yea, you're the person i need to talk to!

what was there in your file that was special?

Not that I can think of, I graduated from UCLA in 2009 and took a year off to work full time, anything specific you're looking for?

yea.
dr. beckman had said they like people who have worked a real full-time job.
so that might have done it!
made you stand out enough for your file to be read i mean.

I know this info can be helpful to all...complete 8/15; 3.75gpa, 31R mcat (10,10,11)--rejected today 🙁

yikes.
did you not express interest in the school in your secondary?

no, i did, guess it's just not the school for me; it's ok, still waiting to hear from other places

On the letter that we got at the Tulane Interview, it said the average stats for the class of 2013 was 3.45 and a 30.4

That would mean more than 50% of the class attending the school has below a 3.5, so I doubt they reject you automatically based on a strict GPA/MCAT criteria.

That actually can't be it. I graduated June 2009 and had turned in my Primary at that point, so I didn't know I'd have the job I started in August. I don't even know if it came up during the interview...

I know the day I interviewed all but one kid there had already graduated from undergrad and was either currently working FT or pursuing another degree. I'm sure this isn't a strict requirement, but I think it's a nice bonus. (that and significant community service experience)

its something they're starting this year
keep in mind thats for the applicant who has no other bonus

bonus being:
teach for america
masters/acp at tulane
among others

From my couple of conversations with Dr. Beckman, it appears that meaningful community service experiences and not being directly out of undergrad really helps you stand out from the crowd. If you can then articulate those experiences in your secondary and then your interview, those elements can almost speak louder than numbers.

I completed my secondary on 9/2 and received the complete email yesterday on 11/5. Is this a bad sign that they are taking forever with my file or is this normal? Stats are 3.7 and 33.

It's normal. If you read through this thread, you'll see that many have been frustrated by the school's slowness.

no activity here for a couple of days.

any new intw invites?

I submitted my secondary only a couple weeks after you and still haven't received a "complete" status.

For Tulane, does "complete" mean that your application is actually being reviewed? I know for some schools, "complete" means they have all necessary items for your application but doesn't mean anything about whether or not your application is being reviewed.

yea its completely normal.
unless you have some kind of super connections
you'll take about this much time to be complete at this time of year.
i'm still waiting!
ss 9/21... maybe 2-3 more weeks....

this makes me a little less sad lol...thanks for sharing that with us and congrats on all of your interviews...i'm jealous!

you should probably continue to be a little sad 🙁
cuz unless u chk marked anything special on your application
the computer is going to reject you.

the person who just claimed to get accepted with a sub-30 was a teach-for-america applicant.

Don't believe the rumors. I was accepted with a 29 MCAT and a 3.4 GPA. There is no automatic rejections. Keep believing!

and I'm not TFA or anything special...well, I think I'm special...

Hey everyone, I'm interviewing later this month and I know that Tulane really cares about your answer to 'why Tulane?'. I have general reasons why but I was trying to look through their website to find any differentiating factors of Tulane that I could highlight and couldn't really find any. Can anybody help out with this? Are there any specific programs worth mentioning in this answer?

Honestly, I would just talk about what you wrote on your secondary for "why tulane". I mean it got you the interview....

You don't need to tell them what's unique about them, they know. Just talk about their emphasis, what programs you would take advantage off, a dual degree program (if you are interested), talk about location (if that matters), talk from the heart and just genuinely say why u will go there. It's much better that way. Don't just give them the answer they want, give them YOUR answer. From your reasons, they will be able to tell if you are a "good fit".

Other than Koko, has anyone heard of post interview updates that weren't acceptances?

whoever canceled their interview on monday.....THANK YOU!
Roadtripping up to NOLA for the interview!!!

I interviewed 3 weeks ago and haven't heard a word, but I called yesterday and got some good news. They said my app will be looked at in the meeting this week and that the people who heard very quickly after their interviews just happened to have interviewers who submitted their review quicker. So if you haven't heard anything, no worries at this point

It's fine. Didn't really wanna go to the south (besides maybe Miami) and would have attended if it was my only option.

Thanks for the sympathy though 😛

You will probably get accepted to a school at the end.

Good luck!

I submitted 8/18 and was marked complete 9/3. interview invite 11/12. so it's been a WHILE

no actually, it was a quite a surprise to hear from them. i guess sometimes it really just does take time.

Oh wow, I'm getting anxious. Has anyone heard back post-interview in November? It sure has been quiet...

Has anyone been waiting 5 weeks + post interview, like me?

I don't know what to make of it.

Did you consider calling? Someone in this thread who interviewed and didn't hear back for several weeks --he called them and learned that he was in the "acceptance range."

Has anyone been waiting 5 weeks + post interview, like me?

I don't know what to make of it.

I too have been waiting the same time. I called the admissions office and inquired about the hold up. They said they were behind schedule because they missed two admission committee meetings and said they would review my app either today or next tuesday.

I guess they ended up reviewing my application today. I was put in the "acceptable range" list. Interviewed 10/9 if that helps.

Has anyone heard back from the 11/2 interview group?

I got the "acceptable range" letter today. =\ Interviewed 10/19

I really how many people are rejected post-interview. The letter says the "great majority" of interviewed candidates are put in the acceptable range, which makes me less hopeful for an actual acceptance.
