matter. After all, it doesn't work. I've e-mailed the site admins to ask how to access the page. Here's the content:

Hello,

The online form that you just completed has been successfully submitted and time-stamped. To verify when it has been picked up (usually 1-3 days later), please check your personal activity page at http://www.applyweb.com/cgi-bin/ustat

If you have any questions, direct them to [email protected] and please include your order-id:

Guess they realized that it doesn't work.

When I click on the link for the status page a box comes up with username and password. When I enter in my username and password and click OK it doesn't go anywhere. We are supposed to be using the same username and password that we used for the secondary right (email/amcas ID #)? Is this what you guys meant by the site not working?

Yes. I e-mailed the admins and the status page isn't for Tulane and they said there's no way to check our status online after submission.

Has anyone gotten a you're complete email yet from Tulane?

i got an email about changes on the instruction, i still haven't finished this one but if you guys are submitting make sure to check out the "important" changes on there 😉

when it says list your leadership positions,

i could do that in like 10 words.

do they want you to describe the responsibilities i had as well?

my three most important ec's are volunteering, research, big bros big sis

I don't have a single leadership experience. At the nursing home I'm the ONLY volunteer, for my reserach project I'm the only one working on it, and big bros big sister's i just spend time with my little brother every week. I have absolutely nothing to write down for the leadership essay....should i just leave this secondary alone and say bye bye tulane?

btw im part of AED pre health society but I hold no position...just a member..

I was wondering the same thing.

if you lead anyone like a tutor position...it's still considered a leadership position.

so writing about how I've helped my little brother from big bro's big sister's read and learn multiplication sort of thing? Thanks for the help, I almost let this secondary go

My feeling is that if it says "list" then you can just write out your leadership positions separated by commas. If they want to know more, they can always look at your AMCAS neway.

Just submitted this sucker on Saturday. Cost me $50 with a fee waiver. 🙁

Just submitted! Last year Tulane never got my LORs (found out less than a week after the LOR deadline), so I hope it goes better this round since AMCAS alraedy has all of them!

How did you find out? Do they normally notify you when they have everything from AMCAS?

For the meaningful volunteer experience, do you guys think shadowing would be an appropriate experience to talk about? My volunteering experiences at hospitals wern't very "meaningful", I basically just helped the nurses make beds and wheel chair people around. And my other volunteering experiences wern't all that great either. Shadowing isn't exactly any sort of volunteer work, but I don't really have anything else to say for this question. Just wondering if anyone else wrote about a shadowing experience for this question so I wouldn't feel quite so weird writing about mine for this question...

I would discourage writing about shadowing since you really aren't volunteering like you said. I think even LizzyM has posted that shadowing really does not equal volunteering when categorizing AMCAS work/activities so it shouldn't count as volunteering in this sense either

Yeah, I'll try to make my hospital volunteer work sound somewhat meaningful then. I'm sure it'll sound totally generic though.... oh, well.

If you don't know why you want to go here then I might suggest BSing?

I just state some stuff I believe is important. Hopefully they will give this next door neighbor some love. 😀

called tulane today, they gave me a status check by phone, said we'd know if we were interviewed for interviews in the next week or so 😕

Haha, well maybe if you weren't applying to every private med school in the country, you wouldn't run into Ksmi on so many of the application trails.

Good luck everyone!

You know... I seem to keep running into ksmi everywhere too! Ah well, I guess she'll make a good doctor so I'll begrudgingly let her poach some (JUST SOME KSMI!) spots away from me 😛

<btw - not applying to Tulane. Just poking my head in here because a an old-good friend of mine goes to tulane>

Ya know, in the end, I'll only have 1... well, hopefully.

wait, so if we call, they tell us our status? Where's the status page?

So I called and they told me that they were working on a program so that we could check our status. Yeah, she didn't seem very happy so I didn't question her any further.
