Congratulations to those of you who have receieved an interview. Here goes again, and this year I have not even received a single interview. 3.3 GPA, 20 TS, and AA 19 (Second DAT) , I have done summer enrichment program and I have also done research + 1yr worked as a dental assistant. Personal statement and everything looks good, and I see a lot of people with my Stats receiving an interview. I'm losing hope, please give me some positive feedback.....Thanks

welcome to club buddy! 👍

dude...did they email you or send a letter? Also, have you already been given interviews at the other schools? I've been to Baylor and I'm about to go to SA but whats up with H-town not letting me know something?

The waiting is brutal... I'm wondering if the schools are going slower or if the application pool exploded this year:scared:

geez, im starting to get nervous about not hearing from Houston... they only have three weeks left to notify for pre-dec 1st interviews. (If you assume they give you a few weeks notice).

Baylor and San An got back to me so fast 😕

I hope you hear from Houston soon, however I think that having 2 interviews should feel great. Please do not forget that there are some people on this forum that have not heard from ANY schools yet. Please try to be considerate. Good luck!

Did any of you guys receive an invite letter SOON after taking your DATs (like within a couple of weeks)? or did any of you guys receive an invite from just faxing your scores before tmdsas sent them out? Although it's been a little over 3 weeks since I have taken my DATs, I haven't heard from any schools yet and it's killing me. Your replies may/may not calm me down....thanx! 😀

yea they sent me an email. I've heard houston is generally slower than other two schools, but i guess the hurricane made them even slower...I hope you hear from them soon!!!!

see u there!🙂 oh and drock-- Houston via email.. they were the slowest of the 3 for me

see you there!🙂

i have pretty good stats and i still haven't heard from BAYLOR or UTDB... 🙁

We are only in October. There is no need to worry. Don't forget Houston lost at least 1 or 2 weeks of interviews due to Ike. My best advice for the worrisome- GET OFF SDN!!! This forum will drive you crazy! I finally convinced one of my co-workers who is applying to med school to take a break from SDN because it only fed his anxiety on not hearing from this or that school yet. Just my opinion. Also, stats are not everything. Good letters of recommendation and an excellent personal statement also go a long way.

Speaking of getting our minds off school, I need to know if I am the only person who has TX beating OU this weekend? 34-31 is my prediction. PLZ discuss

OU already demolished my Frogs. (Although we give them a lot of help!!! 😡) So I am torn-- Do I want OU to win to make TCU look better or do I want TX to punish them?

I think I will go with my second choice! :meanie:

Good luck again with interviews everyone. I try to forget I even applied for dental schools, so I tend to stay off SDN. If you have any questions, send me a message.

just bought my ticket today, i'll be in dallas for the sooner beating..

Nice, that's going to be fun. I luckily got saturday off work so I'll be watching it from my couch with a bunch of junk food in front of me!

I'm a longhorns fan but am also a Cubs fan, a Mavs fan, and a Cowboys fan. Anyone see the trend there?

Did SA accept your faxed scores? They told me that they couldn't accept anything but the official scores 🙁

The other two accepted my unofficial scores for the purpose of app review, but I still haven't heard anything (it's been two weeks). Also, TMDSAS still hasn't updated my app. In fact, they told me it would take longer than usual to update because they were trying to process all new app submissions first. Do they have your scores up yet?

This whole process is starting to wear on me, talk about disheartening. I'm starting to consider my backup plans for the coming year(s)...

I called SA and they told me that they received my scores and that my application was under review. I sent it to the other 2 schools too (3 weeks ago) and I have yet to hear from them either. I want to call the schools to see where I stand but I think I'm going to wait 1 more week before I do.

btw...when i e-mailed tmdsas, they wrote the same thing. I was getting worried b/c it couldn't possibly take more than 3 weeks to send out my scores, especially when they sent my scores within 10 days last year. i discovered that there was a different phone # written in the email from that on the tmdsas website. called them up, they actually answered (instead of leaving a voicemail saying they won't take calls), told them about my dilemma and she said that they had them and would send them out immediately. Turns out my scores were just sitting there for a week and a half after they received it....pissed me off! ...so call and make sure!

TX is winner without doubt with 5+ points, I am working Sat during the game (my job is related to the game!), same time studying for my Biochem and cell biology exam next week, no time for watching the game.

Oh that sucks, I've got a cell phys test next week that I should probably study for. I think I'll do it before the game. Hey danny, if you don't mind me asking, what school do you go to? You're in the dallas area right?

sure buddy, UTDallas.

Cool, I was just wondering if we went to the same school but nope, I go to UTA. Sometimes I wonder if UTD would have been better. It seems like Baylor takes a few more from UTD than UTA.

Baylor Cares about upper level classes more than anything when there is decent DAT(19+). not matter which school you go!

True, which leads me to a question. I'm already looking ahead to next year's application cycle and wanted to ask what people thought of this course list for upper levels.

Biochem 1 & 2
Cell physiology
Human anatomy or comparative vertebrae anatomy
Microbiology
Genetics
Plant science
Zoology

That what it looks like I'll graduate with. Any thoughts? Not enough?

From BCD's website--

  • Three semester hours of Biochemistry 👍
  • Fourteen semester hours of Biology -- 12 hours of lecture and 2 hours of formal laboratory. 👍
What elective courses are suggested?
Physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Neuroscience, Histology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Embryology are suggested to strengthen the student's science background.

So I think you should be OK. Although I hear taking histology is very beneficial.

This is also from BCD's website--

  • give careful attention to details in filing the application - apply early
  • observation in a general practice dental office is required.

Stats and coursework are very important, but do not forget to follow up on other requirements as well.

Furthermore, this sentence caught my eye in a post on BCD's website regarding D1s starting classes--

"There are business, chemistry and social science majors — among others — in the group as well, although these students have completed a significant number of upper division biology courses before entering dental school."

Obviously, they want to see a lot of upper-level biology. No big surprise there! So try to do as many upper-levels as you can. Although make sure not to pick quantity over quality. I got grilled over a B (yes, a B) in Biochem in my interview.

Wow you got grilled over a B in biochem. I'll be happy with a B in that one, I guess I need to push even harder. Yeah I saw that on Baylor's website. I don't think my school offers neuroscience or histology unfortunately.

Wow, I got a B in the first biochem and they didn't say anything about it during my interview at Baylor. They value shadowing quite a bit I think and they have pushed histology a lot when I've heard them make presentations. I took it and hopefully it will help in the future.

Baylor is crazy about the upper level science. I have 44 hrs of upper level chem and bio right now and in my interview they start telling me "Well...you haven't taken histology. Maybe you should take that and also try to take a physiology course." I was like OK...

just venting!!
I'm freaking out because I had no idea that applying early was actually important. This is my first time around applying.
I have a 3.61 overall gpa and a 3.53 science gpa. I finished college in 3 years and I have done 500+ hours of shadowing. I also went on a dental mission trip to Romania, where I assisted. Now I'm just worrying about the DAT, which I will be taking for the first time in a week...and then it will take another 3 to 4 weeks for the schools to get them. I hope it is not too late.

Do they start to review your application with the unofficial faxed scores?

Assuming you do well on the DAT, you sound like a competitive applicant. However, it's pretty late for the Texas schools I think, especially if you're DAT scores won't be in for a month or so.

i hope you're not talking about Texas schools, because the dealine for texas schools was October 1st..

I'm getting pretty worried as well. I haven't received any interviews yet.
I sent my app in 6/26/08 but didn't have the DAT results in till 8/7/2008. Then my LOR were process around the mid August.

I have a 3.21 gpa in biomedical engineering from UT.

Do you think it is worth calling the admin offices to see what is going on?
I'm sort of getting frustrated and depressed not to have received any as of yet.

Not saying you can't get some interviews -- but to my knowledge, the Texas schools will not review your application without official DAT scores, so a faxed a copy won't even work. You can always call and ask though.

If this is the case, you are going to be hard pressed to get some interviews. Baylor is always pretty darn close to filling their entire class with December 1st acceptances. San Antonio usually complete interviews at the end of January and then forms an alternate list, and the class is usually filled in March. I am not sure about Houston. Your stats seem pretty good. If it doesn't work out this year -- you must know that for next year, applying early is absolutely key, no matter what your stats are. Hopefully something will work out. Good luck on your DAT.

I applied early June but the schools told me they were waiting for my score (DAT in early September). I faxed my scores to all the schools and Baylor immediately sent out an interview invite the next day. My SA invite came soon after and the Houston invite received this week. Perhaps you should call the schools and ask, Baylor's secretary- Janet Pledger- is extremely helpful. She told me what I lacked and what I needed to improve to get an interview this cycle and I did it. I think they remember if they spoke to you and keep a record of it so be nice!

"Anyone can be a dentist (or Vice President), you just have to really want it." On a serious note, try do everything they suggest and don't give up!

Thanks, that really put me in a better mood to hear that. Do they give you a sheet when you take the test with your score on it? Is that what you faxed?
And when you faxed them your scores did you call them first to tell them you were?

I was told by astaff there that the Dean of Admission is out town this month (Oct) and interviews will resume in November. Anybody heard this too?

I heard the same thing. I think the last round of interviews for October at Baylor was this past Wednesday, the 8th. I'm not sure about the whole resuming in November thing.

Yes they give you a printed sheet of paper with your scores on it. You should call them to ask for their fax number and inform them that you will be sending your scores.

Yes, Dr. Miller is out of the country and I don't think will be back this month.

Well I'm sure she isn't the only voice in admission but she is the Director of Admissions and I know she interviews every candidate.

Wow, i guess Baylor will have less dec.1 offers than other schools

Baylor fills up %95+ of its seats by December first. maybe they want to change it, and give more chance for post December. 😎
