I love early decision.... got my acceptance letter to University of Louisville.😀

Whoa! Congrats! :banana:ED is SO the way to go if you're sold on a school and have a good shot at it. I think most of us would be quite thrilled to be done with the stress of this app. year right now!

Incidentally, my husband is from Louisville, and I'm really hoping for an interview there . . . so it's nice to hear of some Louisville non-trad love! 😀

The rumors I hear in Louisvillle is that the new dean of medical school is very appreciative of non-traditional students. They are even talking about what our "special needs" are and how to address them better.

Good luck in you application process :luck:

Ooh - cool! That's good to know. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for the well wishes. 🙂

That's certainly encouraging! Do you happen to know if they have started interviews full swing yet? I saw a few invites on the pre-allo thread awhile back and nothing since.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Got rejected on Friday from Georgetown. (I did appreciate the letter versus the status update I got from U of Chicago.)

Here's where I stand today.

6 interview invites (3 allo, 3 DO)
- Case Western
- U of Toledo
- Drexel
- PCOM-PA (DO)
- PCOM-GA (DO)
- OUCOOM (DO)

2 rejections
- U of Chicago
- Georgetown

Waiting on:
Probable rejections: OSU, Temple, UPENN, Emory
Decent shot at interview: U of Cincy, Wright State, NEOUCOM

I think a shoddy secondary essay I wrote and I used as a template for several applications did me in. I used the essay for U of Chicago, Georgetown, and OSU. Hopefully OSU looks a little kinder at it.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE ON THE INTERVEW INVITES AND EARLY ACCEPTANCES!

Congrats on your 6 interview invites nontradfogie!! 👍 That's quite an accomplishment at this stage! You need to add those to the non-trad interview thread - more inspiration for the rest of us. 😀

Oh my gosh this makes me so hopeful! 😀 I initially applied to Louisville as a last minute thing, but in researching it for my secondary essays I really got to liking it...I hope the feeling is mutual. Gimme a chance, Louisville!

Just got rejected from UCSF pre-secondary. It was a nice letter.

So far no interviews, but I did get a screened secondary from UCI.

This sucks.🙁

I just got my application verified last night. As soon as I get secondaries they are getting out the same day.

Got my MCAT back on Tuesday - 36S!!!!!!! Definitely helps to compensate for my engineering GPA. 🙂

I have one LOR in, waiting on another and then I will push submit on my application. Then I will twiddle my thumbs until Feb when I hear something.

So far:

3 rejections - EVMS, WVU, Drew/UCLA

Half of my received secondaries are complete, now that I finally have my last LOR in as of this past week.

I am still waiting on AACOMAS to finish processing my application, and starting to worry about it. It's been well over 6 weeks since my last transcript arrived, but they lost one of them for a week... sigh.

I'll be spending the weekend not at work, writing the rest of the secondaries. "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?"

I need good news. 🙁

Its going to be okay! Just finish your secondaries as quickly as you can. But make sure you put a lot of effort into them. I think that the secondary essays really make a difference. I've been working with admissions consultants for over a year and have had really good success with them. Maybe they could help? Go to www.admissionsboards.com
and post your situation. These guys are really good.

Best of luck!

They have been doing one interview day a week, and the admissions committee is now meeting full swing. (sorry for the delayed answer, we have been out of power😎)

Hi, Nontrads.

I was rejected pre-secondary by the Medical College of Virginia/VCU. (I am OOS; this may be a factor, I'm thinking.) I received a screened secondary from OHSU. I think this is good. We'll see.

Good luck, all.

1st rejection. BU.

Don't sweat it - BU seems to be a rejection machine. I got a rejection e-mail exactly two weeks after I was complete there last year. I have a feeling they weed out people with 8's in any section of the MCAT (which (a) sucks and (b) makes me wish they would screen so as not to take our secondary money!) . . . I had an 8 in PS, as did Phoenix. (also rejected from BU), who ended up getting in to Mayo last cycle, so don't feel bad! Your science GPA is freaking awesome, so I'm sure you'll get some love soon. :luck:

Me too; not sure anymore why I applied to VCU. Probably because it's close to my in-laws in Annapolis but Maryland schools are outta my league.
Nothing from OHSU for me yet (I'm now OOS for OHSU). Hoping for MUSC soon....

My secondary was marked as complete this week, hoping to hear about an interview invite...

Hello all! Figured I would post in this thread as well.

AACOMAS completed and verified, I am just receiving my secondaries (3 today) and hope to send them out in the next few days.

I got my MCAT score a couple weeks ago (36M, 12 each section).

Good luck everyone!

Justin

Great job on the MCAT! Good luck with the secondaries. 🙂

Hey! I just got into KU EDP. Yay!

Anyone else have good news to report? Or I can send happiness vibes using more dancing bananas to anyone who doesn't :banana:

Hello Everyone,

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I'm 34 years old and this is my 3rd time applying. I had actually given up thoughts of medical school because of my really low GPA and MCAT scores (when I say low I mean really low, definitely not the 3.7 some people on here consider low). But I just couldn't I have wanted to be a doctor since I was 10 years old, so I'm giving it another try. I have taken the MCAT 3 times the last time was 2 years ago. I refuse to take that test again, I work full time and trying to finish my masters, there is no way I will do better on that thing. Although I have the low GPA and MCAT scores since my last application to medical school 2 years ago I have almost completed a M.S. in Health Sciences with a 4.0 GPA (I'll be done March 2009) and I completed a Post Bacc at LECOM with a 3.0, so I am hoping medical schools will look favorably on these accomplishments instead of dwelling on my past failures which seem to be determined to haunt me forever.

I applied to 6 osteopathic schools, I just submitted my application 9/13 by the time I decided to apply to medical school again the deadlines for MD are less than a month away so I decided to forfeit MD.

I wish you all the best of luck, and I'm praying that it will finally happen for me this year. I'm keeping hope alive Woo Hoooo!!!!👍🙂

Congrats Jenn!!

I'm in limbo land interview-invite-wise, haven't heard anything for almost a month now, but at least no rejections either. I've had two of my interviews, LOVED both, and think they went well, although of course you can never tell for sure until you get that yay or nay. So, finally sent off my UW secondary last week, which was my last one...now it's time to settle down and get my mind onto other things. 😎 Hope everyone else is doing well.

ROCK ON!! :horns: and congrats! I think a non-trad acceptance thread is in order! (I'm not gonna start it though . . . i think that's jinxed me with the interviews!)

dpb425 - welcome and good luck this cycle! FWIW, I've also taken the MCAT 3 times and couldn't get the score I wanted (and know I'm capable of). It's a soul-sucking enterprise, and I admire your resolve not to take it again. A ridiculously HUGE portion of me wants to sign up for a January date to try yet again to vanquish the beast (particularly in case I find myself on a waitlist); but the wiser part feels that would be quite foolish. Here's to hoping the ADCOMS see beyond our numbers!!!

Welcome dp, good luck with your applications! It's a slightly painful process, but worth it (I'm guessing).

I got an invite from BU today! I'm so excited because I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any home turf love. Whee! This was after a month long drought, so for those of you who are hearing crickets, hang in there. :luck:

I also had a month-long drought broken today with an invite to UT Houston. Being a non-trad has been a damned tough row to hoe, but it's looking like it might just pay off.

My school FINALLY sent out my LOR, so my apps are just starting to get complete. I'm now complete at 6 schools, still waiting on 9.

Let the games begin ...

Not new to SDN, read posts often...but haven't posted much myself. However, after receiving my first interview invite (VCU on 10/2, after receiving the "further" app status on 9/2), thought I would join in the celebrations!! 🙂

Thanks to all who have posted vital information, it has all been really helpful!

Did you apply to DO schools in your previous attempts?

Woot! I got my first interview on Monday, at Touro NY. I got the coveted secondary! I feel like Charlie with the last golden ticket. I'm such a dork. But YAY!!! Also - got secondaries from PCOM, Western and Touro CA this week. I'm starting to feel a little better about stuff, but the writing about myself is killing me. Ah, well.

Congratulations!!! :hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy:😀 You are going to rock it!

Just wanted to update my status! I managed to get two interview invites so far and no flat out rejections yet, although I am sure some are comin'! I interview at pnwu and after submitting my touro ny app, I should get a date set up for there as well. I am pleasantly surprised! Hopefully, the trend continues as I turn in more secondaries.

Good luck everyone!

Justin

I'll add my update here as well.

3 x applying! First cycle: No Interviews Second Cycle: Two Wait Lists (Temple and Jefferson) Obviously no acceptances.

This cycle:

4 MD and 3 DO interviews. (Five completed, two to come)

Still no acceptances, but Western and UMDNJ seemed really positive.

Wow. I'm truly inspired by your determination. I'm trying to imagine the party you'll have when you get accepted.

Me too 😉
Thanks for the support. I've been reading your posts too.... GOOD LUCK! YOu have a DO acceptance already yes?

Yup. Ohio University. It sure takes a load off me to know that regardless, next year I'll be a medical student somewhere.

I posted a bit here last year...just wanted to reintroduce myself. I'm 32 now (just had a birthday). This is my second year applying.

Last time I got three interviews, and three waitlists, but none panned out. I think I really got hurt by late completions last time (amcas lost one of my transcripts delaying me for 6 weeks). This year, as soon as amcas let me, I was reapplying asap so that's not going to happen again 😀

This year I've been offered nine interviews and I've finished five of them. Only had one rejection so far (BU). I think the interviews have gone pretty well so far but as it's been said above, you never really know until you get the letter/phone call. I'm very nervous about this Wednesday. I'm hoping, like fogie, to get some good news so I can stop worrying about whether or not I'll get in this year.

fingers crossed for all of us!

Is this the correct place to bitch that one of my LOR's is STILL not in? Bleah. 🙁 Not due till November 1, but still.

Had an interview at SUNY buffalo today.

Found out I got accepted to Case Western and NJ Medical College. Go democracy!

I'm going to start a Non-Trad Applicants LACK of Progress Thread, so I can post on it.
