I interviewed in early November and was accepted the day before Thanksgiving 11/25/09! I have had other interviews but I am almost certain that WSU is where I'll be. I wish the best of luck to everyone and look forward to getting to know the new class! Hopefully there will be a facebook group started soon!

Just an FYI for anyone that has struggled to get in or is a non-traditional student, persistence pays off! I have 2 bachelors degrees, a master's in neuro and am currently working on a biomed masters. I have a ton of clinical work experience, ECs and volunteer work too. I applied last year and was waitlisted, and without retaking the MCAT (my score was a 28) I was accepted! If anyone has any questions please let me know 🙂

wow, you must be realllly old

so did anyone call to see if the admissions committee met today??

I called on the 4th, the ADCOM met at noon. The lady I spoke with said that just because they met does not necessarily mean that they sent out interview invites. I would imagine that if invites were sent out on Monday, we would have heard about it from some SDNers, assuming that there are a few students near the Detroit area being invited this round.

The lady did say that "they may not send out invites again until mid-late January." I hope they haven't sent them out this round CUZ IM SICK OF GETTING PASSED ON!!!

Well they did send out interview invites.
When I called the lady she said they did. And that my application was reviewed but an interview was not sent. But that I could receive one in the future.

If that was the case we should be hearing about invites... right aboutt.... now... i can't imagine it taking much longer for an in-stater to receive one

If you call the admissions office they'll tell you what your status is. They just said they still haven't selected me for an interview and they interview until April.

Well we are getting to the point where there are going to be fewer and fewer people on SDN getting an interview from specific schools...especially a school like Wayne State where most of the invites will probably be going to MI residents which would severely cut down on SDNers as a group receiving invites. Also, some people just don't post that information on here in an attempt to remain completely anonymous.

I don't get it... Nothing has changed in the application process. From my understanding, Wayne has 7 different rounds of invites. And they specifically state they take about an equal amount form each round. So the same amount of people are getting invited this round as of last. I don't know this as a fact, but I don't think the IS/OSS ratio changes much from round to round as far as interview invites go. So we are left with exactly the same situation as before... the same amount of invites to roughly the same demographic. Instaters should have gotten invites by now if in fact they sent them out on Monday. Maybe they decided who to invite on Monday, and didn't send them out until like yesterday or today. and you said "Well we are getting to the point where there are going to be fewer and fewer people on SDN getting an interview from specific schools".. so what you are saying is that schools are tapering down their invites. This may be true for the University of Texas schools, and some of the top-tier programs, but not for wayne.

No, no. I was only talking about those who post on SDN, not the general applicant pool. I am saying that you can't assume that just because no one posted their invite on here, doesn't mean they didn't go out. MSU has been sending invites, yet very few people have posted about it in that thread. So it is entirely possible the same is true for Wayne State. I too would like to think that maybe they didn't get the paperwork out till yesterday or so as I'm also waiting, but we shall see.

Hey guys, don't stress too much b/c Wayne takes a while to mail those invites out. If you read a little while ago on this thread we discovered that whether IS or OOS some people receive their letter late. For example I received my invite I think 12/14 and it was dated 12/4 or something like that. So it seems like it takes a little bit for them to mail it out.

Hang in there!!!!

For those of you that have received interview invites, is there a good amount of time between when you receive the invitation and when the interview is scheduled? I go to school out of state and I've been home for break. I'm not sure if I've gotten an invite, but there have been a few rounds of invitations sent out according to SDN. I just want to make sure I'm not going to arrive back at school later today and find out that I have an interview on Monday or something.

Generally I have found that schools usually give you 3+ weeks. I haven't heard of anyone getting an invite <1 week of receiving their invite.

Thanks...that's good to know. I'm getting back today. Hopefully an invite will be waiting!

hey guys,

What is the phone number you call to check your status?

Thanks!

I'm in Detroit from CA and I'm loving the city!! I won some money at the casino! Anyways I'm loving Detroit and really looking forwards to interviewing tomorrow.

How are you liking our "warm" weather? Being in the 30s today felt like I could go without a jacket 🙂 Good luck today with your interview!

It was 40 when I arrived and CA right now is 50 up north so it wasn't too bad 🙂 I'm really loving this city!

I was put on the Alternate list during the Oct. decision date. Is there an Alternate list and a waitlist? I know there used to be and the Waitlist was above the Alternate list, but it seems like people are being accepted off the alternate list as well? Any one know how the waitlist/alternate list works?
Thanks

As I understand it, there is only one list. It is a ranked list that has a "rating" for each person on it. I believe a rating of 3.0 is the highest and obviously those with that rating would be at the top of the list.

Okay. So loved the city. Loved the school. Loved the students. The interviewer however was an ahole. Cut my time short and gave me 30 min. Kind of rude. Kept tellng me I won't get in cuz my stats are too low and suggested I apply do and even told me to apply carribbean. Didn't seem to one my app. Instead of getting to know mms basically asked me to list my volunteering experiences w/o noting any detail. So overall t was horrible. Oh and told me that the ther school I interviewed at was ****ty. As if Wayne is one of the top tens.

Overall I have found that it doesn't matter how you prepare only what interviewer you get.

This was my top choice but after this experence I don't think I want to go here at all.

I had a pretty awful interview at Wayne State as well, it was bad in a very different way than yours but it also took Wayne from my top spot. very annoying

That's a shame. My interviewer was one of the nicest I've had and many on the interview feedback thread had a good interviewing experience.

It totally sucks. I hate how inconsistent interviews can be. Have heard regarding a decision?

Ya i was expecting someone really nice too and a low stress interview but alas I think it was the most stressful interview ever. The guy didn't read my application at all. Thanks Wayne for making me spend $500 and then crushing my dreams.

i know a few people that had similar interviews last year. yet, they still got in. if you really feel that badly about it, call the school, and let them know. some schools will give you another interview if you feel yours was biased.

Ya it's one of these situations where I'm like should I bother to go again? It was expensive and time consuming to say the least.

Did the people you know get accepted off the wait list or right away? Thanks for letting me know and I'm debating this right now. I just don't know if I want to dig a deeper hole for myself you know?

I really liked Wayne and it was actually one of my top choices. Do you know how the selection process works? They told me that they meet up on Mondays to present their interviewees to the admission's committee? Does the ad com also read our applications? If they do then I'll feel a lot better, if they don't then I'll fee kind of screwed.

Sigh, who knows, maybe I'll ride it out and see. I definitely didn't feel like I got to sell my self to the school in any way, nor did I feel like they were trying to sell them to me.

I am sorry that some of you got a bad deal. My interview with Wayne was one of the best I have had so far.
I feel for you though, because I had the same experience at some other school. There the interviewer really gave me a hard time & I was defered.
It is a shame that so much depends on an interviewer! And at the end of the day, you have to write a nice thank you letter to them too!

Anyway -- good luck to all. If you get my Wayne State interviewer, you'll have the best interview of your life.

Well I know apparently Dr. N is super nice and cool! I really wish I got him 🙁

The only preparation needed is to know your own application and why you want to go into medicine. I'm surprised you had this experience as Wayne is always a relaxed interview. It's too bad someone would say these things to you.

Read the most bizarre interview thread to see the kind of crap he said to me..it's almost unbelievable...

I'm really thinking about filling an appeal.

it was about 50/50, a couple of them got in and a couple got waitlisted (who still ended up getting in). im guessing u had this really old guy who didnt seem receptive to anything you had to say?

i dont know much about the application process except that the interviewer will present u to the adcom, and they will make their decision based on that (the adcom will still have your entire file though)

but if you're going to appeal, id do it right away

No it's okay, I'm not going to appeal. I'm sending in a letter of intent tomorrow when the post office opens and rush delivering it.

Hopefully my interviewer will present me well 🙂

I just withdrew my admission because of the previous post I read about Wayne. going to USC.

You're withdrawing because Wayne State has a bad interviewer when the vast majority of reports coming from there have been positive? Sounds good to me, maybe I can have your spot 😉. Congrats on your acceptance at USC, I would rather go there too if not for anything else than being warm year round.

Does anyone know when the next round of post-interview decisions come out? I think it was late Jan but can't remember the exact date. Thanks!

Congrats on USC! That is awesome!!! 👍👍👍👍

I'm not the one with the USC acceptance 😉

i think that person was a troll

nobody decides on not going to a school based on a sdn post.

Who knows, there are some overly emotional people out there who will find really lame reasons to withdraw from a school. If it's true, that's one more spot for either of us 🙂.

Waitlist, I was amazed that I didn't get rejected

Does anyone know if Wayne State rejects people post interview? I was under the impression that they screen so much pre-interview that post-interview rejection didn't happen (just be far down on the wait list) or it was just really rare.

Also, for people who are on the wait list, do we need to call every decision date or do they email again like the first time? I know that applicants used to call last year but I never saw specific instructions in my original "alternate list" email.

For an update letter / letter of interest (regarding any school, not just Wayne):

I graduated last May and am doing a 1-year Master's program at U of M and am thinking about sending a letter of interest / update letter to a lot of my schools. I was wondering if it is necessary for me to send my transcripts also? I have good grades but one grade is just nothing to brag about so I'd rather just send a good letter and focus on why I'm interested in the school and some other things I'm doing.

If I am enrolled in classes and want to send an update letter, am I obligated to also send an updated transcript (including graduate class grades)?

I was waitlisted in November and got another email in December saying that there was no change in my status. I don't think there is any reason to call.

you shouldnt need to send the transcripts unless they ask you too. last year they asked all the accepted students to have their transcripts in before school started.

that said, if your transcript shows a higher gpa than what you had previously, it cant hurt

Anyone getting nervous about the 1/27 date approaching?

I just hope they got to my application next Monday.
