Yea I've heard the same. I think I WILL take it as gospel if nobody admits to being offered an interview with a <30 MCAT though!

Also, I saw some posts earlier in the thread about scholarship awards -- some people are offered merit scholarships with their acceptances, and some people are offered them later. I do not understand how this process works; maybe the people they really REALLY want get scholarships right away and the people they only really want get them later. But if you haven't been offered merit aid yet, don't lose hope! I didn't receive my scholarship until 4 months after my acceptance, and this happened to a number of my friends as well. Most of the merit awards are $10,000/year, and can be awarded at any time.

For those of you who have been accepted, congratulations! If anyone has anyone questions about the school or New Orleans, feel free to PM me, I'd be happy to give you my take on life down in the Big Easy 🙂

I wouldn't fret everyone, I got an interview with a 29. Just keep the positive vibes going!
 
If it's been three weeks since my interview and I haven't heard anything, but others from my day have, should I bother calling Ms. Vargas to ask for details or should I just assume that I'm in the "acceptable range" and that I'll get news when there is news to give?
 
This MCAT cutoff news is depressing. Has anyone applied to the rural medicine program?

I interviewed 9/18... I did not hear anything and called. I am on the acceptable range. They indicated I should have received an e-mail and I did not... You may wish to call.
 
Hallelujah Jesus! I am finally marked complete!!! This school is THE slowest out of all the ones I applied to..... and I applied to quite a lot. 😛
 
How good is Tulane with financial aid?

I know I could probably search to find this answer, but I'm lazy 🙂.

I haven't actually read much of this yet. the thought of borrowing $ (not to mention the thought of filling out heaps of paperwork) makes me feel slightly ill...but it'll all be worth it in the long run, I am certain

I did -- and she responded the same day. On a Sunday. And got accepted 4 days later. It may not have worked for some people, but I know it worked for me. She was really enthusiastic in her response back.

I think this whole "Letter of Interest/Letter of Intent" is more or less SDN mythology. Some schools really value that you want to go there, and some probably assume that everybody wants to go there so they don't really care.

I sent Dr. Beckman an e-mail on Saturday (and she responded that day) just telling her how much I thought I fit in at Tulane and what I liked about it, as she requested that we do.
 
I interviewed there too. And am waiting, thinking now either waitlist or rejection. I sent an email to one of my interviewers that I really connected with.

Here's what I think about it. If your riding out a waitlist into the spring then sure letting them know in polite little ways that you really want to go there seems like it would be helpful. But I wouldn't worry about it too much beyond a thank you to your interviewers while waiting for their initial decision.

They likely have their impression of you. And are discussing your application on that and your primary assets. Nothing too much we can do to influence the process at this point.
 
I havent even heard whether my app is complete or not, i submitted in mid sept ... thinking of calling em, ...

I wouldn't bother. This school is just extremely slow. Calls go to voicemail & they don't reply to emails. Takes 2 months from time of submission to be marked complete. I'd give it another couple of weeks.

Same here. I tried calling today, but it went to a recording that said status checks were not currently available.
 
Not sure when I was complete but Interviewed last Monday, 10/26
 
Interviewed 10/19, accepted 2 weeks later. I emailed Dr. Beckman and both my interviewers expressing interest in Tulane and New Orleans
 
Just got the call this morning! I was so bummed thinking I had to wait another week or two since calls went out yesterday and my phone got no love. Half-tuition scholarship!:banana: So excited about Tulane!!

(Sent thank you/intent emails to my interviewers and Dr. Beckman)

Just did the same thing and I also hope to indirectly make someone's day. 🙂
 
since the applicant pool is so large (10K)
and the interview pool so small (500)

we're gonna need a lot more withdrawals!
 
Got an email today with a status update saying I'm in the "acceptable range" and I could be accepted at any time, but most likely, I won't hear anything until March.

Keep up the hope! My roommate (MCAT 28) and I (MCAT 29) were both accepted!

For everyone who's been accepted -- after we email them to say we accept their offer.. what's next? Are there more forms to fill out? When do we get our email account, etc?

You'll get a response email confirming your intent to attend Tulane. They just said they'll start sending us more stuff over the course of the application cycle...no specifics mentioned.
 
i wonder if the fact that they're accepting anyone who sends a letter of intent will come around and bite them in the back and make them see a whole string of withdrawals come acceptances from other schools.

I don't think it's safe to assume this just because a few people on SDN sent one and got accepted - it could have been coincidence. Also, there could be many others who sent a letter of intent and no further action has yet to be taken...they are just either 1) not on SDN or 2) too embarrassed to post that. Who knows?

Also, I heard a while ago that Tulane really tries to fill their class early. This might factor into perception that interest/intent letter = automatic acceptance. At least last year, Jan/Feb interviews were mostly just for the WL spots. Trust, Tulane knows what it's doing.

well also on that note -- on many earlier posts, you can see that there have been a handful of people saying they sent letter of intents and haven't heard anything yet post-interview. either way, a LOI can't hurt you, and they make it very clear that they want a class of students that really want to be there. Emailing Dr. Beckman just that is prob just a good move on any applicants part that really wants to attend.

and I'm thinking SNDers only make up a half, or even less than that of applicants.. but who really knows anyways. The LOI helped me, but I'm sure it differs from candidate to candidate.

I just the call from Fr./Dr. Don Owens (one of my interviewers) informing me that IM ACCEPTED with a scholarship!!!!

For those interested,
I'm OOS, interviewed 9/14, stats are GPA: 3.48, MCAT: 36P

I'm so excited, I LOVE this school!
 
i know that they have a computer that automatically rejects people who have a <3.5 or <30 pre-interview
but if theres something in the file that is special
ie) masters student, teach-for-america, connections
then they don't reject you automatically
wondering what else the people here had that was special if they intw'ed below this criteria
let me know!

I have below a 3.5 and was not rejected, hell, I was accepted

Where did you get these numbers from? According to my U.S. News guide, these are the numbers:

Total Applied: 6582
Total Interviewed: 695
Total Accepted: 335

Of course they have a higher in-state interview and acceptance rate though.

The numbers they gave us at the interview were 7000 applicants, 500 interviews. I don't remember what, if anything, they said about acceptances.

oh i was going off of what dr. beckman had said last year
i remember thinking ''damn, one in 20 chances to interview!''
